God Profile: He is described by Kanzeon Bosatsu as ?famous as a weirdo, the man with a beautiful face? and an old friend of Konzen, he is thoroughly engrossed in books and researches like military-strategy or war history ones, and can never have a clean room because of the cluster of reading materials. Whenever he reads something ?interesting? he drifts into another world and wouldn?t hear what another was saying. Tenpo is the Field Marshal of the West Army Tenkai (Heaven) and is very short tempered, however like his human form he is kind to every person on his side. He tries to keep Kenren (Gojyo) out of trouble. Human Profile: He started out as a silent boy named Cho Gono who used to be feared by the children in the orphanage. As he grew up he fell in love with a woman named Kanan (in English version, Kanna) and tried his best for them to live together. However she was raped and kidnapped by the 100-Eye Demon, so he went to their tower and exterminated all 1000 of them?which made him a demon. But because of her being pregnant from the demon, she killed herself in front of him. He was taken care of by Gojyo later on and met Sanzo and Goku who arrested him to the Three Buddhas for murdering the demons. Instead of being executed, he was said to live a new life and changed his name to ?Cho Hakkai?, and since then he traveled with the other three to the West. His role of a peacemaker made him Sanzo?s adviser (but he doesn?t usually listen to him), Gojyo?s best pal and Goku?s big brother. Spoilers: ? Hakkai is based on the pig of the Chinese Novel Journey to the West, who is a celestial general reincarnated as a pig as punishment to his horny ways, though Hakkai is nothing like that. ^_^ He usually smiles and is cheerful to his companions despite the fact that danger is right ahead of them, and even Gojyo or the others doesn?t know whether he?s angry, serious, or just joking at some points when he smiles. But when he does become serious, the demons?and even Sanzo?s party?better run! ? Hakkai has a unique little dragon named Hakuryuu/Hakuryu as his pet who transforms into a jeep that carries them to towns. Sometimes Hakuryu proves to be even more useful as it occasionally defends its master from demons (ex. GS Requiem). ? He has strong luck and can hold liquor better than Gojyo or Sanzo; he once beat them in a drinking competition and a gambling game as well! ? He?s also little reckless that scares the heck out of the other three?like driving his jeep down a cliff. ? He likes kids as he introduced himself as ?Ten-chan? to Goku. (in his God Form) ^_^ ? In order not to turn evil and kill like the other demons in Togenkyo, he has a Youryoku Power Limiter as clip attached his left ear. When he takes off that device, he can finish off thousands of demons. Even Goku was impressed when he used his powers to turn into an energy barrier to protect them!

God Profile Kenren Taisho is an army soldier in Tenkai but is said to be much stronger than the average gods. Being different from the displeasing Konzen, he likes the flowers, women, and the liquor that makes him feel contented in Heaven. He doesn?t respect his seniors very much and smokes as well like in his human/youkai form. His actions and attitude should have caused him to be expelled from the Army if it weren?t for his adjutant Tenpo who is a wise tactician. Human Profile Gojyo comes from a taboo intercourse between a human and a demon, which is said to bring misfortune. The proof of his being half-youkai half-human is his red hair and eyes. He was taken care of by his demon stepmother and her son Jien?the stepbrother of Gojyo since they have the same father. Because he resembles her husband and a strange woman, she attacks him at times until it grew serious and Jien had to kill her himself and ran away. As he grew up he gets by life through gambling and women often flock to him. He found Gono (who changed into Hakkai) and lived together in his apartment 3 years before they were summoned to prevent Gyumao?s revival with Goku and Sanzo. Spoilers ? Gojyo in the Journey to the West is the Water Demon. Their weapons are similar, but he isn?t a short, thickly-bearded, dark-haired man?and certainly not the calmest one of the party (geez, they?d better exchange places with Hakkai!). Instead, the modern half-youkai is extra loud, expressive, loves women and cigarettes, and gambles for a living. But despite that and his picking fights with Goku he remains a very reliable friend who is willing to risk everything to save his group. ? He hates being referred to as ?water monster? and ?redroach? by Goku. But when someone makes fun of him because of his red hair or abuses other taboos, he is beyond hate! ? The scars on his face are from his youkai stepmother. He also wears a bandana with the word "ki" (stands for "joy") on it. ? If you see episode 14, you will notice Gojyo has a thing with little kids?particularly little girls?and never tell them off like we expect him to as the group?s bully. I guess he actually likes some other people besides sexy women. ^_^

Instead he?s innocent and naive like a child although he?s already a young adult of 18. Whenever you hear someone saying he?s hungry, you know it?s Goku! ? Goku is always picked on by his companions because of his childlike attitude. But he also possesses the Youryoku Power Limiter: a gold headband or a diadem. Good thing he has that on?if he is ever released from the device?as Seiten Taisei Son Goku, Great Sage Equal to Heaven?not even the Gods can fight back! ? During his time in Tenkai (Heaven), he carried chains and shackles that Kenren (Gojyo in Heaven time) knows it?s too heavy for anyone clasped around his hands, but he can lug it around like it was nothing! It gave Kenren an idea of how powerful he is. ? Goku may be a brainless little kid who just loves to eat and kick butt at first, but he can be very emotional at times. He had a friend bird during his days at Mt. Gogyo and it visits him at the dark prison for some time and the poor guy cried so much when it died. He may look like a pet monkey to Sanzo, but as the series continues it seems like there?s a deeper relationship between them. Goku is the only one who can snap Sanzo out of his cold and ruthless personality (see episode 20) and Sanzo is the only one that can almost stop him from destroying even in his true Seiten Taisei form. ? He hates it when people keep secrets from him (like when Gojyo didn?t say to them before about his past; see episode 4), because according to him he doesn?t have any.

He was told to take care of the monkey and had a stressful time keeping up with him. Like his human profile he is a little loud and had zero temper especially to Goku (he calls him his pet). But to Goku he is ?shining like the sun? because of his long golden blond hair. Human Profile : He was nicknamed ?Kouryu the River Drifter? by fellow disciples in the Kinzan Temple where he grew up. Komyo Sanzo was like a father to him as he taught him everything there is to know. When he was killed by demons his title was passed on to Kouryu and his name changed to Toua Genjo Sanzo Houshi. He possesses the Evil Sutra he can use to exterminate demons quickly and to retrieve his late master?s sutra. During the time when Togenkyo?s demons are going maniacal, he is being ordered by the Sanbutusin (Three Buddhas) to journey to the West along with three demons to find out something about Gyumao?s revival and hinder it. Spoilers ? Sanzo is the Monk in the novel Journey to the West, but he isn?t that helpless like the character in the book. He may be a handful (count how many times his group has to save him since he is either poisoned or injured), but his anti-descending gun and Sutra make up all of his shortcomings. In fact, he defies practically ALL the basic rules of a monk (a Sanzo at that!): has blond hair he refuses to shave off, purple eyes, a very sexy undergarment, a nasty temper, a very very bad smoking and drinking habit, and needs a serious attitude adjustment. If his gun or Sutra doesn?t hurt you, his words will! ? He is NOT a laconic person as everyone else thinks. He is actually too hot-tempered that he always threatens Gojyo and Goku from making noise by either pointing his gun and shooting at them or whacking them with his paper fan (watch out Ayako!) ? Despite his highest monk title and knowledge of the villagers? admiration, he hates giving sermons to them and keeps a low profile. But he can live up to his position by chanting, meditating and preaching to his companions (the ones he would never admit as ?friends?). ? Believe it or not, he seems to be good with kids. One major example is when he kept Lilin from making too much mess by only handing her a meat bun (see episode cool . Must be from being attached to Goku too much. ^_^ ? Errr?he likes red pickled ginger in his fried noodles, I think. (see episode 32)

I've seen up to around disc four or five of Reload. Nada of Gunlock. At some point I'll have enough money to pick up the rest. This is easily in my top four favorite anime. heart
