Google Chrome (Stable) has been Relesed for Windows Xp / Vista (ok don't Stop reading this yet) and a linux / Mac OS Version is in the works, it uses apple webkit (if I am Correct) and is said to be faster than Firefox 3, Safari, and of course Internet Explorer. Also I believe its open-source under the BSD License .

Linux Builds Available at the Devloper Channel here is the link to the Chromium Blog post. http://blog.chromium.org/2009/06/danger-mac-and-linux-builds-available.html
"How incomplete [Is the Developer Preview]? So incomplete that, among other things , you won't yet be able to view YouTube videos, change your privacy settings, set your default search provider, or even print.

Meanwhile, we'll get back to trying to get Google Chrome on these platforms stable enough for a beta release as soon as possible!"

BTW, Update August 5 09: The More or less recent update has some support for plug-ins (Kinda)

I've used it on my windows partition before, and it is indeed very fast when compared side by side with Mozilla, However, I much rather prefer the add-ons available for Mozilla. I think there was a CodeWeaver's version for Linux...

According to Chromes about tab, run it in VMs and when I am forced to use windows, it uses WebKit and KHTML. For being Beta it is a great browser, the only time I heard of it crashing is when trying to run it through a remote connection, then it crashes with a great error window:

"Opps Google Chrome has crashed... s**t!"

and of course it sends backtrace info back to Google if you opted to do so when you download it. One thing I like about it better than Firefox is when reporting a incompatible webpage, on top of making you fill in all the details there is a checkbox where you can tell it to take a screen shot and send it along with our report (good if the page has some long error message you don't feel like typing in or can't explain how the page is messed up).

Yes Google Chrome is open source but to a limit, it is currently licensed under the BSD Protective license. Also from Googles blogs the Linux and Mac port is under way, but the reason it is taking so long is because of one of the functions used by Chrome, winhttp stack, they are having problems recreating this on Linux and Mac and announced they may need to do a rewrite so that no version uses this. Until then Codeweavers has a less superiour port, and I think you can get it to run in Wine.

Yesterday The Chromium Team Released Chrome (Dev Preview) for Linux and Mac OS X.

You gotta get through a maze first in order to get it but here is the link to the Chromium Blog post. http://blog.chromium.org/2009/06/danger-mac-and-linux-builds-available.html
