Well done on your first steps, yep 1kg (2.2lbs) sounds about right. You should be aiming to lose around 2lbs a week if you want to keep the weight loss. Anymore than that are your quite likely to be losing weight too fast and be more susceptible to putting it back on. You might notice though if you are dieting, that in your first 2 weeks if you lose more than 2lbs a week it will mostly be water so dont worry. After that though you should try to aim 1-2 lbs a week.

It shouldnt, if your dieting properly the 1kg lost should be water/fat weight. If you eat enough protein in your diet you should prevent any muscle mass from wasting. What causes the 'loose' skin is individuals who have little or no muscle mass but still some fat.

Also it all comes down to a persons individual choice but its always healthy for females to have around 20% bodyfat, 14% should be the VERY lowest. Any lower and then problems with menustration/periods etc will occur. But the healthiest for average females is 20%. Female athletes are usually the only people who have a lower bodyfat percentage

- http://lowcarbdiets.about.com/library/blbodyfatcharts.htm

You can keep track with your bodyfat with one of these and the forumla for estimating your bodyfat can be done here with the calipers.

Even making basic changes to your diet will help you lose weight:
- Cut out as much refined or sugary foods as possible & junk food (not saying you cant have any but moderate your intake)
- Eat 6 smaller meals throughout the day instead of 3 big ones, this will keep your metabolism ticking making you burn more energy and you will also feel less hungry and more energised.
- Drink more water
- Eat more protein and healthy fats (healthy fat sources include almonds, peanuts (raw), 100% peanut butter, fish)
- Carbohydrates should be mostly from sources like vegetables (choose ones you like), brown rice, porridge (you can add honey & yoghurt to make it tasty) and try to restict intake of 'white foods' like white bread, white pasta, white rice etc.
- Although a change in diet can promote weight loss, if you exercise is will speed up the process and once you burn off your weight, if you continue exercising its much easier to eat the treats you like.
- For the exercise: Starting off for a while do 30 minutes of cardio 3 times a week at 70% of your maximum heart rate (yours should be 140 beats per minute, if your in a gym the machines should tell you your heart rate). Do some resistance exercises also than can be done at home like push-ups, sit-ups, planks, mountain climbers etc.

If you change your diet and do 30 minutes of cardio 3 times a week you should lose weight.

(apologies for the long post smile , ask me if you dont understand anything)

thank u =]
So if i keep loosing 1kg a week...its ok, and its even better if i do crunches and strength exercises, because it forms more muscle, so then i wont get loose skin..?
sorry i just keep researching all this and so many sites give me different answers, and i get so scared thinking about loose skin =[

As i said, if you keep weight loss to around 1-2lbs a week and keep protein intake high you shouldnt have a problem with loose skin. Here is what i got from the internet regarding loose skin and its exactly how i thought it would be:

" In my opinion, the droopy appearance of folds of skin is most probably caused by crash diets that sacrifice large amounts of supporting muscle, or lean body mass. "

Source: http://www.bodyfatguide.com/LooseSkin.htm

The most effective way of dieting and keeping weight loss is smart dieting, all these crash and fad diets on living just a few hundred calories or just drinking water is just ridiculous and i completely agree with what the guy says in the website " Crash diets or diets just fasting on water can cause rapid muscle loss, even up to 40-50% ".

If you eat healthy and right while doing exercise (it says in your profile you like sports and working out smile ) you will lose weight. It will take a bit longer than crash dieting but at least you will come out in the end feeling and looking better.

Yep you can still eat after 6. But what people 'say' is that you should restrict your carbohydrate intake after this time, i agree and disagree with it. I disagree because they say that your metabolism slows down before you sleep, which is load of bull. Your metabolism stays the same all hours of the day until you physically do fall asleep (and then your metabolism only drops by around 10%).

But what i agree with is that you do keep carbohydrate intake to a minimum because you are less likely to use those carbohydrates in the evening (so whats the point in eating them?). Keep your carb intake to vegetables or pulses (Peas, beans and lentils) after around 6 or 7pm but still eat protein and healthy fat sources. Again im not saying that you cant eat carbs after this time but if your trying to lose weight then i recommend it while during your weight loss period.

As i say to people who try to lose weight: Being on a specific diet to lose weight is not for life, its just a brief period to get where you want and when you have achieved said goal you can then with exercise and sensible eating, continue to eat your favourite foods.
