After spending a few hours in a topic discussing the Twilight books, I've just come to realize how much i truly appreciate Anne Rice.

*Note: this message is not to Flame or Make Fun Of those who love Twilight

I'm just saying that after hanging out with a bunch of people that are overly obsessed with that series makes me realize that reading Rice's books doesnt make the people near you (during school, at a library, etc) go into spasms about how great the books are. We read the books, we love the books, and we want others to enjoy the books...so why get completely obsessed?
Yes there are movies for a few of the novels and yes they are good but we fans of Rice don't freak out for months leading up to the premiere (and if we do...then we keep it to ourselves or share it with those that care heh heh)
^^

because we are more mature...I don't mean that in a mean way. I just mean that it takes a certain level of skill to read a book like the chronicles

I have a blockmate who read the entire twilight series and she wanted me to talk about Rice's vampires...at first I did not want to say anything but then I too am curious about the vampires of Meyer...so I had to tell her the summary of the first three novels as good as I could...somehow I made the novels interesting to her ears...she also admitted to me that she tried to read interview but the first few pages bored her to sleep but now she's borrowing my books...

I am just happy that I can influence a Meyer fan to read Rice's books...

Because we are more mature and intelligent. Twilight causes me pain and I must go back to the VC to cleanse my brain. Edward makes me think of a wannabe Armand. -_-

I think most of the difference comes from who the intended audiences of both series are. meyers books are directed at pre-teen girls (what with the "regular girl is so regular that we all love her" and writing it in first person so that the girls can out the female role and easily place themselves in) whereas Rice's books weren't designed for that market. I'm not saying Rice doesn't have younger fans (and I remember starting to read her books when I was in 8th grade) but I don't think Rice had that audience in mind when writing her books (and Meyers clearly did).

Also, I think Rice fans are slightly more snobby about our "fandom" than the Meyers fans. We don't stalk the woman, the acters who play her vamps in movies, or cry about it when someone doesn't like the books, but we do get very indignant when a movie gets it wrong or when we see someone compare the work of Rice to that of Meyers. I guess we just act out in different ways.

For example, my friends and I (who all read the books) went to see QoTD when it came out in theaters. We could BARELY contain our anger to see that they got so many things so wrong. By the time we all got back outside the theater we had a 20 minute vent session on how awful that was...which is kind of dumb and fantarded. As I said, we show our fandom in other ways than the meyers lot. lol
