Shaman Class
The Shaman has a respected and powerful position within the Lycan culture. They are Lycans who have gained or obtained knowledge and powers that are not common within the Lycan species. There are three known types of Shamen; the Sageman, Wiseman, and Loreman. Though different, all Shamen share one universal trait. Lycans are able to detect a unearthly scent about a Shaman. This scent defys description and it is unmistakeable in it's marking of a Shaman. It is believed that the scent grows stronger as the Lycan grows more powerful.
It is not a common practice for a Shaman to take a mate, or to be taken as a mate. The reason for this is the Lycan's belief that no Lycan male is 'worthy' to claim a shaman female. Nor is any female worthy of being claimed by a male Shaman as his mate. Rather, Shamen are given the right to take any male or female they wish when they desire temporary companionship or for the purpose of creating their own offspring.
Male Shamen are not considered responsible for the cubs they father and it is not expected of them to take care of the cub. In fact, a male Shaman does not have to teach his Song of Decendacy to a male cub unless he deems the youngster worthy of claiming heritage to them. Female Shamen often are more picky about their cubs they birth. It is not unheard of for a female Shamen to kill a cub within a few weeks if they find it unworthy of their bloodline. When a female deems a cub to be worthy of her line, it is her choice as to wehther she places the cub in the care of another Lycan, not always the fathering Lycan either, or if she takes the cub with her.
Shamen are granted immunity to the territory laws in the sense they may roam freely from Pack to Pack. They do not need the permission of the Family Head to enter into their village or take up residence upon a Lycans land. Yet, reguardless of the power a Shaman is awarded, he or she must always abide by the rule of the Pack Head. It is only the Pack Head that has the power to contest the will of a Shaman. Should the Head of a pack choose, he or she may exhile a Shaman from their territory. So while a Shaman does not need to ask permission to enter a village, if they should offend the Family Head they must leave if it is the Heads decree.

:Loreman:
The Loreman is the most 'common' sort of Shaman. Loremen are Lycans that have gained herbal knowledge through apprentiship to another Loreman. Loremen are given the knowledge of the mystical properties of plants. They understand what certain plants offer in the way of potions, salves, and small token charms. The knowledge of Loremen varies from Shaman to Shaman. The reason for this is due to the jealouse nature Loremen hoard their knowledge, passing on what they know and have learned only to the one they have choosen to take as their apprentice. Any Lycan has the potential to become a Loreman. There is no special requirement in order to begin practicing the Loremans trade. However, due to the jealouse nature mentioned before, Loremen do not openly share their knowledge with other Lycans commonly.
All Lycan Loremen have a Tothi, or Knowledge Tome, in which all the knowledge of the Loreman chain is recorded. Tothi's are passed from Loreman to apprentice upon the Loremans death. It is the Loreman's passing away that marks the apprentices graduation to Loreman him or herself. It is not uncommon for a Lycan to remain at the status of Apprentice for decades after they have learned all that their teacher has to share with them. Apprentices loyally remain at the side of their Loreman teacher until his or her death. Tothi's are written in a secret language that is unique to each Loreman chain. This language is taught to the choosen apprentice so that they will be the only other one who can make use of the Tothi when the Loreman dies.
Loremen commonly choose a single Pack and make their home with them. They do not often roam from the territory of their adopted pack save when the Loreman feels the need to find a apprentice. The presence of a Loreman in a pack often hearlds good fortune in the eyes of the Pack. As Loremen have cures for illnesses and strange knowledge about the weather or the movement of animal herds.

:Wiseman:
A Wiseman calls upon the nature spirits to achive some sort of goal. Pacts are formed with spirits as sort of promises or contracts to be fulfilled immediatly or at a later date. In order to summon a spirit, the Wiseman must obtain certain special items that the type of spirit they are attempting to contact favors. They place the item on a Offering Alter, and wait for a spirit to manifest that is interested in hearing the Wiseman's Pact. A Wiseman does not have to accept the first spirit that arrives to accept his or her offering. He may respectfully turn the spirit away in the hopes of attracting a different or more powerful spirit. It is always key for the Wiseman to remain respectful of the Spirit, as a offended spirit will not return at a later date if another offering is made. In extreme cases offended Spirits have assulted or cursed a cocky Wiseman.
If a spirit manifests to recieve the offering, and the Wiseman is satisfied with the one that has come, he will allow the spirit to claim the offering as it's own. This does not seal a pact, but rather it opens up negotiations between the Wiseman and the Spirit. The spirit hears out what the Wiseman desires of it, then it names a price for it's agreement of the service. If the Wiseman agree's with the Spirits demand, he produces a Pact Token for the Spirit to touch. By touching the pact token, the spirit leaves a faint trace of it's individual essence upon the token. When the Wiseman wishs to summon the spirit to fulfill it's part of the agreement he needs only touch the token and call out the spirits nature essence. Most Wisemen choose a personal specific item to act as pact tokens. Such as feathers, beads, stones, coins, slips of parchment, or leaves.
A Wiseman may collect pact tokens and store them up for later use rather then using them all immediatly. Once a pact token is made, the spirit will answer the call reguardless of the passage of years. If a Wiseman passes down a pact token feather from himself to a favored son, the spirit will answer the call of the son should he ever decide to use the token.
The Spirits price must be paid before it will answer the call of a token. If a Wiseman attempts to call a spirit before he has completed the task or fulfilled the price of the spirit, it will arrive at the call, but refuse to fulfill the Wiseman's wish. Rather the contract becomes null by the Wisemans premature use and the spirit may refuse to re-negotiate a new pact.
It should be noted, that due to their alien nature, nature Spirits do not form fondnesses or friendships with Wisemen. Though a spirit may appear multiple times to accept a offering from a Wiseman, they do not form a attachment for the Lycan. The spirit may merely appreciate the offerings made by the Wiseman and be pleased with past negotiations they have made.
Only Lycans who are sensitive to the spirits of the natural world have the potential to become a Wiseman. Wisemen are possessed of a restless nature and do not settle down with packs, but roam where ever they wish. During their wanderings Wisemen may at times come across a young Lycan who has the potential to become a Wiseman themselves. When this occurs the Wiseman will take the young Lycan to someplace private to have a discussion with them. During this time the Wiseman determins if the youngster is worthy of becoming a Wiseman, or if it might be in the Lycans best interest to Seal their sensitivities. Wisemen take this responsibility extremely seriously. To leave a young Lycan who does not have the right heart open to the Spirits is viewed as negelectful. Young untrained Lycans pose the danger of insulting and upsetting spirits unintentionally. This in turn can cause great calamitys to befall the Lycan and all those around him or her.
If a young Lycan is judged worthy, the Wiseman returns with the youngster to his family or pack, and announces his descison to take the promising Lycan as his disciple. A Wiseman may take as many Disciples as he or she feels they may be capable of teaching. It is not uncommon for a Wiseman to have up to four young disciples in his care. Disciples remain with their Wiseman teacher until they feel they are competent enough to strike out on their own.
Should a Wiseman deem that a young Lycan is unworthy of training, he may perform a Sealing Ritual. It is a simple ritual that places protective shields upon the young Lycan that effectively closes them off to the spirit world. These shields can be removed later on in life by another Wiseman if the young Lycan should grow and prove himself worthy in the eyes of the next Wiseman he meets.

:Sageman:
Of all the Shamen, the Sageman is the only one whose power comes from within. Loremen use the power of plants, Wisemen call upon the power of spirits, and Sagemen command the powers of both. Sagemen possess un-naturally strong wills. They are born naturally, or created under special circumstances. To be born a Sageman, two circumstances must occur. The first is the rise of a blue moon. A Blue moon is a exceptionally rare occurance, many Lycans believe it is the Eye of the Sky Lord peering down upon them. The second circumstance has to do with the actual birth of the Lycan. The birthing mother must die before her child has left her womb. In this it is believed the mothers death opens the cub's senses while he is still in the womb to the powers beyond the veil of death. By saving the cubs life and bringing it into the world of the living, the cub is infused with a part of these powers. Sagemen are revered as something more then a mere Lycan, and feared as a un-natural creature.
As a Sageman grows, he discovers his own personal powers. Sagemen do not always have identical abilities. Some have a wide varity of abilities with moderate power and control, some have only a few abilities with a great deal of power and control. Sagemen can not be taught how to use their abilities when there is no garuntee they share the same power and as a result there is no Teacher/student relationship that is formed. A young untrained Sageman may take up following a older Sageman for the sake of companionship, but in the end they normally part ways as the elder Sageman will not be able to give anything more then basic guidance to the younger.
Sagemen are identified young by the strange occurances that will happen around a young Lycan. Such as items moving or levitating in their presence. Flames appearing in bursts in corrospondance to strong emotions. Hearing the thoughts of others in their general area, or others being able to hear their's. Once a Sageman is aware of his abilities, he may begin practicing them to gain greater control of them, and even to discover other abilities that they may possess.
A secondary power that Sagemen have access to are Rituals. Rituals are personal ceremonies created by Sagemen for specific purposes. In order to create proper Rituals, Sagemen must first come to understand the secrets of both nature and the spirits. This is done normally by summoning a lesser spirit and gaining what knowledge it may be willing to share. This is exceptionally risky in the begning, as Sagemen are not viewed kindly by any sort of spirit, unlike Wisemen. Without proper knowledge in accordance to spirits, a Sageman risks being attacked or cursed by the summoned spirit. A Sageman's summons is not as respectful as a Wiseman's offering. It draws a spirit reguardless of whether it wishes to come or not. The summoning does not give the Sageman the ability to turn away a spirit if he finds it lacking or of the wrong sort. He must deal with the spirit that comes and hope that he does not further offend the spirit.
Once a Sageman gains enough information to perform a proper Ritual, his options truely become numerable. A Sageman may summon specific types of spirits or even natrual creatures, and bind them to his will.

Sageman Ritual Samples
The following are samples of Rituals that a Sageman may create. These are basic rituals so feel free to use them for your own Sageman if you have one. Wiseman Spirit Lore is the base for all rituals, as the items used for Offerings are required to create a ritual for particular Spirits. It should be noted that Wisemen very -very- rarely share this knowledge with any Lycan at all, Sagemen in particular. As a Wiseman and Sagemans views and practices with the Spirits are opposites. A Sageman often must learn his knowledge through trial and error unless he finds another Sagemen to instruct him in this Power.
