Dreams

I find this to be a very interesting subject. I have a lot of weird dreams, and they only make sense when I read up about what I've experienced in the book I have (or now online as well as I searched for an online dream dictionary so I don't have to type a lot of things up).

I used to dream a lot about being naked or partially naked in front of people whilst I'm out. There are several meanings to that - Naked Dreams. My naked dreams have been in the following context...

Dream Moods
Many times, when you realize that you are naked in your dream, no one else seems to notice. Everyone else in the dream is going about their business without giving a second look at your nakedness. This implies that your fears are unfounded; no one will notice except you. You may be magnifying the situation and making an issue of nothing. On the other hand, such dreams may mean your desire (or failure) to get noticed.

That's VERY true for me.

However, recently, I had a different kind of dream. Dreams have a lot to do with the way we feel about things, and recently a friend of mine betrayed my trust (and a lot of other friends and people I know have done this to me as well in the past). She also made me worry a great deal because she delayed so long in coming to see me. I was afraid of losing the friendship because of what she's like, and it made me so frustrated that it really brought back memories I don't want to remember and because of the past, the fact that I feel I'm a complete failure at so many things, and that friends keep betraying me, I'm embarrassed to say but I was on the brink of a complete breakdown for about three weeks.

Then, a few days before this friend actually came round to clear the matter up I had a strange dream (in truth the incident that started it off was incredibly minor, but this friend is...rather self-opinionated and believes that I and everyone else should live life and deal with problems in the exact same way she does).

I'll give a quick explanation of what happened...

I was diving from a high board into an open-aired pool right next to cliffs that overlooked the ocean. After the second dive, a hurricane started, and I couldn't do my third dive. There were spectators around, including family. Everyone dispersed of course, but me and a few others couldn't get away or shelter like most of the others did. We took shelter in the cliffside, moving along the coast a bit at a time. Then, tsunamis came. In the dream it seemed like roughly every 15-20 minutes a wave would rise up and hit us, so we all sheltered as best we could. Ok, there's a word I need to elaborate on - shelter. During that time, I found myself sheltering someone. I didn't know WHO it was. I thought it was a friend but I didn't know who and it was female. She was unconscious (don't know what happened, I was just carrying her (head on my left arm, legs draped over my right) and I was holding her close. Then, after quite some time I woke up.

Here's the analysis I found (same thing as in my book but worded differently). I'll post the link and then the relevant pieces into this message.

Dream Moods
DIVING - http://www.dreammoods.com/dreamdictionary/d2.htm

Relevant Piece
To dream that you are diving into clear water, signifies an end to an embarrassing situation. Although you may experience some temporary setbacks, things will surely look up. Additionally, this dream may mean that you are trying to get to the bottom of a current situation and the root of your problems or feelings. It may also refer exploration of your unconscious.

Dream Moods
WATER - http://www.dreammoods.com/dreamdictionary/w2.htm

Relevant Piece
To see water in your dream, symbolizes your unconscious and your emotional state of mind. Water is the living essence of the psyche and the flow of life energy. It is also symbolic of spirituality, knowledge, healing and refreshment. To dream that water is boiling, suggests that you are expressing some emotional turmoil. It also may mean that feelings from your unconscious are surfacing and ready to be acknowledged.

To see calm, clear water in your dream, signifies that you are in tune with your spirituality. It denotes serenity, peace of mind, and rejuvenation.

WAVES - To dream that you are caught in a tidal wave, signifies the strength of your emotions, perhaps accompanied by tears that you are holding back in your waking life.

Dream Moods
HURRICANE - http://www.dreammoods.com/dreamdictionary/h2.htm

To see a hurricane in your dream, indicates sudden and/or unexpected changes occurring in your life. You may be experiencing some destructive and powerful emotions.

To dream that you are swept up the hurricane, suggests that both your mental and emotional forces are building up inside and making themselves known. You may be literally consumed by your emotions.

Dream Moods
RESCUE - http://www.dreammoods.com/dreamdictionary/r2.htm

To dream that you are being rescued or rescue others, represents an aspect of yourself that has been neglected or ignored. You are trying to find a way to express this neglected part of yourself.

In particular, to dream that you rescue someone from drowning (?), indicates that you have successfully acknowledged certain emotions and characteristics that is symbolized by the drowning victim.

SHELTER - http://www.dreammoods.com/dreamdictionary/s2.htm

To see or dream that you are at a shelter, represents the difficulties and sense of helplessness that you are going through. You are seeking for some sort of security Alternatively, it suggests your fear of things that are different from you.

(My book also says that to shelter someone means you are sheltering a part or parts of yourself).

So, that's an indication of what my dream meant. It uncovered a lot of truth for me actually.

Dreams are quite an interesting topic, I didn't know there were so many meanings for phnomenon in dreams. Myself I've actually-quite recently- experienced some of the things you were experiencing in your dreams. Though even more recently, I havn't been remembereing my dreams at all, would you happen to know anything about what that might mean?

For the past few years I have had this strange dream which goes like this:

I am in my room sleeping, then all of a sudden I wake up and run downstairs. 3 witches come into my house and I hide under the stairs (we have like an opening there) and they kill all my family and then leave. But they leave me.

I always had this deam while I was sleeping on my back, so I never could when I was a child.

Now I have a different one. I am sleeping again and my whole body goes numb like pins and needles and I can't move. Thing is my dog always wakes me up in that kinda thing.

Weird.

It's actually rarer to remember dreams I believe. Apparently we dream every night, but most of the time we don't remember. I'm not exactly sure why.

This can be our first module of investigation.

Hmm interesting... now that I think about it I seem to remember something about the subconcious mind completing tasks without your concious knowlege. For example:

If you held your hands an equal distance apart, then imagined-and pictured- a force in between them, pulling them closer, your hands would most likely start moving towards each other. If you imagine this force getting stronger, they should move faster.

That was actually something that my friend showed me last year as part of a project about the subconcious. What's happening is your subconcious mind trying to complete the mentle picture of your hands being drawn together by the force in between them.

So I think possibly dreams may be your subconcious mind working through the situations and possibilities you may have imagined recently. Though in the case of dreams like being hit by hurricanes, it may just be overexagerating it. (sp?)subconcious

Regarding the last part of your post with the idea of hurricanes etc...
My first post highlights that it's not really a worry. We hear about hurricanes on the east coast of the US quite a bit, but it doesn't play on my mind in that way. I've been on the sea recently, but I haven't seen anything about tidal waves, and diving of an Olympic fashion. My dreams tend to have meaning in them a lot of the time, and as I described in that post, it fits my current situation and state of mind perfectly.

Mel's right! It seems most dreams are not very memorable or we just choose to ignore them. Do we do that consciously, or unconsciously?

BTW, I know this isn't the youtube thread but this video is about a cool song from the 80's related to dreams. It's called: "These Dreams".

I've had some odd dreams in my day but, why is it that when we dream, we don't seem to think that what we are dreaming is the silliest or stupidest thing ever? I mean, most of the times it seems like they make perfect sense while we are in the dream but when we wake up, it's another story. You know?

If we did it consciously, then we'd know we'd done it.

I suppose yer right. Still, haven't you ever wanted to take control of yer actions in a dream? I ask cuz on some dreams, it seems as though we are the victim of some prankster or whatever. Rarely, I've wished I could have been in charge of the dream instead of just being a sort of puppet in it. You know what I mean? The occasions in which I've been allowed to be in control of a dream are even rarer and, I think I've been able to sort of wake up while still in the dream. Has anyone ever experienced that!?

I was going to make a new thread and then I remembered I had this one in the Portal (which I'm closing).

Let's further our discussions on dreams here.

Cool! But you didn't say if you've ever had the chance to control what happens in yer dreams. I bet it's cuz you don't remember, right?

Anyway, I just had a dream last night that I was in a Mario bros game. I think I was either controlling Mario or I was Mario, I don't know. The point is that it was pretty cool being able to throw fireballs at the little brown mushrooms (classic Mario enemies) and piranha plants. Can't remember much else though...

Say Mel, if we do have one of our dreams posted somewhere else, could we post a link to it here?

Post a link or quote it. Whatever. Quoting things like that might look better, but it's up to you.

I have occasionally had control over dreams. When something happens and I want it to happen a different way, my mind will keep going over the same scene until I get it right like directors and actors do when filming.

I also have dreams where I am trying to do something and struggle endlessly throughout the dream to ensure I accomplish that task.

I shall quote it then!

Hypno on Bebo
I was in some sort of concentration camp and most of the people I was with were women. There was another guy around but he was better looking than me. Most of the women there weren't very good looking but, there was one who looked particularly beautiful. Just my luck though, she had fallen for the good looking guy there but, we had become friends so I didn't mind. All of a sudden, we heard some alarms and we saw most of the prisoners running towards the exit as it was wide open. The exit lead into some kind of maze like streets. I held the door open for both of my good looking friends. I remember her tripping over and a guard grabbing a hold of her. I tried to signal her boyfriend but he was already too far away and couldn't even see we were in trouble (some BF, huh?). I had to do something and I got her free but, they got me instead. As she was running away, her face seemed sad but she didn't stop like I told her. After that, I remember opening my eyes in some strange place that had some odd cabins. I tried to go around them and they were surrounded by some weird wire fence and at the other side of it, you could see the edge of a ravine surrounding the supposed village. After a while of exploring the place, I began to see people coming out of the cabins. Most of them were like hybrids cuz one looked like a centaur, another like a fawn and, well, you get the picture. After talking to them they seemed happy that I couldn't remember much (it was as if I had amnesia) and, after one of them asked me the name of my true love, I said something about "Natalia". But I only said it after trying really hard to remember. After that they seems sad that I could remember it and, I think I woke up sometime after that.
Talk about an oddball dream, huh?

Let me know what you all think about this dream, ok?

Hmm, that sounds good Mel! I'm glad yer dreams work like that. Granted it can't be all of them but at least some do, right?

Huh? Well, I guess most dreams tend to be forgettable, right? I just don't get why I haven't gotten any comments on my dream yet... rolleyes
