Name of Deity - Apollo the Farshooter
Main Patronage of Deity - Music and Healing
Secondary Patronage of Deity - Light and the sun; truth and prophecy; archery, medicine, poetry, and the arts.
Usual Height - 6ft6 and about 3/4’s. He likes to be just that little bit quirky. It’s a talking point.
Personality - Apollo is talkative and a little vain. He loves to spend his time talking with both mortal and divine. He is fond of both men and women and if you compliment him you'll almost certainly be in his good books.
As a God, sadly Apollo is not always one for taking his job as fully seriously and has a tendency to go a little too far and finds himself chastised by his older sister. The God of healing is often thought to be kind, beautiful and gentle, but for the love of anything you hold dear never blacken the name of his sisters, Artemis or Athena or his mother Leto in hearing. If you do he will smite you, and he will smite you good.
He is a very good God, he is gracious and caring towards the sick, hence his healing patronage, but if you have the folly to anger him, as was the case in the legendary Trojan wars, his arrows will send plague raining down upon you. He is a little fickle and can be very very vicious if you flare his temper. He’s a little bit of a b***h if we’re really honest here.
Apollo is very forward with people and doesn’t tend to hide his identity from the mortals that he comes across. At the end of the day it actually wouldn’t take a lot to win this fickle God’s heart. He loves swiftly, deeply, but also often briefly. He often flits from partner to partner because he loves the excitement of the chase as well as the rush of victory that you can find only in love. It really is not unusual for Apollo to fall in love with a human on a bit of a whim. Usually this will end up mourning their short lives and their loss of beauty, then moving on right away. Sometimes though he prefers to play the game of loving and leaving his partners on a few monthly rota.
All in all Apollo the Farshooter is a rather impulsive God.
Favoured Activities - Apollo loves to take part in sports and contests, especially if they involve archery or running. Hunting with his sister, unless she cheats.... Playing the Lyre (which was actually invented by Hermes, and Apollo traded his cattle for it). Talking to beautiful young women and men, though his male lovers do tend to die in the most tragic of ways…). Spending time at festivals or in other social situations, where he can show of his skill and his good looks. Archery in general, any time he can find a reason to practice the skill, he will. Taking long baths, it’s just so fantastically relaxing.
Unfavoured Activities - Anything involving the Discus… it just has some very negative associations… and unless he’s had a little too much of Dionysus’ wine he’s not likely to go into it, it makes him look ‘vulnerable’. Anything that involves too much work really, he’d rather be having fun. Going down to the underworld, its just too creepy there, and its also been a threatened punishment more than once, he doesn’t want to tempt the fates.
Likes - Music, fun, sports, contests, singing, winning, being the best, being thought to be lovely, not having facial hair, young men, women, his sisters, his mother, playing the lyre.
Dislikes - Being reminded about Hyacinthus, Hades, looking less than beautiful/graceful/elegant/skilled, Athena confiscating his plague arrows, the blatant favouritism that prevents his father letting him play with his lightning bolts, Hera, Hera constantly trying to kill his mother (Sephiroth who?), Hera implying she has nicer hair than him, being turned down by irritating Oracles when you’re really only trying to show them a good time and a few ‘blessings’.
Favoured Animal - his sacred animals are swans, snakes (to symbolise prophecy) and cicadas (to symbolise music), among others.
Key Opinions - Apollo believes that Hera should stop trying to kill his mother, and that he, quite truthfully, is a rather beautiful being. He also believes that anyone who tries to force his sister to give up her purity deserves anything and everything he has coming to him… its pretty well certain not to be good.
Opinion of Worshippers - Apollo loves his worshippers. They make him feel special.
Symbolic Item - His symbolic items are his bow and Arrows and his Lyre. Also the bough of the laurel tree and a sacrificial tripod.
Family - Apollo and his ‘older by a little’ twin sister Artemis was born on the floating island of Delos after Hera forbade their mother, Leto, from giving birth on Terra Firma due to her anger at Zeus having gotten her pregnant. Floating islands are fantastic no? He lost his temper a few times and ended up spending a year as a shepherd for his troubles, luckily the king he worked for was a good guy and Apollo had quite a good time lazing with the sheep.
Personal Quirks - – He's a terrible flirt. Sore loser, even when he just about wins. Kills people for challenging him. He can sometimes be a little bit immature... then again, when you have eternity..
Anything Extra - – Once Apollo longed to be mortal, but this doesn’t happen very often. He used to, at one point ride on the back of a swan, but he gave it to Hyacinthus, the Spartan prince who he loved and lost after Zephyrus fit of jealousy which resulted in the mortal being struck with a discus. He turned Zephyrus into the wind so he could never again touch anyone. Harsh.
