Benjamin Goes Home.

Benjamin Goes Home.

At 6:48 pm Thursday, September the fourth at 39 seconds past the minute, while Benjamin T. Anderson was walking across the pedestrian crossing at Barker and Lemar, a car horn blared very loudly. This is vitally important later on. First let us rewind a little.

At 6:48 pm Thursday, September the fourth at 37 seconds past the minute Benjamin T. Anderson was thinking about many things while trying to make his way back to his apartment on the North side of Austin, Texas. It was a fairly average day for Benjamin so far, and so it was a rather good day up until this point.

He, like nearly everyone else in the world on that Thursday, had many troubles on his mind as he traversed the long concrete side walks. His work was very stressful. His girlfriend had a birthday coming up and he hadn't purchased a present for her yet. He was also very hungry and hadn't eaten anything since 11:56 am that day. All these things kept his mind rather full as he walked and he failed to appreciate the day.

It was a lovely day actually, so it's really a shame that Benjamin did not appreciate it.

Benjamin was, in the grand scheme of things, a fairly average man. He had brown hair, brown eyes, A+ blood and enjoyed time at the beach. He had always wanted to go to Hawaii, but never had. Right now, as it were, he wanted to be back at his apartment and eat, perhaps, a cheese sandwich and the half bottle of diet cola that had lost all its carbonation already.

As Benjamin T. Anderson stepped across the cross walk at the intersection of Barker lane and Lamar Boulevard something happened. It's hard to say just what occurred. Maybe for a second it was simply that the world forgot he was there. Maybe everyone he ever knew was thinking about something else all at once and the whole world simply forgot Benjamin's existence on the 38th second past the minute.

And so the second between the 37th and 39th passed, and he was forgotten by everyone. A car horn blared.
Benjamin stopped.

It occurred to him that Benjamin couldn't remember where he was going. This confused him. He was sure that just a few seconds ago he knew exactly where he was headed. He frowned, puzzled. He tried to think back on where he was coming from, or even what he had been thinking about, but his memory pulled up only blanks.

“Excuse me, sir.” A Voice said from behind him. “What is the matter?”

“I can't remember where I was going.” Benjamin replied, and turned to face The Voice.

“Well.” said The Voice. “Where would you like to go?”
Benjamin thought about that. Oddly enough, he couldn't think of anywhere. He couldn't name anywhere he had been, or could remember a place he wanted to go. “Well,” Benjamin pondered aloud “I suppose I would like to Go Home.”

The person nodded once and held out their hand. “I can take you there.” said The Voice. Benjamin thought to himself how odd it was that he couldn't tell if this person was a man or a woman, the color of their hair, the shape of their face or even the tone of their skin. But Benjamin supposed that it didn't really matter. He did have the impression that the person was incredibly beautiful though.

“You can take me Home?” He asked.

“Of course.” said The Voice. Benjamin believed him, though he could not say why.

Benjamin took the person's hand. It occurred to him vaguely that he wasn't standing on Lamar anymore, though what a Lamar was he couldn't be sure either.

“What is your name?” Benjamin asked.

“It doesn't matter what you call me,” The person said with a warm smile. “As long as you believe me, I'll take you home.”

And so at 6:48 pm Thursday, September the fourth at 40 seconds past the minute by western calculations, Benjamin T. Anderson went home
