Well, a lot of the books that have crossed over have being romantic in nature. Some of better quality than others... rolleyes
Moreover, for my English high school class I remember watching a film version of "1984," which was terrible! And thinking about it "1984" is a horrible choice for film adaptation because the entire book is just Wilson's thoughts. There is little character interaction, some memories have no sense of time (which is of course part of the authors point, but hard to illustrate in film) and Wilson's own thoughts are generally repetitive except for some small detail in each retelling of them. Another book that I think you would encounter the same problems is "Notes from the Underground."
