I think it's a brilliant choice in terms of strategy (appeals to the conservatives as well as the nutjob Hillary supporters who won't let her loss go). But in terms of the choice itself I don't like Palin at all. She's too conservative, is willing to wreck her own state's wildlife refuge for a possible few billion drums of oil (to put that in perspective, we use about 20 million barrels of oil each day), and she's got even less political experience than Obama, the one everyone's lambasting for being a "rookie." And considering that McCain looks like he's due for a stroke in the next few years, I don't really like the idea of someone like her actually having a good chance of getting the power to run this country. I mean, Obama's chances of living out his term are equally questionable (what with the assassinations already starting and everything), but at least he picked someone that's got a bit of experience with some important issues, like foreign policy. Biden's a legitimately good choice on his own right, and is made better by the fact that he gives the ticket more experience; if not for the fact that there are so many Hillary supporters willing to vote against Obama just cause he won against Hillary, Palin would have been an utterly terrible VP choice. And also, I would suspect that as soon as all the rabid Hillary women realize Palin's pro-life, they aren't going to be so quick to jump on the McCain/Palin bandwagon.

As for Obama's speech, I liked it. I think I'm starting to warm up to the idea of having him as president (instead of previously only thinking of voting for him cause McCain's acting like an idiot in this race). His plans sound realistic (even if they aren't as happy as McCain's), and though he might not have a lot of Washington experience, he does sound like he's not completely clueless as to how to get things done. Now what he has to start learning how to do is to condense the blurbs he doesn't include in his speeches so that he can in fact put them in his speeches (it's cool that he can pop out a six-plus-minute explanation for a particular plan, but most people aren't going to sit and listen to a six-minute blurb about every topic, and a six-minute blurb isn't nearly as catchy as saying one will follow Osama bin Laden to the gates of Hell).

So yeah, Obama's my choice. Early this year I was leaning towards McCain (in part cause I thought Hillary would win and I was horrified, and in part because I liked the McCain of four years ago), but he's changed so much just to pander to the far right that I can't stand him anymore.

EDIT: Oh, if you put Nader in the poll, you should add Barr (Libertarian), too. He's getting an average of 6% in the polls, which is better than anything Nader's been getting. :]

And possibly McKinney (Green). She might get a chance to be in the September debates, alongside the aforementioned.

Never mind what I said about her being a "brilliant choice." She offers nothing to the Hillary supporters other than being female. Can't believe McCain made such a stupid choice. >__>;

I've been behind Obama since I heard he was running (even if he does suck at bowliing) and his speeches are always just wonderful. Unlike the miserable oast 8 years, his speeches not only convey his own confidence in himself, but his ideals as a politician and a person. And his wife has the same kind of strong, righteous style of speaking.

It was so funny, because my sister (whom is a very racist person) said, and I quote. "You know what's gonna' happen when they vote Obama in, Johnny. They're gonna enslave the white man. We're screwed."
Race certainly has nothing to do with his beliefs at all, and he's conveyed this without even saying a word.

I haven't been following McCain's recent actions too much, because I've simply lost faith in him, but I will say this; like everyone else, I think his VP choice is perhaps a good choice, not only because finally we may have a Vp who isn't terribly ugly, but she worked in some form of militar (I can't quite remember.) This means she has good aim, which means she won't be shooting anyone in the face. biggrin

Being half white also helps. XD

Eveidently, polls state that McCain is leading.

I think she spent the time she was avoiding all public contact memorizing speech clips McCain's camp prepared for her. It would explain why she can't answer complicated or uncommon questions.

Whoever wins will make history anyway,if McCain wins there will be the first female VP. And if Obama wins there with be the first african american president. sweatdrop I just realized that.
