Now I feel a little guilty because I haven't been posting in the guild as much as I feel I should, but alas I'm no good at role plays and had difficulty finding a topic that could produce much conversation that I could whole-heartedly engage in.

So I finally came up with a topic to discuss that I feel many might enjoy taking part in. My question to you is, Do you find the Joker sexually attractive, and if so, why?

One of the reason I've come up with myself is that he represents a state of extreme freedom, and people by nature desire freedom and choice.

Another is that it's like being able to live out all of your more "naughty" desires through someone else. You would never break the law yourself, but that doesn't mean your man can't.

HEATH LEDGER'S JOKER BTW

I mostly admire his scruffiness and theatrical awesometude-- he's all wonderfully eccentric and grungy yet quite elegant in his own way. Plus, Heath Ledger's performance is just amazing. 3nodding

Agreed, Ledger out did himself.

(I'm still bothered by his death, he was so talented, it's like losing a Da Vinci).

Are you referring to the moive Joker only, or the Joker in a more general way? 'Cause I haven't seen the movie yet (family circumstances dictate that I will have to wait for the DVD) and I find the comic book/cartoon Joker not at all attractive.

I kinda assumed she meant the movie only, but that might have been just me. And yeah, the comic book/cartoon/Jack Nicholson Joker, while cool, isn't very attractive. Kinda makes you wonder about Harley a bit. neutral

Yeah, I'm talking about the movie... I should probably clarify.

But I think Harley Quinn is a little off beat anyway. (Too Clingy)!

Definitely off beat. Her character bothers me more and more as time goes on. She just seems, I dunno, kind of ill-conceived I guess-- way too fluffy somehow without being quite fluffy enough and way too crazy somehow without being quite crazy enough. Then again I'm going to keep quiet about "Batman the Animated Series" in general because even as a kid I disliked it. (I watched it anyway because it was either that or Power Rangers, and Batman is such a neat concept for a costumed hero, but still. O_o)

Uh, don't pay me any mind. I'm just kinda ranting here. sweatdrop

I agree, she's a very generic character. It's like the classic obsessive fan, she loves him, he doesn't love her, he uses her, she knows it but loves him so much it doesn't matter and by the end she always comes back for more.

I was never a fan of her either, and I didn't care for the animated series much either, I only watched bits and pieces of it anyway.

Yes, that's exactly the word for her: generic. I also find her very unrealistic as well (and I don't care if it's "just a cartoon," it still needs to reflect reality and real human behavior to a certain extent): no one would ever act as stupid as she does about the Joker. I mean, if she couldn't see his lack of affection for her for what it is that would be one thing. Although, in all fairness, you would think she'd eventually figure out that she's wasting her time on someone who couldn't care less about her, and subsequently turn on him. Or maybe, I dunno, develop such a need to possess him that she would ultimately try to destroy him so no one else could have him or something-- you know; actually act like somebody who's obsessed instead of just a walking Bronx accent with pigtails. stare

Glad to know that I'm not the only person who never liked it much. I tried to for a while, but there was always something about it that just never seemed to set right...

Pie already covered most of why, but Lulu just feels like adding that she's about 80% lesbian and the Joker is still the most sexy person she's ever encountered. eek That scene when he's standing in the road saying hit me . . . Everyone should have the right to see that in IMAX. It's orgasmic! whee whee whee heart whee whee whee

Surry Pie, but what your saying seems a little backwards to Lulu. And Lulu tends to have a better perspective of Harley because she and Miss Quinn are so very similar.

First off, generic for fanfiction and minor characters perhaps, but main characters much less reality? She's hardly what could be labeled "common". Other than herself Lulu has yet to meet someone who strongly resembles Miss Quinn. Besides, what character couldn't be called generic by some standard? The chances that any character you could find hasn't been done before is slim to none.

More concerning yet, is your claim that she is unrealistic. I beg to differ! The only thing unrealistic about Harley Quinn is her capacity for impartial strategic thinking under the restraints of her "mental deficiencies". By which I mean that, unlike most people in her state of mind, she knows when to call it quits and just survive. She proved that several times during the series. As for your remarks about her obsession with the Joker, that only makes her more human-like. Have you ever known someone in an abusive relationship? If you have you've met someone who keeps coming back. Some people will get out of a relationship as soon as their partner even hints that they might be violent. If not, they're the type that will never leave. No matter what. They'll always come back (if they even try to get free in the first place). No one makes them stay. They all have they're own individual reasons, but the result is always the same. Enter, Harley. Harley's reason is her obsession. Another word for it would be love. Love is an infatuation. All love is the same, but not everyone loves the same way. Harley's way of loving is unique, but never insincere. It's not entirely uncommon in abusive relationships. I realize that the abused party always claims to stay out of love and are never believed. But sometimes it really is love. It is quite possible to love someone who doesn't love you back and it's even more possible to love someone who's violent towards you. Where you see a one dimensional character I see an abused girlfriend. The "always comes back type". Also, your suggestions about turning on him or destroying him so that no one else could have him. . . . That is what sounds unrealistic to me. That's the kind of thing you see in a movie. The chances that someone who's obsessed would actually do those things are near impossible. It's an understandable misconception for someone who's never been obsessed, but it really doesn't happen like that in reality. I suppose it could happen, but it's a far cry from being so simple a situation.

So to clarify this long drabble of psychosomaticism; Yes. People would act as stupid as she does about the Joker. People DO act that stupid. Lulu herself has acted that stupid. It's called being in love. Unequivocal, nonsensical, unconditional love.
