Hey everyone. Ok so I wanted to get everyone's thoughts down here about horses talking. Do you think that horses understand us when we speak to us? Do you think that they talk to other horses just like we talk with other people?

In my opinion I think horses could understand us. When a horse's ear flickers towards you and the other one is in the driection your going, It means that the horse has your full attention. When you give them a command let's say "Walk on" and they start walking, the horse DOES understand you. That's my opinion. Also I do think other horses could coomiuacte with each other. Everytime one horse nickers at the stable I think there saying "Hello there!" XD

Hi!
I also believe that they can understand us! They know what and how we feel, and sometimes they answer us!
I can`t remember where it is from, but I know a slogan that goes like this: If you look a horse in the eye, it will look back into your soul! Or something like that whee
I don`t think that they comunicate like us among them, but they talk with their body language! If you inderstand that body language you can "talk" back! heart

Personally I think Horses can understand humans.

I think horses understand our words to some extent. Even if they don't understand everything we say, they always listen. I've sat and watched horses out in the pasture for many hours, and their body language is fascinating. They're not nearly as vocal as humans, but they have complex pecking orders throughout the herd and communicate with the most subtle (or loud and clear) gestures. I've started "speaking" to my horses the same way other horses do. You'd be amazed at how they respond. I don't think horses think in words, though. They think of things more as ideas and emotions, and even opinions. They're also extremely sensitive to our emotions and they see us as individuals. I think they know a lot more than most people give them credit for. 3nodding

I love the saying, "A good rider can hear his horse speak. A great rider can hear his horse whisper. But a bad rider won't hear his horse even if it screams at him."

That's exactly right. wink

this saying is completely true.
as human we can't understand fully their body language, but if we really try, then we still can guess what they're trying to tell us. and then know how they feel.
that is probably the better part of being a rider ^^, always trying to understand each other to have a great relationship and have a true friendship. biggrin

I believe they do too as well, everytime I talk to my horses, they look at me and lean their faces against me like they agree with whatever I say. 4laugh

every horse is different lol, but I do believe that horses can understand our emotions like if ur feeling scared they will react in certain ways whether the horse is a kind and trustworthy or green and stubborn. Horses are mysterious creatures, there instinct is to run if they think they are in danger and they share this with the herd by body language, this is what I think, its just my opinion

When I say something to my horses they move their ears like they're really interested in what I say to them along with making random sounds until their eyes go straight up.

I know for a fact they can understand us because of experience.
My horse wouldn't come visit me at the gate, she wouldn't even look at me,
so I told her she was a piece of poo. Mind you there was a few colorful words, anyway she turned around glanced at me, layed her ears back and walk over the hill to the other end of the pasture. She was so mad she wouldn't come in to eat. So I apologized and everything was fine the next day. Although I do believe they go more by body language than what we say.
