Kore did not noticed as Heliacle had stopped prancing around. She did not see her friend lay down in the tall meadow grass and begin to doze off. Instead, Kore had her eyes closed and was enjoying the cool breeze that had picked up. Still half-jumping and half-flying, Kore took a bound in the air....

And she landed on top of Heliacle. Golden eyes popping open, Kore opened her mouth and quickly began to apologize.

~ A soundless gasp escaped her-absolutely taken by surprise. Talk about rude awakening! The panic quickly passes when she soon comprehends it's Kore-the rest of the night now fresh in her memory. Not paying attention to the other 'griff's burst of apologies, Hel laughs softly, shaking her head-

"Why?" she asks in a calm, but slightly shy voice. What an odd question-what could anyone really answer? Hel's mane plumage ruffle slightly, as it had done earlier-a faint smile pasted on her visage, it being perticularly obvious in her darkening teal eyes~

Still on top of Heliacle, Kore's amber gold eyes stared into her friend's teal eyes. She had tried to move off of her friend and instead had tangled their legs and wings even more. And then Heliacle asked her, 'why'?

Kore tried to sit up but it wasn't working that well. Her ears laid back in embarrassment, she spoke in a rushed voice. "Because I jumped on you and squished you."

~ There's a weak spark in her eye as she's slightly amused-but tries not to show it so not to embarass Kore more than she already is.

"Jumped on me-yes," She keeps the weak smile," but to squish me-I dont think so." She then encourages her plumage to tousle even more-" I'm tougher than that." Her own ears p***k upwards-much like the panic-stricken hare she caught that other day. Seeing Kore struggle, she helps a bit-

"Wait now," she delicately throws a leg over Kore's-untwisting the wings-with a bit of a fight,"-There we are..." She remains sprawled on the ground in a non elegant kind of way-also not caring. Eye contact undisturbed-another moment of silence slips in... ~

Kore sat very still as Heliacle began to untangle herself. Maroon legs disengaged from amethyst ones and soon wings were back to their proper position. The only thing left tangled were their tails... Not that Kore minded.

Kore sat watching the fireflies go into a frenzied dance around them. Heliacle looked very pretty in the light of the stars and the little star cousins. Head feathers rising a little, Kore cleared her throat. "Thank you Heliacle. We do not need to go and get hurt when we both have little brothers to take care of..."

She moved forward a little, then hesitated. Should she? With a small chirp, Kore rubbed Heliacle's cheek with her own.

~ She chuckles at Kore's words and begins to speak,

"I doubt we'd-" However her own words are then swallowed as the midnight mauve 'griff suddenly is rather very close-and much in contact with her. Teal eyes grow wide for a short moment-but then flutter shut as a rolling chirp escapes her own throat, returning the gesture and giving an affectionate nuzzle ~

Kore would have been as red as the apples in the trees if griffs could blush. Instead, she gave sort of a trill of pleasure and happiness. Most comfortable, Kore did not move from her friend's side. By now, the moon had risen to its zenith and the fireflies were settling on leaves and blooms around them.

"You look pretty with the stars and fireflies on you," Kroe blurted without thinking.

~ Being rather hidden from the world and it's ways- is also more comfortable than she thought she would be. Yes, her cheeks do feel as if they're burning up- but she doesn't feel the embarassment. Kore's trill only aggravates the churning and fluttering butterflies in her stomach.

"...Oh-" Hel was never used to compliments, however. And was rather silenced by them. Her eyes we're now to the moon.

"fireflies or none-" she starts, finally pulling her gaze from the white glowing disc, "you will always be as pretty as the stars themselves." admiring the golden speckles spread accross her stomach and chest-Different markings like her own, they indeed reminded her of the small parkling diamonds in that vast blue ocean. ~

"Thank you, Heliacle. I have never really paid any mind to how I look... I always thought that... My coloring was not particularly impressive. I can not wait to meet Elathan when he hatches. If his shell is any clue as to how he will look, he will be impressive."

Kore laughed at the thought. Staring up at the moon, she could make out some of the star patterns that the elders had told her about... She was eager to share and impress her friend. "Would you like to hear a star story?"

~ She nods as she listens carefully to Kore's words-Her colors may not be very impressive, but the fact she looks as if some fairy sprinkled some glow dust on her made it very different. The amethyst 'griff then goes on about Elathan-which made her thoughts go to Azhor which was indeed the odd colored specimen. She wasn't sure what to expect when he would hatch, which will hopefully be soon enough...

Her eyes light up as she's brought back to reality with Kore's question,
"Story of the stars..? Yes, please tell me." She moves a few inches closer to her friend, a bit of contact between their legs-her tail doesn't shed a clue that it wants to be freed from Kore's-but does sway very gently. The fireflies have calmed themselves completely, now resting on neerby grass blades and even on the 'griffs ~

Kore took a deep breath and looked up at the stars. She found familiar star patterns, the griffon and the horse. Smiling, she felt herself settling into what she called, elder mode. Her tail was firmly wrapped with Hel's tail; the fireflies had taken up residence on Kore and Heliacle.

"Once, long ago, before our kind had moved into the valley... We had to huddle on the edges of their territory. There was a griffon whose name was Stormwings. He was dark gray and when he fly it was like the storm had settled on earth. Not the dark and dangerous storms but the ones that brought soothing rains to help with growth."

Kore looked over to see how Heliacle was doing. This was one of her favorite tales but it was a little long. She moved her limbs so they did not go numb. "All the female griffons longed for him, to bear his children and make their clans stronger. He flew over the lands and would hunt for his clan but not a single female claimed his eye. One day, as he flew over the plains, Stormwings spotted a herd of horses. They were every color imaginable and some that were not known... Stormwings eyes lighted upon one mare in particular. She was the color of the red earth after a summer rain...."

~ She tilts her head, all ears-Hel listens. Her mind is already concocting images of the story-the details a bit vivid-but detailed enough. Horses and Griffons-terms she's heard before but has never actually seen. She's heard rumors, good and bad. Everyone having their own opinion...

Heliacle though Kore to be quite talented in story-telling. Probably learned from that elder she brings up now and then. "He must be so wise..." She thinks to herself. The male griffon in Kore's story sounded much like a strong warrior type-Hel liked him already. Especially for the fact that he wasn't easily satisfied. But to hear how he was attracted to an entirely different species! But then, a fact comes to mind as Hel looks to Kore-Species, gender... A grin of a smile appears on her face-though only for an instant. Her attention still on the midnight mauve 'griff and her tale.~

Kore closed her eyes as she began to imagine the tale in her mind. It was one of tragic love, of two different being caring for each other. Her wings flexed for a moment and continued her tale.

"This mare was called She-Flies-Across the Plains. She could run across the plains in a day while it took all others seven days. Her eyes were dark in color and her spirit wild and free. No stallion in her herd could tame her heart and she preferred it that way. And so, she would travel great distances to learn the land while the others would be ideal."

Kore look over at Heliacle and gave a shy smile. "Do you know what happened next?"

~ Subconsciously, her own wings follow the motion of Kore's. Heliacle cocks her head the other side, listening still- The mare sounds as if she is beauty incarnate. Both mind, spirit and even physique. If Hel could have chosen her personality-definitely she would be like She-Flies-Across-the-Plains...

She moves yet a few more inches to her companion-

"Tell me..." Hel says, just above a whisper. Though she smiles knowingly, certain she can predict the outcome of the story, she rather hear it from Kore. ~

The story was now in the middle, the most important part of the story. This was where the drama was starting up. Kore nodded and rubbed her head against Heliacle's. It was nice to have an audience for her story telling.

"They met as they both stopped for a drink. She was on one side of the pond and he the other. In the old days, griffins and horses were much larger than we are now. And Stormwings reflection stretched across the lake to met with She-Flies. When their reflections met, it was as if the reflections fell in love first. Already, their images on the pond and intertwined when Stormwings and She-Flies looked up and saw each other. In that instant, they knew that they had found the love and greatness that they had been looking for..."

Kore sighed, unable to comprehend such love but knowing that it had to exist because so many tales were about it. Her eyes were slightly moist with the thought of loving someone so much. Oddly enough, she thought of Heliacle when thinking of love.

"For the length of one moon cycle, day and night, She-Flies and Stormwings stayed in each other's company. He flying just above her as she thundered across the land. It was as if the fish had found its mate in the bird. But it was not to stay happy for long..."

~ Though she does have the ability to fly-running like the wind would be as fun, she's certain. Dashing and charging, surely Hel could catch those fireflies then! Love-she learned what "like" was-but love? A deeper and stronger meaning of the word? Hel-as Kore-cannot even begin to understand it. She's been acquainted with lust already-But that's a emotionless feeling. Or act, quite different than love. Love.

Heliacle's brow furrows as she sees the sudden peek of emotion in Kore's eyes- a sparkle that was not there a moment ago. She feels her beak quiver-unsure what to do. She's rather happy when her friend continues on with her story- avoiding the situation.

Her mood seems to be drained as the story goes on-growing somber it would seem. A hoof paws at the ground in front of her-imagination taking over, horrible scenes taking place in her mind. Shaking her head, Hel forces herself to concentrate on Kore's conclusion to the story, secretly hoping it's not too dark...~

Kore did not realize how intensely Heliacle was watching her. She was now in full elder mode, throwing herself and her emotions into the story. With just the right voice inflictions and body movements, Kore was bringing the very essence of the story to them. Even the fireflies seemed to be in tuned with the lesson.

"There was one stallion in the herd who refused to leave She-Flies alone. His name was Pale Moon for he was almost white in coloring. Though he was beautiful on the outside, his spirit was rotten on the inside. Pale Moon followed the object of his lust and discovered her with Stormwings. Angry at being turned down for one who was not even a horse, he raced back to the meeting place of all the herds and told them what he had seen."

Kore shook her head sadly. "And it was the same for the griffins. A female who was dark as the sky when the sun and moon met found Stormwings madly in love and abandoning their kind. Angry at being spurned as well, this female who name was Nightsinger rushed back to tell the clan elders and clan leader. It was war! Both sides prepared to do battle for the insult that each had felt because of true love."

~"Jealousy..." Hel spat the word out-her opinion of what's going on between the equine and griffins. Her brow still furrowed-though now it's more of frustration. She realizes she's been clenching her beak to a point where her jaw felt numb and slightly painful even-the story affecting her indeed. She almost forgot Kore was even telling it, so deep in imagination she was. All she was the tale characters-or so what she pictured them to look like.

She shifted her weight from time to time-finding her knees wanting to buckle. War she has never experienced-though crude drawings carved in wood and painted on rock were detail enough. "Jealousy brought by lack of understanding..." she thought to herself, looking far away-pass Kore. She could feel her soul tremble slightly-unsure if she likes this story or not-but her curiosity and hunger for knowledge kept her strong. Heliacle simply took a breath and swallowed the lump in her throat. She flexes her wings, one now rests on Kore-without Hel really noticing. ~

Kore was now fully into the story. She moved her legs back and forth to keep them from aching so much; she barely noticed as Heliacle rested upon her side.

"And so, on the wide open fields the two groups met and clashed. Hoof and claw, beak and mouth attacked each other in anger and fear. But Stormwings and She-Flies were no where to be found. Indeed, they were hiding the eggs that she had laid someplace safe from both groups. Saying tearful goodbyes to their offspring, the two raced back to the meadows. As they stood on a rock over looking the scene, horror was in their eyes when they witness blood being shed."

"Stop!" Cried out She-Flies-Across-the Plains. Looking at her beloved, she fled down to the battle scene.

"Stop!" Cried out Stormwings even as he flew off after his mate."

Kore yawned. The night was now waning even as her story was winding down to its end.

~ So much blood, Heliacle had crimson scenes flooding her mind. Love and hate together make a very nasty mix-that she knew, simply by common knowledge.

A yawn sneaks by her, being rather contagious-she shakes her head and blinks the weariness away,
"What happened...?" Hel spoke, cringing to hear it-certain something morbid is to follow. Her ears flatten as she awaits the rest of the story. She forgets about the moon, star and fireflies-having Kore alone in mind. Aside from the darkening sad tale ~

"Well, when Stormwings and She-Flies raced down to save the last remains of their families and friends, the most amazing thing occurred!"

Korehad the whole scene in her mind. She could feel Heliacle's warmth against her body, protecting her from the night chill. Even now, the fireflies seemed to be drifting off to sleep as the lights from their bodies slowly began to wink out.

"It was if the gods who rule over the skies and earth had had enough of this... There was a great thunderclap and all who had been fighting suddenly stopped. The dead were gone from the fields... The blood was gone from the ground. All that remained were the survivors. And as the wind picked up, both sides heard the words of Stormwings and She-Flies-Across the Plains."

"Enough. Go home and do not meet each other again. We have gone were there is only peace...only love. And we will be watching from the skies above."

Kore unwound her tail from Heliacles and used it to point to two very bright stars in the sky. Breathing softly, she whispered to Heliacle. "Watch my tail. You will see where Stormwings and She-Flies have gone..."

And tracing the stars with her tail, she showed her dear friend the star pictures her elders had shown her long ago. There was a deep feeling in her heart; one that she could not place. But there was also sorrow at repeating such a sad tail to her close friend. "They watch over their families from the stars to make sure that there will never be bloodshed like there was so long ago. And after their eggs hatched, the chicks made their way here. According to my elders, it is their line that the mountain and valley clans come from..."

~ Both her ears pricked as the story seemed to peak, as her eyes lightened with hope. Hel wasn't one to believe in magic-but The Creator's powers is something she indeed believed.

Relieved that the main characters of the story haven't met a gloomy end- a rolling chirp sneaks from Heliacle's throat as Kore then mentions to the ocean of diamonds above. Her tail twitches at the loss of contact. Eyes sharpening-she follows her friend's tail as it draws in the air-tracing the old 'griff and horse. Memorizing the pattern immediately,

"...Where we come from." she murmurs faintly-feeling her soul grow peaceful, finally. Her lighter teal eyes slowly shift to Kore-her wings slowly tucking themselves away as her tail gently sways in the night air-accidentally disturbing 2-3 fireflies~

Kore was now getting very sleepy. She settled herself down into the tall meadow grass and looked over at Heliacle. She was happy that she had a chance to tell a story to such a captive audience. Kore yawned again, her wings drooping close to her body.

"I think maybe we should get some rest... I can barely keep my eyes open."

~ Still thinking over the story-it made her want to venture out more. Maybe meet these horses and griffins... Put away the rumors and make her own opinion on them.

Watching Kore silently- Hel's knees buckle-her body obviously wanting to simply rest. Her ears lower a bit at her friend's comment-unsure if she means for Heliacle to leave her to rest-or was it an invitation to recover along her side. She felt a bit awkward-not wanting to leave and have Kore think she hates her- And not wanting to stay and make her feel annoyed or uncomfortable. Standing on her right hoof then her left-Hel dances a bit, trying to decern what to do. The shimmering gold speckles on Kore's midnight mauve body seemed very inviting-

"..." She remained, in awkward silence still~

Kore blinked as Heliacle watched her. Gently grabbing the other griff's wing in her beck, she tugged her down to the ground. Rubbing her head on Heliacle's neck, Kore trilled softly in a soothing tone. It was the one she used with Elathan even though he could not respond to her yet.

"Are you going to sleep or what? We have talked away most of the night and dawn will soon be on our wings. After a nap, we can check on the eggs and go hunting..."

~ her beak is agape and moves as if she means to speak-yet to words come out. Probably drawn speechless seeing Kore act ever so naturally and...lovingly with her. All Hel hears is the great pounding of her heart-hearing the blood flow rushing through her veins. The butterflies in her stomach are now a welcome feeling-Feeling every muscle in her body relax all of a sudden-Heliacle let's herself drop to the soft ground with a bit of persuasion of her friend-though it really wasn't needed.

She herself then begins rubbing her cheek and beak on Kore's soft plumage- finding a bizarre sound roll out from her-much like Kore's is emitting,

"Of course, sleep..." She smiles warmly, reflecting the warmth of her heart~~
