Time moved on slowly, but move it did. The partly cloudy sky overhead may have looked at times like it might let forth a shower or two upon the wide Ironwood Forest, but in the end the fluffy grey clouds just continued on their travels.

Down below, on the edge of the river, Alex Barrett trudged his way back up onto the shore with a crude wooden spear over his shoulder, with several fat fish speared upon it. Yes, the river was teaming with fish heading upstream, and it seemed that anyone with half a lick of talent could catch a fish or two. Oh sure, Alex's tail was soaking wet at the end, and had probably been nibbled on by the less intelligent fish that were spawning, but Alex was too happy to care, as he walked up to a fire that he'd started in the clearing next to the river.

The clearing itself was down river, closer to town, away from Damian's camp and Gerta's cabin, but not close enough that a wayward villager would stumble across it less they be daft or out hunting. Being far enough out, Alex had started a fire, mostly to help cook some of the fish in an attempt to preserve them, but the only thing he was really managing to do was cook the fish to the point where the sweat smell of roasting fish would fill the area. Maybe Alex wasn't good at preserving food, but he was doing one heck of a job cooking them all the same.

Alex shrugged his winglets as he smelt the aroma of fresh fish currently cooking, while going about to work on putting some of the other fish he'd caught on sticks to cook them in turn as well. Plus, it was a welcome change to dry off his furred tail and legs while prepping the fish.

Still, with all this food being cooked and the scent that carried itself in the wind, you'd suspect that it might attract other creatures of the forest, be they arrivals like Alex or some of the local wildlife. Food was ready to be caught in the river, the scent rich in the air and hot on the fire.

She wasn't sure why it was she was walking in this direction last thing she wanted was to deal with some overly protective person over a crop field again. But there was some force that made her walk thro the trees in this particular direction.

Here head was saying no you'll get caught the same feeling she got before she jacked something. she was used to it but it was starting to get annoying cause it wasn't like there was much to take around here. Oh look a shiny moss covered rock.....

She laughed then kept going. She sniffed the air the smell was closer she wasn't sure if it was villager or what but the smell made her mouth water. even tho she had only eaten a while ago.

Well, the town was quite a bit of a walk off, even moreso if you didn't go the way the crow flew and instead walked the river bank as it moved back and forth. Alex had been in the forest enough to know that any villiagers would probably have turned back before getting to the clearing, so it was perfect for him to roast the fish.

Still, after drying himself off, he removed one of the fish, steaming hot and jabbed onto the end of a stick. The half gryphon grinned and tried to blow on the fish to cool it off, but soon found that having a lack of lips made it a losing task. So instead, he waved the stick back and forth, cooling it off, yet also spreading the scent of hot, cooked fish into the air.

After he was sure it was cool enough, he pulled the fish on a stick over and took a bite out of it. "Ooooh." He closed his eyes happily. The spawning fish were quite a tasty alternative to the usual river fish that Damian managed to catch. As he bit off some more chunks of fish, he swallowed them whole, knowing that Damian and the others would appreciate the catch. At least as soon as he could figure out how to preserve them and not cook them. At the very least, they'd have plenty of yummy fish for a day or two to eat.

The sudden over whelming aroma of the fish made her stomach growl hungry or not it smelt good. Coren took a few more steps before pausing... if it was a human camp what if they had weapons? She glanced around before picking up a near by stick. Least it formed a means of a shitty club.

She was close enough now that the blaze from the fire was easy seen along with the fish roasting there. Coren looked around more they must have been around the other side she was unable to see anyone maybe she would startle them and they would run off...

With a nod she jumped into the clearing waving her stick around...

Alex was on the opposite side of the fire, as Coren leaped forth from the bushes. In his beak, he was tugging off some more fish meat while frying some of the fish, making sure it didn't get burned. As he looked up at the noise, and over top the fire, he just shrugged and waved a hand, the fish still being held in his beak.

It took only a second for him to take the fish on a stick from his beak, so he could speak. "Oh, hey Coren. Uh... what's with the stick?", he inquires of her, before shrugging. "Going to rob me of my fish? Uh, well, you can have some if you want, without the clubbing me part that might have been in the plans there."

He shrugged and tossed the mostly eaten fish on a stick back onto the fire and smiled. "Pull up a rock, or bush, or whatever", motioning for Coren to sit down, and take some of the fish that was cooking.

Coren's jaw dropped open as she looked at Alex still holding her weak excuse for a club at the ready. She sighed then shrugged, "Im not sure what my plan was..." She laughed dropping the stick at the edge of the woods and walked over.

"You ever think the smell might lure something you don't want?" She was sure she wasn't gonna beat Alex with a stick.. that was as long as he behaved he was starting to look pretty weird.

She sat down and glanced around for a bit.

The half gryphonic pilot shrugged a bit, "Well you know, I doubt the wildlife is in the mood to brave a fire for some food. Plus, the river is full of fish. I'm sure anything out there that isn't a bear is out catching fish or getting the ones that die off. So yeah... I think we're ok." He picked up another stick that had a fried fish on it and offered it to Coren.

"So, just trying to get familiar with the forest?", he inquired, while he turned his attention to taking off any other fish on a stick that might be done, from the fire, and putting them aside for later. "You know, it wouldn't be so bad if folks did follow their nose to here. I might get to talk with them more than just showing them where stuff is or how to get get around."

He reaches over and takes one of the cooling fish from the blanket, and starts to take a few bites from it. "Plus, I think I caught too much fish anyways...", he says, motioning with the stick at all the cooking fish.

Cecil had made a teepee-like refuge underneath a neat row of large sticks leaned against- and around- a tree trunk. There was about enough room for him sitting, and he could lie down if he curled up tightly enough.

He called it the "Eeyore house" because every time he so much as moved, half of it would collapse.

It did when Cecil popped up from his nap. His nose had caught the scent of smoke. The vulpine-kid wasn't fully awake when he stood, nor was he when he started walking. His eyes were half shut and his mouth was agape- stuck on that face slumber.

He was sleepwalking- or to be more accurate- smellwalking.

His subconcious had led him over to Alex's campfire. The brush around the clearing rustled. Cecil wasn't quite there yet.

"maybe" She took the fish and took a bit just as good as it smelled that was for sure. "im wandering im not sure why...." She looked back the way she came, "i didn't feel right just sitting around that was for sure." She felt all the little scratches she had gained and rolled her eyes. "tho the woods seem to hate me."

When the bush rustled she jumped nearly half way outta her skin and flipped around holding the fish and stick out like a weapon of some sort.

Alex chuckled a bit and nodded. "I took quite a few hits from wayward tree limbs when I got here. Now, not so much. Probably a good thing, considering getting hit in the face involves getting his in this beak thing I've grown." He shrugged his little winglets and took another bite out of the fish, ripping the chunk free before swallowing it.

It was true. Alex hadn't been quite so bad off with getting hit with tree limbs, since his last change. He wasn't sure if maybe he'd just gotten used to the forest, was more at ease with the place, or just that he was having better luck. He poked the fire with his fish on a stick, stoking the coals a bit to make sure they stayed hot, while also causing the bits of fish on the stick to glow with flame licking across it. At least it would be a bit crispier, and the pilot didn't mind, as he tried to blow out the flame on the fish.

While he was distracted with putting out his fish, Coren jumped up beside him. The pilot looked at her, then turned his head to blow out one last bit of flame from the fish. "Uh, I'd ask if you had one too many cups of coffee today, but I don't think there's any coffee to be had around here", he joked, wondering what had Coren so jittery.

The rustling continued, get closer to Alex and Coren until Cecil fell out from the brush behind the two. He was still sleeping physically, but his body was slowly limping towards the fire. He sniffed the air, and knelt down in front of the fire. A clawed hand stroked the flame. There was a smile on Cecil's sleeping face. His tails wagged.

He sat there, still in some entranced state.

"hell i wish i had coffee." She scratched her head lowering her fish only at the moment cecil feel into the clearing. Stepping back she fell over a lose rock that she hadn't noticed.

Rubbing her back side she watched Cecil "whats he doing?" She glanced over to Alex.

Alex raised an eyebrow as the sleepy Cecil stumbled and made his way towards the fire. "Uh..." When the fox hybrid leaned down and stroked the flame, he looked at Coren, then hopped up. "Woah... hold on there!"

The pilot moved over quickly to pull Cecil back a few steps, as to not have the sleeping Cecil set himself on fire. "Geez, get any closer and you'd be a fire fox. Uh... Cecil? Hey, you ok?", he asks as he holds the vulpine-ish person from getting his fur burned.

Cecil was still dazed when Alex pulled him back, but he was starting to wake up. His ears twinged. He got up slowly scanning his surroundings with a perplexed expression on his face. Cecil looked towards the fire and quickly backed away. Where did this come from? He was very confused. How in the world did he end up here? And was it this world? He wasn't in another world was he?

Cecil let out a breath of relief when he heard Alex. His vulpine parts relaxed, and he looked up to Alex,

Um, hey Alex, where am I?

He was leaning back when he jumped at the tiny sting of the burns on his hands. Cecil looked at his palm. There was a small sore on his pawhand. Touching fire like he had been doing would've given someone a third degree burn, yet it didn't seem to do anything to Cecil but give him a surprise wake-up gift.

Dusting her self off she went over to where both stood. "your in a camp, or that's what i would consider it." She glanced at the fish still safely roasting. "we almost had roasted fox for dinner rather then fish." She didn't mean to but her stomach growled the idea was a bit... enjoyable....

She laughed, "course you chose a bad way to get the fish... what were you doing?"
