I was wondering ways other people dealt with manic or depressive cycles. I've used both bad and good ways.
The next few posts are going to be a list of ways, compiled from everyone's posts. After that, I'll post mine.
(:
edit: Okay, I'm done.

~~Manic~~Self-medication Staying up on the internet and AIMing/Gaia Playing guitar (no amp if at night) Drawing Camwhoring Computer games Writing Long phone calls ~~Depressive~~Depressive morbid drawings Write Contact people ...ideas?... MuraDarkcaves Depressions: Getting some exersize for at least 20 minutes can help you pull out of a low. Going outside and seeing natural light. Looking up. Getting fresh air. This stuff helps too. Get distracted. Read a book, or watch a funny movie. Don't stew in your misery for too long. Take a shower. Sometimes, depressed peeps let themselves go for a few days. Get cleaned up, that really helps me. Drinking water or fruit juice. Eating fruits and vegetables. I know it sounds stupid, but when your body feels better, you do too. Keep in mind, it isn't all your fault. Remember you're bipolar, which is a sickness, and don't blame yourself for everything. Manias: Get a hold of yourself! Think before you open your mouth. You might say something you wouldn't say in your right mind. Don't do anything too extreme. If you think you're in a mania, it's a bad time to go partying. Your judgment is obscured when your manic. Don't blow all your money on something or go on a shopping spree. You'll end up broke, depressed, and stuck with a bunch of things you don't need. Acknowledge your mania. Don't push it to the side, thinking you'll be fine. Hang out with a friend who understands you're bipolar, and can tell you when you're about to do something incredibly stupid. Talk to your friend or friends, make sure they know the warning signs. And most importantly, LISTEN TO THEM when they tell you you're being really manic and need to take time out to breathe and think!

What have I done? Everything on the list so far.
When I'm manic I act like an idiot, stay up, whatever. I write, I draw, I wish I had the net all night. I self-medicate when I'm scary manic. It makes me stop and think, and calms me down.
When I'm depressive I write suicide notes and emo poetry, draw morbid pictures, and talk to people on AIM if I'm still connected. My depressive cycles are fast, so I tend to not be depressed much. Often after I finish writing a long suicide note, I've cycled.
Not-cool stuff: I cut a few times. I see friends of mine starting that now in their emotional crises (non BP-related) and I always use the same argument on them. Here it is.
"Dude. You don't want to do that. It's one of the worst things you can do to yourself. I'm obviously not a hypocrite, I have scars of my own. But every time I see the scars it's a reminder. People ask about them. You don't want that. If you want to hurt, punch stuff. Same effect, less long-term consequences."
I've convinced a couple people to punch. It's what I use now when I have the need to feel pain. It's amazingly therapeutic.

Technospaceman Yeah, I jam to KURT sometimes. I knew you'd get it. That one was obvious. Yeah, Nirvana is good music. Kurt Cobain was bipolar. The songs sound bipolarish to me, the way he goes from quiet to screaming, the change in the lyrics. heart

In the second post, I was giving reasons not to cut. Scars are a good reason. Like these. That would be my leg. It's healed, and still looks like that. Back of my hand. Click the thumbnail. It looks lighter than it is because of the flash. I was psychotic when I did the last two with a chewed guitar pick, trying to stop the hallucinations. The other one, I was too manic and trying to deal. Either way, I have the scars now. Before you cut, consider that. I have more, too, just not pics of them.

Depressions: Getting some exersize for at least 20 minutes can help you pull out of a low.

And most importantly, LISTEN TO THEM when they tell you you're being really manic and need to take time out to breathe and think!
Okay, that's all I can think of for now. Man, I sound like the type of poster you see in the nurse's office at school. But all this stuff can be helpful.

MuraDarkcaves Acknowledge your mania. Don't push it to the side, thinking you'll be fine. I was in denial of my bipolar for 5 months off the meds. I didn't see my manic cycles, or depressive. Thinking about it, losing my car keys was not a good reason to off myself. I'm just glad my friend heard what I was saying and drove 10 miles to my house in the middle of the night to pick me up and keep me at his house overnight so I'd cycle. At the end of the 5 months, I went psychotic. One hell of a wake-up call. My psych says a main thing in bipolar is denial. I'm watching myself closely now. MuraDarkcaves Okay, that's all I can think of for now. Man, I sound like the type of poster you see in the nurse's office at school. But all this stuff can be helpful. Actually, I thought it was good. I write like that sometimes too. (:

Heh,well, I used to cut myself, and now pay the consequenses dearly, urges, and scarrs and what not. I was tempted to OD on my midol (female PMS reliever thingy) but I never did, erm...I was suicidle at one point...
thats the BAD stuff!!!
Well, now that I'm clean, I write, play guitar, play with my kitty, read a book, and stuff when I'm depressive.
When I'm manic, I chill with friends, and just pass it off as a sugar high, I don't really think my mania gets out of control, I jstu get really really really really really hyper like and stuff, and thoughts race and everything is good, heh, sounds like I'm describing a drug trip. I use AIM, to just talk to ppl, and entertain them, I talk to my dad, whos depressed, so my mania helps him, and his depressiveness helps bring me down, hehe.
Erm, I shower, if either one gets out of control, you know, to relax and just think slower and stuff.
yeah, hehe, story of my life... 3nodding
