Username: Sierra Latkje

Name: Cathal Saga

Race: Human

Gender: Male

Date of Birth: March 16, 1985

Teacher Room: 4

Subject: World History and Mythology (Primary Teacher), Ancient Japanese (Assistant Teacher). Also an Assistant Nurse. Off the main record, Cathal is also the head of the prefects at Mahora.

Biography: Cathal was born out of an internationally aranged marriage between the Saga family of Japan, who are descendants of the Fujiwara, and the Cenél Loairn Clan of Scottish Gaels, from the 5th century AD. An alliance between high ranking Japanese and Gaelic magic practitioners, facitlitated by this marriage, was forged at that time, and Cathal is the result of the effort; a magician able to use both the western and eastern magic traditions almost in equal measure, which at his age is near unheard of. A magical prodigy, much like Negi Springfield, Cathal is known to use improvisational techniques when casting spells, and boasts not only precision, but also power. His father had come from Japan to live in the land of his mother, so most of his early years he was raised in Scotland.

Cathal's childhood was one of study and hard teachings; Neither his mother's or father's side of the family was very lenient in its instruction, and even with the boy's exceptional skills, he was constantly hounded and pushed to study more magic, learn more fighting techniques, and better himself despite the fact he was so young. While it allowed him to learn more maneuvers and spells than anyone in his age group, and even several age groups above him, he found he wasn't a very happy person just learning. Just before his appointment to the council of mages at eighteen, Cathal managed an advanced teleportation spell, and with the blessing of both his parents, disappeared from his homeland. Using a type of veiling magic, and magical disguises, Cathal hid himself from the council trying to find him.

During Cathal's wanderings in Japan, he was recognized in 2006 by Konoemon Konoe, who arranged an omiai between himself and his young daughter Konoka. While both parties politely refused to marry, he did petition the elderly Konoe for a job as a teacher in Mahora, and explained his situation. Despite understanding and believing in the nature of one's duty, the dean accepted his offer, and wrote a lengthy paper back to Scotland to the magic association there. Mollified by the young man having a high position under the head of the Kanto magic association, of whom several of them were friends with, their return letter accepted his new position as a 'learning experience' on his own, and would agree to leave him be on the condition that he return home in a decade. Cathal agreed, but also added a stipulation that he would be in a marriage only of his own choosing. Once all conditions were met and agreed upon by all parties, Cathal reassumed his true name, and began teaching at Mahora.

Konoemon's decision paid off greatly when Cathal was able to forge Konoemon's prefects magic and energy nullifying artifacts based on a relic he had found in a ruin in Scotland in his early training; by deciphering the type of energy aura it had, he was able to craft similar, if weaker objects in different forms. Konoemon has since promoted him to head of the Prefect division, where they had no leader before save Konoemon himself. At this point and time, he continues to be their silent leader, though few would know it; he has not made this position known to anyone save the prefects, so most just see him as their teacher and someone to go to for advice.

Personality: An eccentric and energetic man, a serious anime otaku, with favorites in Death Note, Akira, and Bleach. Despite his age, he has a sharp and shrewd mind, and he's always looking for ways to save a buck. He tends to be very approachable, combining a 'live life the way you want' type of mentality, with a deep philosophical outlook on the nature of good and evil, so he tends to be gone to by students for advice. He's also somewhat of a pervert, and has a large adult video collection, and has a thing for mature (not necessarily older) women. On the side, he also loves to collect old or fast cars, but he has no mechanical skills whatsoever. Tends to be absent minded, though he tends to show extremely good insight when he's really needed, and has a great appreciation for history. Cathal loves the rain and storms, and will always stay out in one. He says they help his focus, though they also make him a little sad. He says he can't really understand why, they just always have.

Though he wears glasses his eyesight is actually fine; he just wears them because they 'look cool', in his own words, and more like a teacher. He also loves women who cosplay, for what he calls his own 'specific reasons'. Cathal also enjoys games of strategy, and loves Go, Chess, and other games, but also enjoys computer war games, and is particularly fond of the Heroes of Might and Magic series.

Weapon: Cathal uses a magical artifact weapon he terms the Cathal Glaive. A weapon he forged himself using magical techniques he observed while dreamwalking, The Cathal Glaive is based on the weapon of almost the same name from the movie 'Krull'. This runed five-pointed throwing weapon has retractable blades that exit or return into their holding places at the mental urging of the owner. The weapon is also capable of hovering midair, and changing direction at the wielder's mental urging, as well as returning, making this weapon a combination of a large shuriken, a boomerang, and a frisbee all at once. When not mentally directed, it simply acts as a large throwing star. When mentally commanded, the weapon can either be directed defensively and reinforced magically, to take blows or thin types of attacks like magical arrows or beams, or offensively, where it can spin at high velocity and be used much like a circular saw, or to make shallow cuts and threatening attacks, or as a piercing, throwing weapon.

When not in a serious battle, Cathal prefers to use normal weapons that are enhanced with magical runes and energies. He prefers two-handed weapons that are magically fixed so he can use them with one hand, such as Zweihanders and Flamberges.

Other: Cathal speaks English, Japanese, and a mixture of Irish and Scottish Gaelic. He seems to prefer Japanese, but often mixes in words from his other languages in his speaking. Cathal is capable of using both Western and Eastern Magic, which is rare, but he prefers to use Western Magic.

Appearance: Cathal resembles both sides of his heritage in various places. His black hair and the shape of his eyes speak of his Japanese heritage, whilst his pale violet eye color and light skin show off his European side. He stands around five foot eleven, and tends to wear mostly casual gear, even when teaching. His most favored clothing is a white button up shirt (usually unbuttoned at the top), a trenchcoat, glasses, and long pants with boots. Most usually he wears black or white, preferring simple colors, though he'll occasinally fit purple or silver into the color scheme somewhere depending on his mood. He dislikes the color green and won't wear it unless he has to. An athlete and warrior every bit as much as a magician, Cathal is built like a true martial artist; muscular, but not bulkily so, toned and built to make war and move quickly. More often than not, Cathal wears gloves with silver or black alchemic circles on them, but this has little magical significance; he just likes Fullmetal Alchemist. At times, he accents his clothing with chains or other accessories of that type, just to be different. Because of his somewhat disheveled, rebellious 'bad boy' look, he's very popular with teenage girls who like that type of guy.

Artifact: Cathal possesses a black notebook with silver lettering on the front. By knowing a target's true first and last name (middle name or additional/honorific names unnecessary), and knowing what the target looks like, and writing them in the book, he can completely nullify their ability to channel any form of energy except that needed to live and act normally. This acts as a type of high-powered seal, creating 'death marks' visible only to mages on the target's throat, upper arms, wrists, ankles, thighs, back, and chest. Interestingly, if the target is under any kind of magic, beneficial or otherwise, this also nullifies that as well. This artifact denies the existence of all things non-mundane except its own existence. This seal is not permanent; it lasts for eight minutes, fourty seconds. What it gives up in time, it makes up for with unlimited range.

Naturally, the artifact has flaws. Magicians of higher magical strength than the artifact's user have a chance of dispersing part of the effect, and having their magical or ki-fueled abilities only partially dulled. Note that the user cannot draw magic from any source, outside or otherwise, in order to cast a spell, nor can they activate an artifact that requires a phrase or incantation, but an artifact that casts a spell on its own and requires nothing from the wielder at all can still function as long as the nullified target is not the exact target. (in other words, if someone had a crystal that would create a barrier when shattered ten meters around the break point, that would be a valid effect since it does not target the actual victim of the seal, but an item that teleports the person would be negated, as it would target the person with the effect. An effect that uses the sealed individual as a designator for an effect however, is not affected, such as teleporting others TO the person's location, as the actual target is the location, and the user is just an indicator).

Type of magic: Fire, Lightning, Air, and Darkness; Western, Shielding, Summoning and Illusion Talismans; Eastern. Curiously, Cathal knows several very powerful, and ancient magics most mages of the current day do not know or have extreme difficulty mastering, such as Teleportation, Dreamwalking, Dreamcrafting, Astral Projection, and Time-Seeing. Like any mage, he cannot travel time in the conventional sense, but he is able to dream-travel to other periods, to observe, and he may project what he observes. This allows his teaching of history to be exceptionally accurate.

Activation Key: Solinari, Lunitari, Nuitari.
