Fried Rice.

Oops, that was on my clipboard. lol

Anyway, by request of colonel chic, I'm posting my Tales of Symphonia fics, which I've never posted. The first I will poAste is a Desian Cardinal fanfic, and we follow Forcy as he goes through the makings of a Cardinal.

FYI, this is shortly after he's known for killing off the human massacre-ists. Cruxis enlists him to be a Grand Cardinal, and the following chapters begin his story.

I will post a new chapter on a separate thread, for easier reading enjoyment and easier commenting.

Now, let us begin.

<><>

Disclaimer: Forcy, Iselia Ranch, and Desians belong to Namco. *breaks nearest object*

Chapter One -

“Lord For---”

“Huh?” Forcystus stood up from his squat and turned around.

The Desian mage took a step backward. “I’m sorry for interrupting, but I was wondering, Lord Forcystus, if some of us could have your autograph…”

His eye widened a bit, a playful grin pasted on his face. “Lord? Autograph?”

“Y-yes sir. There have been rumors that you, the Great Hero Forcystus, is going to be managing a human ranch, and would be a Grand Cardinal,” the Desian mage looked down sheepishly and made circles on the dirt with his foot. “So, if some of us don‘t get transferred to your ranch, we were thinking of requesting an autograph…”

“Er…sure,” Forcystus brushed the dirt off his clothes. “If you guys want, yeah, sure.”

The mage’s expression widened into a smile as he took out some blank cards from his pocket. “Oh, thank you, thank you! We half-elves love you! You’re our hero---”

“Heh heh, that’s enough, you guys give me too much credit…”

“No, but really, you’re amazing---”

“That’s enough, I said…!” he joked and motioned for a pen, and the mage searched through his pockets to find one. After doing so, Forcystus began to sign through the cards, using the ground as a table (it wasn’t easy to stoop down and sign with a cannon).

“Ah yes, Lord---”

The hero looked up. “Forcystus is fine.”

“Erm…well, Forcystus…may I ask why you are here in the Iselia Forest?”

“Well…” he began to sign off the remaining cards. “The rumors are true. I’ve been offered Grand Cardinal position by Cruxis. They had told me that the next ranch was to be built here. And, hoping that this will better lead to the end of discrimination against half-elves, I‘ve joined his cause and I‘m looking around at the territory where the new ranch is going to be.”

“Ah, so this is where the new ranch is going to be.”

“Yep. Close to Iselia.”

The mage looked skyward. “It’s close to where the Chosen One is supposed to originate.”

“True that---it‘s why it‘s being built here. We‘re going to make sure that the journey for the Chosen is difficult, but successful, and hopefully, putting a ranch close to her location will make monitoring her easier.” And with that, he handed the cards and the pen to the mage. He received them gratefully and put them in his pocket.

“Ah, but you won’t get as much glory as a hero, Lord Forcystus---you‘ll be working under Cruxis.”

“I don’t search for glory,” Forcystus answered, getting up. “I search for a world where we half-elves have a right to live. If it means to take sacrifices, I am willing to take that for those who will live in the future generation. Half-elves are a creation of two races that hate us, and yet, we’re a part of both. We shouldn’t hate ourselves---shouldn’t we instead look down upon them for hating that part of us that is a part of them as well?”

For a minute Forcystus felt a bit noble. These words were just flying out of his mouth.

Maybe it was the momentum of things?

“Ah, Lor---Forcystus, what amazing words!” the mage seemed to revel at his words, also. “You look fresh in youth, and yet your words carry wisdom mine could never fathom to hold.”

“Heh…” despite his modesty, Forcystus was liking the wave of compliments. But if only they knew that his actions weren’t noble in the least…in fact, they were impulsive and insistent of revenge---definitely something that wasn’t fit to be heroic.

It was just his hatred for humanity that fueled him. He only wished he was noble enough to mean what he said. If he was, maybe the loss of his eye and arm could have meant more.

The half-elf hero hoped he would find what he really felt as a Grand Cardinal. He didn’t really know what the Desians were to do besides make the Chosen‘s journey more difficult, but being called upon by Cruxis must have meant that his job was a good one.

“Ah, and, um, Forcystus?” the mage seemed much more confident now.

“…yeah?”

“I have a daughter. I am a half-elf, her father, and her mother is a half-elf as well. My daughter seems about your age…”

The Cardinal furrowed his eyebrows. “Exactly what are you implying?”

“Ah---um…my wife and I were considering on finding her a---”

“Uh-uh…!” Forcystus shook his head violently, not even wanting to hear the outcome. “Don’t look at me.”

“But please---”

“Like you said, I’m really young---too young to settle down,” Forcystus tried to explain this as calmly as he could. “And don’t ask me to hook her up with any other of the Cardinals---because, as far as looks go, it‘s all downhill after that. And I‘m missing an eye and an arm; your little girl is definitely not going to like that.”

“N-no, you don’t understand---”

Forcystus cut him off again with a fierce wave of his cannon arm. “Yo, please, I signed your autographs, I’m your hero, so on, so forth---but your daughter---that is beyond me. I‘m not going to become a son-in-law.”

“Please! Hear me out!”

Forcystus sighed. “All right, what? What is it I don’t understand so much?”

It was a moment before the mage could regain confidence to even speak with the hero. “…I was wondering if you help us find her a job in your ranch. She hasn‘t been able to find any place to work, and she‘s really insistent on getting a job. The other Cardinals say they have enough people as it is, and since no one‘s being appointed to you yet, I was hoping you could find her a position in your ranks.”

It was quiet. Forcystus was minutes from kicking himself. Why did he always jump to conclusions? Finally, after a long pause, he sighed.

“Okay, what‘s your name and ranch?”

“Ah,“ the mage straightened his stance. “Vince. Remote Island. You know, the one looked over by Rodyle.”

“Rodyle…?” it irked Forcystus to even try and remember. He barely remembered any of the Cardinals except Pronyma. And he just remembered her because, well…she was pretty. She seemed pretty nice, too, at least, as far as he could see.

But her outfit…especially that gigantic hovering device, was a bit…let’s just say he was worried about what his outfit had in store for him. Were they all that ridiculous? The squinty Cardinal he also met that day looked like a space cadet.

Suddenly, he heard the mage speak.

“You haven’t met the other cardinals yet?” Vince, the mage, asked, staring at his baffled expression.

Forcystus blinked a few times before answering. “Oh yes, I have, I just don’t remember them.” This he admitted with a grin. “Okay then, Vince of Remote Island, I’ll see to it next time I go to Cruxis that I find a job for your daughter.”

He could see the fanboy demeanor jerking a smile on Vince‘s face. “Ah, thank you Lord Forcystus for ev---”

“That’s enough…!”

OH MAH GAWD.

I LOVE YOU.

and this too. (hey that rhymed! )

Anyway, i suggest using a little bit less dialog, even though it was funny, and a little bit more subtext, seeing as how it's a bit confusing in parts. But anyway, it's good.

along with feedback. (Feedback=good, bashing=not good.)

The second chapter is mostly narration.

I keep thinking that it might be too much narration ^^;

less dialog=better for me, since that way, if i miss any dialog, it won't matter, since there isn't much.

You know, what I hate about forums is that it butchers off all those lovely tabs that you put so much effort into typing so as to make the dialogue easy to understand.

With tabs, dialogue gets exciting.

But then that means you'll enjoy the second chapter :3

Oh, no, I meant typical tabs, like the kind that you use in word processing and separates things into paragraphs.

Ah, yeah, it's annoying without those.

I think I'm gonna have to resort to doing return key after every paragraph...

But anyway, chapter two should be coming soon.
I'm sort of halfway done.

The style I use in fanfics is more casual---and when I post The Druid Saga sometime (my gigantic saga), you'll see how the context changes drastically biggrin

Man, I loved this. ♥
SILLY FORCYSTUS, THE PEEPS LOVE YOU, BUT NOT ENOUGH TO MARRY YOU.
YOU DUMB FACE.
;w;

I demand more with an iron skillet. (For some odd reason, despite this being about Forcystus, I want to draw/write s**t about Regal. Or play the game for that matter. Hrm.)

Thank you for making me giggle at Vince's bashful nature towards the chunk of manriness we know as Forcystus, I always forget that he's a hero to them half-elves. By the way, I don't know if I'm spoiling anything or not, but didn't he die in the first episode of the animu? D: AND IF HE DID THEN HOW THE HELL DO THEY TIE IN THE GAMEPLAY WHATNOT. UGH. M'brain.

=] DUMB FORCYSTUS INTENDED AND SUCCESSFUL!
I always thought of him as a Desian LLoyd, I don't know why. O_o

Regal is fun, though the origins of his interesting attire are questionable. And yes, I think you can pacify some of that with gameplaying. ^^

IRON SKILLET! biggrin

Well, at first, I had doubts over Forcy's death in the first episode. I don't know if he died or was just badly wounded. What I WAS surprised at, though, was that none of the Desians ran to him or anything, like they did in the game. By their reaction, we would be able to tell if he survives or not.

Then, as I was reading the Tales manga, it turned out that Forcystus died---kabam. He never comes back in that version. From what I know of, the anime goes the same path the manga does, so judging by that, I guess Forcy does die.

But yeah, that's where the storyline thing gets in the way. But at the same time, it makes no sense for another reason.

In the manga, the story ends at Torrent Forest, where Lloyd battles it out with Kratos over Origin.

Does that mean that's where the anime ends, too?
That must also mean that the Tower of Salvation being destroyed, and so on so forth, happen AFTER Torrent Forest, so they're not shown.

Which is pretty messed up.

Regardless, if he does come back into the OVA, then YAY, but if he doesn't, I will teardrop. sad

Forcystus...

He had a suffocating ego in both the game and the OVA.

But you make him sound so...Lloyd-like that it makes me feel better about him.
