First I wanna thank those of you that went. thank you! lol smile Hopefully they realize now that there is some concern for what they want to do. Here's the answers we got from Lanzer himself - Lanzer Gaia is like a big city where different parts will be under renovation at one point or another, I don't think there will be one day where we fix everything at once. Next up is probably the inventory system, and community features. Lil Christmas Angel .When will all of the changes be complete for the new layout of Gaia? Lanzer Sorry to hear that you don't like the feeds feature in the new framework. There are many teams working on Gaia today, artist work on items, storylines, NPC, and games, while the admin team work on restoring hacked accounts, keeping the site safe, removing bots, and maintaining a good culture throughout the site, while flash developers work mainly on zOMG today along with other games and improvements, the UI team help tackle many complaints that new users have with how hard it is to learn how to use Gaia. We're trying really hard to address everyone's concerns, and unfortunately sometimes one person's request might upset another person. Imagine a new user asking for a better menu, when a veteran Gaia user would ask for things to stay the way it is. Unfortunately we have to make some choices that cannot cater to everyone, but we only act with the intention of making the overall site better. Having a better way to keep track of your friends and having less announcements or updates flooding either the announcements forum or the PM inbox is also part of the goal. Everything is in response to feedback and complaints from other users, for there's nothing to gain from making anyone upset. We'll continue to address your concern and think of how to find a good layout or solution that will please as many Gaians as possible. Dipperdandooney Why are you working on an ugly facebook/myspace layout instead of working on things that need to be done? Are you trying to get rid of your sites originality and piss off alot of users that are going to quit? You have alot of users that love gaia the way it is don't change that. Work on better Mc's they have gone downhill alot, Work on improving the GD problem, Work on towns and better ways for us not to get hacked. NOT a new layout please not a new one. Alot of people say you guys don't listen to us anymore and say you are money grubbing. Don't prove them right. Lanzer The changes aren't necessary for existing users, but we wish to address concerns from new users too. We must stay fair and address everyone's needs. I hope that our constant update in new games, events, MMO, and current features will continue to be our pledge for staying focused on the everyday Gaian at the same time. A summer event with all the updates and games are a magnitude bigger in time and effort than these incremental layout changes actually. Gaia is a free website for all to enjoy. Today Gaia still remains to have all its features for free. While I hope that everyone would know that the months and months of updates that happens require tremendous efforts, and to keep building these new things, and serving traffic for millions of users actually take millions of dollars. Sponsors help cover some of it, others are actually supported by Gaians themselves. Hope that makes sense, as it's a pretty big eco-system to keep everything working month after month here at Gaia. We actually have a list of bug fixes and changes that go out twice a week. We fix at least two dozen bugs a week, and new features like zOMG has over 700 that we're trying to fix. Do check out Panagrammic's journal when you get a chance, and you'll see a portion of the changes and fixes that we regularly update, but otherwise, we continue to listen and address bugs and problems, but with the size of Gaia, it's just difficult to fix everything at once. STARS Rescue Why all the unnecessary changes to Gaia? The original layout was just fine, plus it was less glitchy. Many glitches have been found, that nothing has been done about. When I joined, Gaia was a nonprofit website, what happened to that? In the past year it seems that Gaia has become a community completely about profit. Actually another I thought of: How many Devs or Admins browse through the forums? There are many thing that I have seen pointed out, but nothing is done about...Users constantly have opinions expressed, but nothing seems like it is acknowledged till it is put here. And the one thing I don't get... I understand Gaia has too expand and grow to fit all the people and things they want... but why do they need to change the appearance of the site in order to do that? :/ Someone care to explain?

Well, this is great and all, but they still didn't explain how the current layout was NOT working for any new Gaians. As well as how the current Gaians were important to the community as a whole...I'm a little perplexed as well, as to how they can make everything so similiar to myspace, that is NOT what the majority wants; that is, the current majority. New Gaians want those myspace/facebook layouts...And they are focusing on new people too much...I think it takes a person on Gaia to tell a friend, whom tells a friend, whom tells a friend, and so on...That's how my little friendship web started. And it felt much better that way...

To be honest I think he was talking out of his a**.
Just expanding the layout to fit everything would be faster,easier, and cost less.
I know someone who made a website and I asked them which would be easier.

I can understand where Lanzer was coming from to a point. One question I asked that didn't get answered (since it was an edit) was if we would be seeing original Gaia artwork at least. If we can't get Gaia to change the layout, I would at least like to see the artwork changed from the bland and dull purples, back to the original colorful headers...I plan on asking it at the next ATA.

Yeah I didn't really get what they were saying either. I mean its obvious a website has to change to hold all users. I think we all get that. Though I don't get why we have to change from the real gaia to some face book. I mean surely you can make a new layout and still keep the anime cute pictures related and add some color no? Surely we could have made that cute little you got a pm picture updated and look more slicker but it still be cute?
So really I think he was flat out saying we don't matter we are going to do with what the new guys want. So in even simpler terms they are flat out telling us no.
Not to mention there were two parts that really made me laugh. When he said make it easier to keep in touch with your friends? Oh goodness that made me laugh. I think the system right now is just dandy to keep in touch with friends that really care, not the stalkers. Being most people I hear say they don't care about when their friend gets a profile comment or when and where they posted.
Then there was the we have a lot of users and we can maintain to all your needs. Blah blah blah! Okay that just made me laugh and is complete BS considering we get so many new users who come for a while play a few weeks or month or so then log off and never come back on. Then not to mention the guys that get falsely banned or hacked and they can't get into their old accounts so they have to make a new one. Then the old one never gets used again. Then there are those with 200 mules. Ugh! Maybe they could deal with the whole too many users if they would delete some of these people who's accounts are never in use anymore! Not to mention all the rude people/spammers who come in just to ruin gaia. Ugh. . .
I think we need to send one mule in and make him ask what has happened to the anime portion of gaia and other questions that don't get really answered.Idk. . .

I don't think he really read what we were saying because I dunno what the hell he was saying at times.... I say we attend the next ask the admins and make sure we all get on the first page and make sure he UNDERSTANDS that what he said last time was pure bull s**t scream

I think if we attend the next one only 1 or 2 people should go with planned out questions agreed on by everyone.
That way it's a little more organized and maybe then we'll get some answers.
What I'm thinking is that (I hope) the preview they showed us for this new layout was just a very VERY rough draft. That the actual layout will be a lot different and easier to navigate and such.
And this -points to the 5 links in the left corner- is freaking hard to navigate. It's irritating :/
Let's just hope it all gets fixed.. -sighs-

The changes aren't necessary for exsisting users...
That kind of put me off though when I actually read it the first time. I don't kow, that did make it sound like he cared more about newer memebers as opposed to old ones.
And he can balence old with the new, it's just that it seems he isn't open to that, maybe...?
Hmmm, well, maybe our questions should now gear towards what specifically he said to us. Should we quote him on anything?

they say that there are complaints from new user that the site is hard to use, but less tabs make it harder to use. If it's even confusing to some of the current users then clearly it's not a good design. and besides when I joined gaia in '04 the site was much harder to use and it still didn't take that much time to figure out. aslo they say that things like the mmo take much more time then layout changes so why don't they just spend more time on that then something unnecessary. it will always take users some time to figure out the site and all the other users have managed so far so why not stick with the one that has worked so far and that the current users like too.

Questions to consider: (Want to add questions just list them in a post)
- When you update the site, why do you have to change the appearance as well?
- Is the preview of the new Gaia landing what it's really gonna look like?
- Will the Mail icon ever come back?
- What do you think about people leaving Gaia to Solia because they feel like the New People are being considered more then older people?
- Are hacked/glitched accounts actually looked into?
