IMPORTANT-PLEASE READ BEFORE CONTINUING: 1. Feel free to PM to join even if I have a partner and I shall roleplay with you as well <3, I enjoy getting different takes on roleplays.-/ 2. Please do not post in this thread unless you have sent a profile and I have given it the OK! 3. As always, feel free to take any liberties in my roleplay <3 4. Yes, this prestory is kind of long, but wait! Aside from being well-thought out..I think it is an interesting read! (though being the writer I suppose I would...o-o)

~The world is Ioron, (think of a Lord of the Rings-ish world, but with many more major races and magick-users) the kingdom of Dralezmar. One of the twelve kingdoms under the high kingdom of Avaria. (Avaria is the most magickal part of the world, covering one-fourth of Ioron itself. (Ioron=Earth) Dralezmar deals with mostly wizards and mages, and is considered sort of the more warrior-class of all of the kingdoms, save for Tralthar, which is the equivalent of our Sparta. Dralezmar contains the Drazlorn Forest, one of the largest forests in Avaria and also one of the most magickal.~ (If you didn't understand any of this, don't worry, it's helpful but not necessary <3)

~Pre-story~

Kalenem Drazkeryan is the crown prince of Dralezmar. He lives with his mother Nadiyr, a Fae woman. His father died while he was young, and his mother in concern sent for X (this is your character, give him a name.) X is a distant cousin, distant enough that he isn't even considered royalty despite the faint traces of royal blood in him. Nadiyr chose him because X's mother had been a dear friend of hers. When Kalenem was five, and X was seven, they finally met. At first, Kalenem seemed to dislike X, who took offense and started to complain to his uncle, (who'd adopted the orphan). But Kalenem ran forward and stole X's hat, running away and causing the other to chase after him. Kalenem ran and nearly fell off a sharp drop off, a little ledge that went down on top of large boulders. X grabbed him at the last moment, a desire to protect Kalenem rising in him even as hero-worship began in Kalenem towards X. From then on, as Nadiyr had desired, the two were inseperable. They caused all sorts of mischief and trouble, occasionally saving each others life and doing works of both heroism and trouble-making. This went on for twelve years, until Kalenem was seventeen, and X was nineteen.

A dragon had been plaguing Drazlorn Forest for quite some time, even venturing towards surrounding towns. The people were in a frenzy, and everytime they sent a warrior to slay the dragon..he never returned. The Champion of the Realm (basically the greatest knight in the kingdom) was sent and failed to come back. Nadiyr is not sure how to handle the situation, considering she has no desire to waste lives..and honestly, being Fae, she sympathizes with the dragon and knows that the rumors of the bloodthirsty dragon are probably not entirely accurate, which is the opinion of Kalenem as well. A new Champion must be declared, and inevitably, the Champion would be called to face the dragon. X, an accomplished warrior for his age, asks Kalenem for the position. He declines no matter how much the other begged, telling X finally that he was not ready for such a task, that it was a responsibility that X could not handle and he appoints another. (As future king, appointments are his job unless Nadiyr specifically says otherwise) He chooses a battle-experienced man named Grenwon.

X is furious and hurt, not seeing why Kalenem would deny him the thing he so desired..to be Champion of the Realm..to have more equal footing with his dearest friend..to be more than just the Prince's Companion (his official title) when confronted, Kalenem tells X it's for the best. And X in his rage, speaks harshly. He says that he will go after the dragon himself, and when he does, he will take the title of Champion for his own. Kalenem begs him not to go, further 'not supporting' X , and telling him the dragon was not just some animal. X is scornful of the thought, calling the dragon a murderous beast who deserved to die. He says one last thing before leaving. "You disgust me, you don't want me to have the title..you want a shadow to hide behind..but no more, I am not your shadow, coward." Too angry to regret it yet, he made his way into the forest.

Kalenem wishes to send soldiers out, but many are defending the kingdom's southern border at present, and the soldiers around had to be kept by the palace. The life of one man apparently did not weigh against anything else, and Kalenem was forbidden as crown prince to leave..so he stayed..

Meanwhile, X delved deep into the forest, coming up to a large mountain with a huge cave inside that stretched in the mountain for miles. The dragon's lair lay there, and he took a trail up the mountain and found the cave. Once inside, he sees a slumbering dragon and moving quickly, stabs the dragon through one of it's only two weak spots:it's heart. It gives a bloodcurdling yell, so human that X drops his sword in horrified surprise. The dragon speaks in a gurgling, blood-choked voice, one that held no hatred or anger, simply tiredness. "Human..you are a fool..I know why you have come, and I let you give me this wound..I am tired..I would like to rest now, but for this..you will pay a price. You will have more power than you ever thought possible, something you want, correct?" Dragons were natural seers, often having powers ranging from premonition to empathy, to simply knowing things. "You want to be strong..you will have this..but because of this, you will take my place."

X started to back away, not understanding as the dragon started to rise. "I am the Guardian of the Forest, and now you must take my place..enjoy your power, for whatever it is worth." The dragon brought its hand forward and stabbed a claw through X's chest, piercing his heart. In that instant there was a flash of light and the dragon was gone. X fell to the ground and rather than bleed, he began to change. In a matter of painful, agonizing moments..X the boy was no more..in his place was a dragon. In fright and pain, he leapt from the cave, his wings moving automatically to take him aloft. He flew long and hard, coming just past the forest and in the distance, with his superior vision, he could see the castle..the castle where Kalenem was..but suddenly he was halted as though he'd run into a wall. Try as he might, he could not cross..he was trapped. X gave a terrible scream, but anyone listening would have only shivered at the 'terrible dragon' that they thought was loose. Angry, hurt, and afraid, he went back to the cave, bitterly realizing only then that Kalenem had been right..and that Kalenem had only been trying to protect X..and now, he'd never get a chance to apologize for his terrible words.

That night, as he lay alone in the cave and cried large, dragon tears..he became human. X was overjoyed and thought himself free, but two hours later, the dragon form took over once again..two hours each night and no more, he could be human..but X decided he'd rather be a dragon, then it wouldn't hurt so much to be reminded of what he'd lost..

~Five years later~

Kalenem is twenty-two years old, a king in everything but name. The carefree boy of his youth is gone, replaced by a strong, commanding king that had come to life in the absence of X. Hearing his friend declared dead had hurt him before hardening him..X's final words a constant, bitter reminder. But he is not unkind, and tries to do well for his kingdom..though the dragon problem was still major, and it was decided that Kalenem would set out. The people feared for their prince, but he was resolute and his mother gave her blessing, seeing no other option. Kalenem did not want to kill the dragon..but there is little choice. He travels long into the day and night, stopping to rest only once before continuing. The forest will not harm one of it's own, halfling or not, and he passes by safetly. Kalenem traveled and it wasn't until the sun had just begun to set that he found the cave, traveling up the mountain to the entrance and what lay inside..

~Pre-story end~

This is where the story begins. Kalenem will enter, and neither will recognize the other at first. It's been five years, so obviously Kalenem looks a bit different, and X, obviously, is a dragon. X has been forced to kill men in his time as a dragon, a kill-or-be-killed kind of thing, along with the truly evil men that entered the forest to do it harm. Any pain the forest feels, X feels as well. He's become bitter, cold, and angry at his fate and his inescapable prison in the form of the monstrous dragon body and the forest. His only bittersweet moments, the only times he's even slightly happy, is thinking on happy memories of him and Kalenem..and those are the nights he cries.

X should threaten to kill Kalenem when he enters, yada yada. After he gets a good look at Kalenem and listens to him speak, he should recognize the other. Whether he tells his identity right away or not is your choice. - After Kalenem finds out about X, he'll eventually tell the other he's going home to get help. X will try to stop him, not wanting Kalenem to leave and knowing that any 'help' would not share Kalenem's kindness and would try to kill X. To stop him from leaving, he'll bind Kalenem to himself by drawing blood from Kalenem and licking it, and then placing his own blood in Kalenem's mouth and speaking the word 'bind'. From then on, Kalenem will be unable to go more than forty-feet from X at any given moment, if one dies-so will die the other, they can communicate via thought, (telepathically), and also draw on each other's magick.

X knows people might come looking for their prince..but he doesn't care, he's been so lonely..missed his friend so much..it was the only thing he could think to do, even if Kalenem got angry..~

~The story will involve falling in love, getting X back to normal, defending the forest/kingdom, some dragon interaction. This isn't all that can or will happen, just some ideas~

Lastly-there is a meeting of dragons called Mazrath that takes place two or three times a year, and there is one coming up in a few days. X has to go, as all dragons must, and can only leave the cave since it's via portal and he'll be back once it's over. X will have to take Kalenem with him, since he bound Kalenem and the bond cannot be unbroken, at least, not by either of them.~

Caelum lost his right eye not long after he stormed away Kalenem and left to find the dragon to prove himself. When he was changed into a dragon, the eye was healed, if you could call it that. It's a hateful green serpentine eye just like the eye of the dragon he killed, and whenever he's in human form, he hides it. Also, for every man that Caelum has been forced to kill while a dragon, he has buried them near the cave he calls home, their graves marked with a stone and a personal item they carried. He considers it his duty.

Kalenem Drazkeryan stepped easily up the mountain, gifted by his elven blood with inhuman speed and grace. That was something he'd shared with Caelum..once upon a time. Because of the dragon, Caelum was gone..because of the dragon, Kalenem was alone. He didn't want to kill the dragon, but neither was he feeling, nor could he afford to be, merciful. His brown-lavender hair, unusual even for a magickal being, was bound and hidden beneath a hooded cloak, along with his elven ears. There was no sense in displaying such things in unfamiliar territory after all.

Something else was also hidden, a necklace made of silver that looked like two intertwining vines with a 'cage' coming down. Inside was a tiger's eye stone shaped like a heart. Caelum had spent three days in the forge, making it for Kalenem's birthday. To Caleum's knowledge after giving it to his friend, Kalenem had never taken it off. Quietly, he came before the mouth of the cave, a dark entryway into the dragon's lair. There was no question about that, since it overlooked the whole of the forest and was large enough to comfortably fit a pair of dragons.

The elven lad stood by the entrance a moment, drawing his sword. He wouldn't use it to stab the dragon of course, but it heightened his magickal abilities..this athame had been with him for awhile and he'd given it the elven name Vallyn, or fire. Kalenem paused a moment before stepping inside the cave. Dim lights flickered along the walls, lit by glowing orbs he recognized as light spheres.

Along the ground lay trinkets and objects ranging from the highest quality gold, to the most glimmering silver..jewels were scattered..magickal objects as well. Dragons hoarded treasure obsessively, no one was quite sure why..Fascinated, he stepped further into the cave..and saw the dragon. Kalenem's silvery eyes went wide as he murmered, "Drakyais." The elven word for dragon, which translated into wise-one. The dragon was massive, nearly spanning even the large cave..with gleaming, opalesque scales..it was magnificent..and Kalenem stood transfixed.

Caelum had been asleep when the lights turned on, telling (warning) him that someone had entered his cave. He didn’t like it when someone bothered him when he was sleeping. It almost always was a human or, sometimes, a group of them, who had come to kill him. Caelum hated it when anyone came to wake him. It made him cranky—well, more than usual. He always had been, but becoming a dragon had made the consequences for waking him a tad more...lethal.

Not that he was angry to have been woken from his dreams, but that he wasn’t either. Caelum had been dreaming dreams that he loved and hated, hated more than loved. Dreams of being human again, being with Kalenem once more. He wasn’t sure if he missed being human, or he missed Kalenem more. It had amused him, when he was younger and still human, that their names sounded so much the same. Before he discovered the connotations of his own name. Since then it had always tormented him, now more than ever. Caelum; faded star. It suited him completely and he hated it for it. He felt more useless and powerless, even in his dragon form, than when Kalenem told him that he wasn’t ready to be Champion of the Realm.

The dragon sat, keeping his eyes closed as he weighed the pros and cons of dealing with the human (or humans) that were bothering him or going back to sleep. Pro, he wouldn’t be cranky. Con, he’d be dead. Pro, maybe once he was dead he could go back to being human. Con, he was already awake, so what was the point of going back to sleep? He hissed, angry, gold serpentine eyes opening and focusing on the being that dared wake him. He snorted at the word, which was conveniently magnified by the cave’s structure, bouncing off the walls to his ears

“One of the elf kind...?” He murmured, his voice deep, gravelly and thick. There was a clear note of irritation in there as well. The gold eyes focused on the unsheathed sword for but a moment before focusing back on the hooded face. None of the elf kind he knew would dare enter his cave with a sword drawn. Human, then, or even a half-blood. One that knew the elven language. It would be best to speak in a language it understood then... “Leave now. I have not the patience to deal with warriors intent on killing me, nor those who have not the honour to face me properly. If you do not remove yourself from my presence within the next few seconds, you will meet the same end as the others before you.”

Kalenem watched as the dragon sat, he'd been sleeping apparently. Was waking him a good or bad thing, would the wrath have been worse if he'd surprised the dragon? Either way, with a dragon as his opponent..things were bound to be a close call at every turn. And what made it worse was how little he wanted to engage the dragon. There was anger at the possible fate of Caelum, enough that he was tempted to hurl magick at the dragon until it exploded from the mixture..but the other part, the elven part that loved all creatures..that said sensibly that it had possibly just been defending itself..stayed his hand.

The dragon hissed then, as golden eyes, startling and piercing focused on Kalenem. The dragon knew him for an elf, he'd said as much in that voice of his..so unlike that of the dragon he'd met before. That dragon had been older, with a scratchy, although smooth voice that soothed him. Dragons naturally had that ability, he supposed. "Half-elven, actually."

Kalenem wasn't surprised to hear the elven language spoken back to him..normally he'd speak in Avarian, but if the dragon had already bothered to switch to elven tongue, why not he? "My intent is not to kill you, merely to take care of you one way or another. I am sent by my people to rid them of the terror plaguing them..whether you are a terror or not, I do not know you well enough to judge..but you have been harming my people, and that is reason enough to make you leave at the very least."

He considered the dragon's words and pulled down his hood. Aside from hindering his peripheral vision, he would rather not have his honor questioned. Brown-lavender hair shone faintly in the light spheres rays, as light glinted off the silver, tiger's eye necklace. "There now dragon, I face you as I am. Are you satisfied?"

Gold eyes narrowed as Caelum shifted his massive body, moving a little closer to the half-elf. Not so close to be struck, but close enough to properly face this bothersome man. And he hadn’t left yet either. Didn’t people understand the concept of leaving him alone? Every time he told them he would kill them if they didn’t leave, but did any of them listen? He was getting tired of digging graves for all those imbecilic men.

He grumbled softly at that thought. He had once been an imbecilic man, like them. But he hadn’t the chance to die. Instead he was stuck here, listening to the silly half-elf speak about trying to get him to leave. He’d tried to leave. He’d tried hundreds of times, as both human and dragon, and it clearly hadn’t worked since he was still here. He was never going to see Kalenem again. He was always going to regret the things he’d said before he left. He could do without someone else reminding him about it. Although...the voice sounded so familiar. As if he’d heard it before, long ago. But that was...

Impossible... The dragon’s eyes widened and the pupils became pin-pricks when the half-elf revealed himself. “You are...” Kalenem. They sent Kalenem to deal with him?! The very person he had been missing these five years; that he desperately wanted to see just once more. They sent Kalenem?

The bubbling joy he felt at seeing his friend again was immediately struck down by years of bitterness and anger. Kalenem didn’t recognize him. Kalenem had never tried to find him after he left, not even sent a search party to his forest. And, now, he was only here to ask Caelum to leave. His voice turned cold and eyes narrowed once more. “It is a surprise to see you here, Prince Kalenem. I had thought that it was simply another warrior come to kill me. Unfortunately, I cannot fulfill your request. I have lived a solitary life these past five years and there is no place for me to go. This forest is my home.” And my prison. His mind snarled. “Even if there was, I am unable to go beyond the forest’s borders.” He paused for a moment before adding, as an afterthought. “As is the human.”
PostPosted: Tue Sep 30, 2008 7:57 am

The dragon shifted, coming slightly closer to Kalenem. The half-elf didn't so much as blink, apparently unfrightened by the mass of power and bulk before him. And why should he be afraid? Elves feared no creatures..and moreover..this was his duty, he would not fail to perform it. Suddenly, the dragon's eyes widened as the pupils shrank alarmingly. Uneasy, Kalenem stiffened just a bit as he looked up at the dragon. He was..what? And then the dragon's eyes were narrowed yet again, his voice cold. The words surprised him a bit. "Prince Kalenem, you know me?"

He listened as the dragon continued, frowning at the words. The dragon was bound to the lands? And then something else caught his attention, "Five...years?" The amount of time that Caelum had been gone.."And what human? What are you speaking of, dragon?" To him, the dragon's words were rather random and nonsensical. Kalenem held the sword a bit tighter, slightly defensive again in case this was an insane dragon..perhaps explaining it's behavior since dragons nowadays attempted to avoid other lifeforms.

His eyes drifted around the cave and came to rest on a place in the corner where a single light sphere lay near the ground rather than the ceiling..and he saw why.

On the ground, set on what appeared to be a small stand was a bracelet. The bracelet was woven of the leaves of the Vallyn flower, a flower that bloomed and glowed at it's peak, and when it died, burst into beautiful flames. Using elven magick and a strand of hishair woven in, he'd created a bracelet from the vines and had given it to Caelum on his birthday, just after having gotten his necklace.

A pained expression crossed his face as he moved towards the bracelet and picked up gently, holding the delicate looking, though actually rather strong bracelet in his hands. Kalenem's voice was soft, almost a whisper, "This..this bracelet belonged to someone I knew..you must have..defended yourself against him too..I thought maybe..there was a chance he was ali-"

He faltered as he tried keep his voice steady, but it was true. He'd been hoping somewhere that Caelum was still alive..he'd been certain she would have known if he'd died..but this..this was proof he was gone, was it not? Caelum would never have lost it, he knew it meant to him what the necklace meant to him, and that was so very much. Kalenem shuddered slightly as a tear trickled down his cheek.

Caelum had the unbearable urge to snap at Kalenem—both figuratively and literally. Of course he knew Kalenem. If he did not know the boy, why would he call him by his name? Instead he withdrew from the half-elf curling back up and no longer physically threatening the other’s personal space. He was still angry, but clearly that wasn’t getting across to Kalenem. Did the other ever notice when he was angry except when Caelum exploded at him?

Oh, this was getting so tiring. He really wanted to bite something now. He couldn’t help it. He hadn’t returned to his human form for so very long. Caelum supposed that he was getting used to being a dragon. Sometimes he thought that being human was all just a dream and he’d always been a dragon. He wished it desperately, so that he wouldn’t have those memories of when he was human, when he’d been with the boy in front of him. After the years he’d been bound here, Caelum was finally becoming comfortable in his skin, even if it was the hulking form of a dragon. If only Kalenem hadn’t come. If only it had been someone else, then he wouldn’t be listening to this the other, feeling that this was tearing him in two.

“Five years...” Caelum agreed. “I came to live here after my...predecessor died.” Had he been human, his lips would have twisted at his words. Predecessor, ha! He couldn’t, didn’t say that the previous dragon had forced him into this form from his original one. He didn’t want Kalenem to know what happened to him. It was terrible, it was embarrassing and it was not something he wanted to share with anyone. Least of all Kalenem. Least of all the person he missed desperately.

Answering the question about the human was not something that he was ready to do though. Why did he mention that there was a human in the forest when he knew full well that the only human there was him when he chose to be human? Did he want Kalenem to know he was alive? And...what? He couldn’t leave this place, and Kalenem would want him to come back. Or would he? This was the same person who hadn’t bothered to search for him but instead kept sending men to try and ‘kill the dragon’.

The muscles of his body tensed when the boy—Kalenem would always be a boy in his eyes, now more than every—moved to the one thing in the cave Caelum treasured more than his own life. He wanted to stop Kalenem from touching it. He hadn’t touched it himself in four long years. Kalenem didn’t have the right to touch it now, after all this time Caelum had been alone. He couldn’t very well stop him though—that would be stupid and what if the bracelet was damaged when he did?

When the half-elf picked it up and spoke, all the dragon did was sigh and look away to the setting sun, a little annoyed and still speaking in that cold voice of his. “I did not have to defend myself again that man. He did not and still has yet to attack me.”

(I should have a Wizard post by tomorrow, I go to school tomorrow and would normally just stay home but I'm headed to Grandma's house. If I get a chance I'll post it, otherwise I'll have it definately by Saturday and then I have fall break next week so..NO SCHOOL! <3)

Kalenem waited for a response from the other. He wasn't sure what to make of the the dragon before him..it wasn't vicious or stupid, as the townspeople swore, though he'd guessed that on his own before ever meeting sed dragon. And now that he had..he was puzzled as to how the dragon knew him. He was often recognized on sight for being prince, but that was by people who were actually around and paid attention..how did this dragon know of him?

"Your predecessor.." He hadn't known that dragons had predecessors. What was the point..a succession of who got to be in the cave? That seemed like a waste of time to him, and dragons, from what little he knew, were not often time-wasters."I see.." Well, not entirely, but enough he supposed. He waited again for a response, but none was forthcoming..and besides, he was distracted.

Kalenem was certain he'd irritated the other when he went for the bracelet. But why..was it special special to Caelum? The thought seemed far-fetched somehow and yet, almost right. Would it be so wrong for a dragon to find the piece delightful? Caelum had always loved the bracelet..And then the other said words that made Kalenem pause. For a moment, he didn't dare believe what he'd thought he heard.

And yet, who else would speak to the dragon? Kalenem couldn't stop the hopefulness in his voice. "Has yet?" Kalenem's expression became slightly eager as his expression passed hope, concern, and a sort of disbelief as if he didn't dare hope that it were true. He looked up towards the dragon. Kalenem felt the flicker of hope as he waited for the reponse, "Please..I need to know..is Caelum alright; dragon? Is Caelum alive? Please..if he is, I need to go to him!" Kalenem became slightly anguished a moment, before his expression quieted and hope was the only thing left as he looked up at Caelum.

( Yay~!
Oh, you’re so lucky. I have midterms next week. ;-; I really should work on studying right now... >>;; )

The most Caelum wanted to do right now was be left alone. Didn’t Kalenem understand how his presence was affecting him? How angry he was making Caelum feel? Of course not. The dragon grumbled softly, exasperated. He didn’t look back at the prince, though. He just kept staring at the sun sinking below the horizon. Not quite yet. He couldn’t become up quite yet. Not that he wanted to. It just seemed like it would be the only thing that could placate the boy.

Despite that, the dragon curled up a little tighter. He hadn’t become human for such a long time, and he would hate to return to those times when he couldn’t stop changing back every night. Oh, that time was when he turned so bitter against the rest of humanity. Or, rather, humanity and every other greedy creature in this world. And Caelum himself couldn’t be called human anymore.

But there was enough of a spark of who he had been for him to sigh, though it sounded more like a growl this time, and poke at Kalenem’s back with his tail. Not that he looked at the other again. “I am not certain if the current owner of that bracelet is the same one that you know. But the human often goes to visit the graves nearby after sunset. If you wait there, I’m sure you will meet him.” And this meant that he’d have to find some clothes that fit him in the piles of ‘treasures’ that were in the cave.

“Prince Kalenem, it would be best if you left immediately so you do no miss the human.” Yes. It would be best if Kalenem wasn’t here when he turned back into a human since he did not want the other to know who he was. When he finally turned to. “It would also be best if you left that bracelet here and stopped bothering me as well. We can discuss whatever it was that you came here for tomorrow.” Caelum closed his eyes, as if to sleep, and waited for Kalenem to leave. Now would be nice.

Kalenem heard the dragon grumble, though he continued to avoid Kalenem's eyes. Why was that? Why was he so determined not to look at Kalenem? The dragon's gaze appeared to be transfixed on the sinking sun, was he waiting for something? What would a dragon be waiting for anyway?

The aforementioned dragon curled up tighter. He really didn't understand the dragon at all and it was somewhat frustrating..especially when he was so eager to get some answers in regards to his lost and dearest friend. Then the dragon sighed and poked his back, causing Kalenem to seem startled, but not frightened. "The graves?" Ah wait..from his victims..but, who made the graves? The dragon..he must have made them..

"No, I don't want to miss him.." The statement was said almost absently, the mystery of the dragon hanging overhead. He looked to the bracelet in his hand, he was tempted to keep it in a way..but as the dragon had it now, he was certain the other would consider it stealing anyway. With a sigh, he set the bracelet back down.

Kalenem stepped to the dragon slowly, so as to show he posed no threat. He looked over the other a moment before placing his hand on one of the dragons claw-like paws and holding it there firmly, apparently neither afraid nor repulsed to touch the dragon. The boy said softly, "Unlike many of the others..I've never thought you to be a monster..thank you for your help. When I go back to my kingdom, I will tell them that you are dead and not to come to the forest anymore. As long as you do nothing rash, you will stay hidden and you will not need any more graves."

He pulled away then, walking to the entrance and giving a partial bow, a sign of respect. "Goodbye, Drakyais." Kalenem stepped out headed for the graves with a last, soft smile at the dragon before walking out and heading for the graveyard.

(Yeah...
It would help if I didn’t keep getting interested in the RPs you post too, ya know. =x Not that I’m complaining)

Caelum didn’t move at all as Kalenem spoke. Didn’t answer his questions or respond to the words. The sun had gone below the horizon, to his eyes, despite there being some fading light in the sky. He could become human now, and show the other exactly what had happened to him... No. He didn’t want Kalenem to know. The boy didn’t need to know.

So lost in thought, he didn’t notice the prince moving closer to him until he felt the hand on one of his scaly claws. It startled him enough to look at Kalenem properly, eyes guarded. The words he spoke, though they carried the weight of a prince, clearly indicated that he didn’t know what the hell he was talking about. If something happened to the forest, what was Caelum supposed to do? Sit pretty and ignore the pain? No. He was supposed to protect it. He had to protect it. And there would always be people ignoring what Kalenem ordered, entering the forest and doing damage to it. He couldn’t not do anything rash when he was in pain either. Kalenem would just have to live with that.

Caelum sighed and relaxed once he was certain Kalenem was gone, lost in thought about meeting him. Meeting the Caelum he remembered, the human friend. Not the grouchy dragon he’d woken from a nap. Once he was certain—absolutely positive—that Kalenem wasn’t able to see into the cave, Caelum sighed and closed his eyes, concentrating on returning to his human form.

Human once more, Caelum groaned softly and he picked himself off the floor before leaning again the nearby stone, a hand on the cave wall. It was odd, going from walking around on four legs to two. He sighed, shaking his head. His hair had grown longer. He always wondered whether or not his human body aged despite him being a dragon all the time. Apparently it did. Caelum sighed and stumbled further into the cave. The clothes were on the...right? No, left. Oh, this would be so much easier if he didn’t feel so disoriented.

He wasn’t sure how long he wasted dressing and then trying to leave the cave without Kalenem noticing. A half hour at the most, he hoped. He didn’t want to suddenly change back into a dragon when he saw the other. With a patch covering his right eye, a sword at his waist and in clothes that had seen better days, Caelum sighed and walked into the graveyard, pretending not to notice Kalenem.

(O_O Really? HUZZAH!!!!!!!!!!! *tacklez/hugglez* *givez you a cookie* Happynezzzzzzz <3~)

Kalenem heard no response to anything he said. One minute he spoke freely..-ish, and then next he was quiet and seemed to be lost in his own thoughts. But as he touched the dragon, for a moment, the other looked at him properly. Eyes stared back at him, guarded, though somehow familiar..why?

He thought about that as he walked from the cave, glancing around before seeing a gravesite a ways off. Of course, it made sense that the dragon wouldn't want it very near to his cave..who would? He walked to the gravesite and looked around..there were quite a few graves..how many of people he'd known?

Kalenem heard a sound and turned, his eyes widening at what he saw. Five years had aged the man a bit, no longer the boy he'd been when he'd set out to slay the dragon. A patch was on his eye..a sword, not an unfamiliar object for the man to have..and somewhat worn-down clothes..but all in all.."Caelum," he breathed the name, not caring that the other seemed to be deliberately taking no notice of him.

Without hesitation, he darted over and practically tackled Caelum as he wrapped his arms around the other's waist and hugged him tightly, gripping his shirt slightly in clenched fists as if afraid that Caelum would be lost if he let go. Kalenem didn't cry easy, he'd not even cried when as a young boy he'd broken an arm..but now, several tears fell down his cheeks at the emotion welling up inside of him. "Cae..you're..alive..all of this time..you've been alive," he hugged the other a bit tighter, his neck over Caelum's shoulder as he pressed their heads together in the embrace. "By the Gods..I've missed you, Cae."

This was...strange. Seeing Kalenem again. Being human after four long years of, first, resisting the temptation, and then not caring to remember how it felt. Being human when he saw Kalenem again. Judging from the boy’s shock, he did recognize him now. Oh yes, Caelum was a little irate. After four years as a dragon, wearing clothes felt too confining, carrying a sword that seemed redundant (and a little awkward), walking was so slow and pointless, and human senses were so limited. More so since he covered one of his eyes, pretending it was damaged when it probably was the better of the two.

Caelum supposed it would make more sense to see with both eyes, not to hide his very different right eye. But his desire not to be seen as the dragon, for Kalenem not to know, was overwhelming. So much so that he was thinking that it was a bad idea to meet Kalenem like this. He should leave now, change back into a dragon as soon as he could and sulk in his cave.

But debating whether or not he should be here made him forget that he was standing right in front of the person he didn’t want to be seen by. And then he suddenly felt someone tackling him, making him stumble backwards but not falling. He blinked and looked down at the boy. “Kalenem...” He frowned, unsure of what to do. Should he hug him back? This felt so awkward. He sighed and patted the boy’s shoulder, rolling his eyes up. “Clearly. Why wouldn’t I be alive?” His voice was different from when he was a dragon, but there was the same irritation in his voice. Both as a dragon and as a human, he was irritated with being left alone for so long.

Kalenem had seen the contemplationary state that Caelum had been in before being hugged. He couldn't fathom why the other seemed so distant..had he really not noticed Kalenem? His dearest friend, even as Caelum was Kalenem's? And he could tell something else, Caelum was upset..angry in fact. But why, hadn't he wanted Kalenem to find him..to save him?

His name was spoken, but he knew Caelum well enough even after five years of being parted to know that it was spoken with a frown. He'd expected, or perhaps hoped for, one of Caelum's warm, bear-like hugs..but instead, all he got was a pat on the back. And that irritated tone of voice. Kalenem pulled away a little bit, hurt, but not removing his arms from Caelum..he was too worried that if he did, the other would just disappear again.

Kalenem looked up at him searchingly, his eyes dwelling on the eyepatch a moment as he reached his hand to brush two fingers along it softly, before lowering his hand and speaking. "You've been gone for five years, Caelum. I never..felt you die," he and Caelum had always been oddly attuned to each other, "But..after the first three years had gone by..I thought perhaps I was wrong and that you would have come home..or sent a message.."

He sighed quietly, dropping his gaze for a moment. Caelum didn't see happy at all to see him..why? Didn't he miss Kalenem at all..or..his eyes lifted suddenly as a pained, slightly confused expression crossed his face. "Caelum..did you stay here on purpose? Did you not want to come home? ..To..return to me?" Kalenem's expression grew a bit more pained as he looked to Caelum.

Caelum stared down at Kalenem, his face impassive. Dragons didn’t have as many muscles in their face to convey their emotions as humans did. And Caelum had invested every second of his transformed life into forgetting what it was like to be human. The memories from before the forest were clear, but distant.

He remembered enveloping Kalenem when he hugged him, remembered smiling, remembered being happy. But things had changed. Five years had been enough time for him to...mature, even if he was a bitter man now. Dragon. Whatever. All Caelum was certain of was that, as much as Kalenem was the same, he had changed. Kalenem didn’t, wouldn’t want someone who was so different from the boy he’d known five years ago.

Oh god, not that face. With that one look Kalenem managed to make Caelum feel bad about being angry at the other for being left alone all this time. He’d hurt Kalenem. Not physically, but apparently acting like he was, he’d hurt him. Oh god...he knew it. This really was a bad, bad idea. He winced when fingers touched his eyepatch and he caught the hand, holding it gently. Barely almost. He didn’t know his human body like he knew his draconian one. He had to be gentle in that one even with the most robust of objects, and human were easy things to break. He didn’t want to break Kalenem.

“I...I couldn’t.” Caelum mumbled, looking away. He missed Kalenem. He wanted to come back to him. But it was physically impossible for him to leave. “I... After I killed the dragon that was here, I couldn’t leave. The... He did something to me... And I can’t leave. I couldn’t come back. And...” He shrugged and sighed, not sure how to go on.

How was he supposed to explain this? He’d tried to before, when Kalenem came to the cave. He didn’t understand why telling the boy he was bound to the forest did not translate as being incapable of leave. And he so wanted to tell him how angry he was for being left to himself, for only have potential dragon-slayers coming and having to kill them because it was the only way. But...that would mean telling Kalenem he happened to be the dragon...
