SUMMARY:
In the world of Shangri-la, humans and demons live together peacefully until a mysterious "minus wave" strikes the land, driving nearly all of the demons mad and turning them violent against humanity. Now, one buddhist priest, Genjyo Sanzo, is instructed to travel west to India where the minus wave originated to stop Gyokumen Koshu from ressurecting the sealed demon lord Gyumaoh. And he's bringing his friends along.
Aw, who'm I kiddin'? Sanzo's stuck traveling west with two demons he can't stand and a monkey he couldn't get rid of with a pry bar or a really big meat bun. The party is attacked by assasins, picked on by small children (mostly one by the name of Lirin), their dragon-Jeep keeps running out of gas, can't avoid each and every detour they come across, are attacked by more assassins, are buried, run out of cigarettes, booze or food, in that order. Did I mention the assasins?
THE CAST OF MAIN CHARACTERS:
Genjyo Sanzo
"I'll kill you!"
Buddhist priest who generally doesn't follow ANY of the buddhist teachings. He drinks, smokes, kills and threatens the life of his companions on a daily basis. Though once in a while he WILL prove that he's a Sanzo by performing priestly acts, he normally keeps a low profile and hates being recognized by villagers.
Son Goku
"Eww! Gross! She's eating her friends!"
A boy that was imprisoned under a mountain and set free by Sanzo. He appears to be approximately 18 (not that he acts it) but is truely over 500. He is constantly hungry, which is sometimes attributed to his not eating for over 500 years, loves to fight and is the strongest member of the group, though at the same time he's also the most innocent.
Cho Hakkai
"We couldn't have done it better if we'd done it ourselves and believe me, we wanted to!!"
His human name was Cho Gouno but after one night his human life was destroyed and he was reborn a demon. With his new name came the personality of a laid-back, unbelievably lucky, always happy guy.
Sha Gojyo
"I only have two weaknesses; cigarettes and tart and I'm picky about both of them!"
Professional gambler playboy is the easiest way to summarize Gojyo. The first thing after food an lodgings that Gojyo will acquire is a lady to spend the evening with. That doesn't make him entirely shallow as he's taken up the role of older brother to Goku (though they make very LOUD brothers).
Kougaji
"So, you're the Sanzo party?"
Son of the demon Gyumaoh and leader of Gyokumen Koshu's army and though he's the primary leader of the assasination attempts on the Sanzo party he has a kill eachother/help eachother relationship with them. He has high morals and is very good to the people who work under him (and his half-sister that he adores) and is only working with Gyokumen because she has promised to unseal his mother along with Gyumaoh.
Lirin
"Attack from all sides?! I can't believe it! Spot! Fluffy! Porky!"
The "Son Goku" member of Kougaji's group and his half-sister. She's impulsive and always trying to destroy the Sanzo party to make her brother happy, even though she treats it like a game. She's unreasonably strong and obessed with food just like Goku and she probably spends more time in the company of Sanzo and crew than any other of Kougaji's people, even going so far as to call Sanzo "Baldy."
