You are entering the realm where Denian and Gabrielle grew up...

Denian was raised in a monastery. The monastery of Priest Francois. As all of the other monks there, he did not know anything about his family. He arrived there as a child before he could even walk. He had been there for four years when an event occurred in the monastery where nothing ever happened: a baby girl was found and strangely enough Priest Francois had decided to keep her.

Denian's curiosity led him to sneak in the Priest's quarters where he spent furtive minutes over the cradle watching the little creature asleep. But one day she opened her amber eyes and seeing him bent over her, the little baby started screaming and crying, bringing the old Priest to the room where he discovered Denian who was trying to calm the baby with great difficulty. That day Priest Francois charged Denian with the task to take care of the little girl named Gabrielle.

The two grew up together. Friendship and brotherhood bounds linked them quickly. They were relying on one another all the time. They were spending most of their time together. Denian was envied by the other monks. Despite her male clothes Gabrielle remained a girl.

Denian walked to the front of Gabrielle`s door and gave it a knock waiting for her to answer it so that they could do what the priest had told them to do."COME ON GABRIELLE WE GOTTA HURRY." Denian said with urgency in his voice.

Gabrielle adjusted her monk robe one last time, before opening the door. She smiled at Denian. "I am ready!" Her amber eyes were smiling, not that she wanted to work on what they had to for Priest Francois, but at least she was spending time with Denian. She had noticed that lately, their tasks seemed to keep them apart.

Denian was much taller than her. A full head. And he was older to. She was mostly still a child, starting to understanding the implication of her being a girl in a male monastery. But all the same, just a child.

Gabrielle grabbed his wrist and pulled him behind her. She chuckled and imitated his voice. "WE GOTTA HURRY!" Her dark hair floated behind her and she ran in the halls.

Denian laughed softly as he got dragged. Deanian being behind Gabrielle seeing her hair flow bruaght a smile to his face and his eyes as they headed to go to the back of the monastary where the wood was to gather and stock it he allowed his mind to wonder as they reached their destination he stoped and stoped her and said. "Gabrielle tonight i have to show you something i have been working hard on it but first lets get this wood choped and stacked!" Having said this Denian went and picked up a axe and put a log on the choping block and choped in in half with one strike he looked at Gabrielle waiting for her to go and get some more logs for him to chop.

As Gabrielle felt the pressure of Denian's hand putting both of them at a halt, she turned to him with an inquisitive look. Before she asked, he spoke. She was about to mention the fact that they were not suppose to leave their rooms after sunset, but how would that matter anyway. There was something strange in Denian's expression which she tried to understand. She was about to push him to the side and tease him about being so serious but he was already chopping the wood.

Gabrielle stacked the wood in silence next to the young man. Then she decided that she would chop it too. Putting a log on a second chopping block, she discretely removed a wakizashi from under her robe. She took a deep breath and raised her sword before chopping the log in two, using the wind. She giggled.

Denian watching Gabrielle having so much fun in having such a simple task done with her ability to control wind it was amazing. Denian sat down his axe and walked over to Gabrielle and stood infront of her to prevent her from cutting anymore and he raised a finger to his mouth indicating that she should be quiet after this was done Denian put his left hand over the palm of his right hand and there was a twinkle in his eye as lighting started to dance inbetween his hand for Gabrielle knowing that she would love the show.

Gabrielle smiled as he prevented her from cutting more wood. She looked at the ballet of light in front of her eyes. She was truly impressed by how he could play with lightening. She had not developed this ability herself and she was somehow scared of playing with these electrical charges. But she pushed him aside. "This might be pretty but this is useless." she told him, nose up. The truth was that she was jealous and did not want to show how impressed she was. She put her short sword back under her robe and gathered more wood for him to cut. "Let's finish this task." She knew that Denian would be frustrated but he would have to deal with it.

Gabrielle made it to the Monastery. She did not know how but she remembered that after days of walk and blood loss, she reached the walls. Or rather something that looked like a creature reached the walls. One of the older monks recognized her immediately and literally carried her to what used to be her bedroom. The Knight's left arm had strange ton to it and was hanging lifeless along her side. She managed a weak smile to the man before collapsing on the bed.

She drifted in a nightmarish dream. She was dying, she was killing. Dimitri was but a corpse in her arms. In her sleep tears were rolling along her pale cheeks. She looked more dead than alive. But she was not in the room anymore, therefore she could not hear the whispers of the monks gathering at her door. Some knew her, others had heard of her. The Girl. The one raised among them.
Gabrielle was with Dimitri. His arms, his eyes, his lips. The softness and yet, blood...blood everywhere. Her lips were moving in her sleep. Her hands were flapping the air as if trying to catch something.

The monk who carried her to the room, came back, dismissing the other monks and bringing the Father with him. "What do you think Father?" asked the older man. The Father closed the door before answering and walked to her bed. He grabbed her wrists, noticed the left arm with a disgusting grin. Observed her eyes and lips and sighed. "This does not look good." He looked at the woman. He was new there, he was the ones who heard about her but never met her. The Old Monk on the other hand remembered the adolescent full of life. "We need to do something Father." The Father nodded. "Yes we do..." and he left the room.

Outside of the monastery, a rather portly dwarf trotted down the dirt road towards the modest house of worship. This aged veteran was clad in thick stonemeld armor with a large robe situated over the top of it, decorated ornately with numerous runes and symbols. His beard was a fiery red mane, trimmed neatly but very lengthy and bound in more than one clasp that led down to his belt line. On top of all his other curious features, he also carried in his right grip his trusted hammerstaff, adorned with the symbols of three of the gods of the dwarven pantheon: Duloc, Murgoth and Valdicia.

The rotund little man may not seem overly imposing, which is quite the unusual for any of the dwarven race, however, "Big Grim" Alesong was no ordinary dwarf.

The dwarf reached the wooden door of the monastery and with his hammerstaff, he rapped it solidly three times then with a gruff voice, he shouted out,
"Oi! You lads aren't gonna keep yer doors shut to a tired traveler now are ye?"

Only a few moments later the door came open and a monk looked outside, seeing no person staring back at them.

"Oi! Down here, ya bleedin' sod!"

"Master Grimmand!" The monk known as Kierdran said with some authentic joy though a hidden sense of dread was in his voice, even so, Grimmand seemed to ignore it.

"Bwahaha! Aye, it's good ta see ye as well, Kierdran, ye old codger, you. I'm on me way ta the Holy City on official business from the King o' Proudanvil 'imself. I figured I'd drop in and see how the lot o' ye are doin'."

"You came for more of our wine, didn't you?"

"Bwahaha! Ye got me. Though truth be told I did miss the place, lad. Ye've gotten a great bit older than the last time you and I met, aye?"

"Sadly, humans aren't quite as blessed with longevity as yourself, master dwarf."

"Ain't that the ruddy truth? Bwahaha!"

"You certainly are in a good mood."

"And ye certainly be hidin' somethin' from ol' Grim, aye?"

Kierdran's eyes widened for only a split second, but it told the deceivingly perceptive dwarf all he needed to know.

"Aright, what's goin' on then, eh?"

"It does not concern you, my friend."

"Oh? That so? Don't suppose you'd mind if I crafted a truth tellin' rune right here an' bloody now an' see if that's a fact?"

Again, the monk faltered.

"A young woman was found today, badly injured," he conceded at last," We are uncertain if she will survive... but we are uncertain also of what she is afflicted with."

The dwarf pulled a wooden pipe from the folds of his robe, stuffed some tobacco within it and with one finger he conjured a small flame and lit it, inhaling deeply before exhaling a small puff of smoke.

"Take me to 'er, lad. Duloc willin', I'll find out what's wrong with her."

The Old Monk stayed at Gabrielle's side, holding her hand. Emilien was his name. He was now old, he was already old when Gabrielle was an adolescent and some wondered how with such an age the man had such strength. The man was softly whispering, prayers and songs to the young woman. When a footstep was echoing in the hallway he was raising hopeful eyes to the door. But no help came. He had no healing abilities. He felt useless and somehow he knew that very few would be done for her.
"If only Priest Francois had been here..." he whispered in his short white beard. He could not avoid a tear to appear in the corner of his eyes.

The Father exited the room scratching his head. He had to help her surely. But she had been but trouble. He did not want her back.
She's gonna be but a distraction to the monks... he thought as he went back to the small room which was his office. He closed the door and walked from one wall to the other.
Plus we don't know what she has...maybe she's cursed...a girl raised in a monastery can only bring evil with her... maybe it's contagious...

Father Bertrand had taken his decision even before leaving the bedroom where Gabrielle was laying. He would provide her with the minimum. But he did not want to risk his monks around this female creature. He sent the order that no one should approach the room.

Gabrielle seemed more quiet. The feeling of a bed was soft and welcome. The hand around her wrist was like an anchor pulling her softly back to reality. But she was too tired, too tired to be conscious, to tired to speak. The visions seemed fuzzier and her hands stopped moving. Sweat was on her forehead but the tears had stopped. Black came to her mind, she was at least asleep.

Old Emilien dared a pale smile when he felt the woman relaxing. He wondered why no help came. That was until two foot steps came closer. The discreet one of a monk accompanied by a heavier foot which he was unfamiliar with.

As Kierdran led the pair down another set of hallways, they finally stopped at a door that had apparently been warded off from visitation.

Do all those o' yers what get injured be treated in such a manner? Thought the dwarf, though he wouldn't say it out loud.

The monk opened the doorway and inside they went, spotting another elderly monk standing beside the girl's bed.

"Kierdran," said the aged one beside the bed, "Who is this and why have you brought him here?"

Before the younger monk could respond to the abbot, the dwarf forced his own entry into the conversation.

"I'm surprised none o' yer other monks have told ye o' my two visits 'ere in times past. The name's Grimmand Alesong, though most just call me 'Big Grim'."

"I'm sorry, but why exactly are you here... and could you please not smoke in this room?"

Giving a frustrated glare at first but followed by a chuckle, the dwarf tapped out the little remaining tobacco in his pipe and then stashed it back within the folds of his robe.

"I be a runepriest, lad. No ordinary one either. Personal guard o' the King o' Proudanvil 'imself; an' I'm here because Kierdran here told me ye were out of options when it came ta this young lass here."

"Gabrielle does not need the aid of foreign magics to--"

"Father Emilien, trust me, while... eccentric, his powers are very potent. Please allow him to do his work."

With a triumphant glare that faded in an instant, the short and stocky priest made his way to the young woman's bed.

"Mmm...," he said, inspecting the wound on her arm," Aye. It be poison alright, a very rare one and far along its process... But there's something else with her. The poison that causes this kind o' weakness and paralysis does not cause the skin to turn this pale and gray-"

As his hands moved along her shoulders, they ran across two vertical bite-marks.

"Victim of a vampire to eh? My this girl keeps some interestin' company. Aright, I'll patch 'er up in a minute."

"How? How can you accomplish the task in such a short span of time when we were not able to even discern what was ailing her?"

The dwarf rolled back his sleeves, revealing three runes tattooed on either arm, saying nothing further, he produced from his robes a stick of charcoal. With it in hand, he began drawing on the arm where the poison had entered.

In a matter of five minutes, the miniature drawing on her flesh was completed. The rune represented a composite figure of a dwarven face mixed with that of the bark of a tree. The rune began to glow a bright gold.

"Duloc's Touch! Lifegiver, remove the poison that wracks this poor girl's body! "

If ye could do somethin' bout her bein' a vamp an' all, that'd be bloody aright too... He muttered under his breath.

The rune nearly became too bright to observe. However, Grim wasn't phased.
The light died down though the rune remained, pulsing softly. Her complexion was becoming slightly rosier than before, though the dwarf noticed her bite marks were still very much present.

"The poison'll be gone within the hour. I'll be in the main hall. Tell yer lads I like my wine with more wine served with it. You chuffin' manlings' brew is too sweet, can't pass fer dwarven ale, but with enough o' the stuff, I can put that aside."

With that remark, the dwarf rolled his sleeves back down, picked up his hammerstaff once more and began walking towards the great hall.

Emilien's fists clenched for a second. They did not need him. The Holy Healing would help Gabrielle. But why had no one come? Why? Did Father Bertrand?! The old Monk felt tired. So the help would come from a stranger. They were in the House of God and the one who dared helping the Holy Knight was a dwarf with no manners. Emilien brought his hands together and closed his eyes. He would trust the Master Dwarf. He would try to help with his prayers. If Kierdran trusted him and if Grim's steps led him to that room, then he would trust too.

When the dwarf used his magic and runes to heal Gabrielle Emilien was impressed. Kierdran had not lied. The Master Dwarf was strong and the Holy Knight's only hope in this Monastery which once used to welcome the woman in its walls.

Emilien's self control broke down when the word 'vampire' escaped from Grim's mouth. "A vampire...!? No that cannot be...not Gabrielle...she is..." His eyes were hoping that the dwarf would say something like 'joking!' but nothing came. The old monk crossed himself several times. "She cannot stay here." he was torn between the love he had for the woman and his faith. But he was too old to be torn for long. "If they learn..." he whispered. "They will kill her." he finished before the dwarf left.

Even Kierdran had raised his hand to his mouth and stepped back when Grim announced that she had been bitten by a vampire. He looked at the door. It was closed. Kierdran had respect and esteem for both Father Emilien and Big Grim and this is why he stayed quiet. When Emilien voiced aloud what Kierdran was thinking, the latter nodded and confirmed. "She had to leave as soon as possible."

When the dwarf left, both monks looked at each other. "I will tend to Big Grim and prepare food for travel." offered Kierdran. "We must hurry. Big Grim said in one hour, the poison will be gone." The monk left the room, half running. Emilien looked at the woman. "But even with the poison gone she would not be able to travel by herself...and I am too old. God help us. Help her."

Gabrielle's face seemed in peace, some colors had come back but around the bite mark, her skin was still grey. Emilien did not lose time. He put a bandage around her neck and shoulder, hiding the bite mark. He had also noticed her arm, she probably had a broken bone. He tied pieces of wood around her arm to maintain the bones in place.

A knock at the door and a tall shadow entered, Father Bertrand stepped in. "How is she?" he asked. But his voice showed that he did not care.
"She is doing alright." lied Emilien.
"Fine. You will be the only one attending to her. No one else is allowed in that room." with no other instruction Father Bertrand left the room for the great hall. he is hiding something...

Kierdran did his best to sneak out food and wine while serving wine, wine...and more wine to Big Grim. When Father Bertrand appeared in the Great Hall, Kierdran disappeared. The tall Priest walked to the dwarf. "Who are you?" he asked without showing any mark of respect or politeness.

In the mean time in the room, Gabrielle seemed to emerge from sleep. "D...i..mitri..." she whispered. Emilien bent over the woman. "Gabrielle...this is Emilien...there is not Dimitri..." Gabrielle opened her eyes. Her vision was blurred and her voice was but a whisper. "Em...ilien..." she smiled weakly. "I am sorry...for the trouble..." she tried to sit on the bed but she was too weak and she immediately felt pain in her left arm. Slowly she was gathering herself and her memories. A flash brought her right hand to her left shoulder and the bandage. She looked at Emilien. He knew. "Do not worry my Child. Your secret is safe with me." Gabrielle nodded. "I am sorry to impose that burden on you...you always have been so kind to me..."

Grimmand Alesong glanced up from his mug for a moment to regard the tall man who had addressed him.

With a sudden tug, he slammed his emptied drink onto the wooden table and let out a loud belch.

"Geh, pardon me, lad. It's better ta get it out early than ta let it sit and wait fer later... Oh an' to answer yer question: The name's Grimmand Alesong, folks call me Big Grim if ye get ta know me."

"And what might I ask are you doing here.... drinking what I believe to be a large portion of our wine stores?"

"Meh, I've visited this chuffin' monastery twice in the past and ye've never run across me till now, I always bring good tidin's from Proudanvil. This time, I jes happened ta be in the right place at the right time. Saved the poor lass in that room's life naught but a few minutes afore I began enjoyin', or at least tryin' ta enjoy," he said with added disdain from being interrupted in this activity," my drinking."

"Saved her life?" Bertrand repeated aloud.

"Are ye bloody deaf? Aye! I fixed her up fine... for now," though he added the last part at a tone too low for the monk to hear, as the cure for vampirism was not within his power to achieve.

"How long do you intend to stay here...?"

"Ah, there's the question ye were wanting ta ask me ever since ye floated yer bleedin' way in here," he chuckled then downed another mug of wine before slamming it onto the table beside the other," I'll be gone in an hour, I jes wanna make sure all the poison's outta the girl's system afore I leave."

The tall priest grumbled but said nothing more.
