Would it be possible to use a vm program like xen or virtual box to load an os from a seperate partition instead of a virtual machine file? The reason I'm asking is I run PClinuxOS as my main system because it's great fo media(at least on my box it is) and I have windows for unreal tornament 2004 because I'm teaching myself to program and unreal script is simple and it has visual rewards for A.D.D. people like myself xd I would like to be able to use Amarok while I'm coding, maping, skinning, etc... So any thoughts?

Okay, this thought bugged me enough that I actually found a way to do it; however, it's tricky and it uses proprietary software, VMware. I was hoping for an open source solution, but what can you do? sad

You need 3d accleration do test your unreal scripts and currently VMware is the only VM that has any kind of support for this, last I checked it was beta quality though. I'm sure that once VMware works out big bugs then XEN and Virtual Box (now owned my Sun) will backwards engineer it so they can have it as well. Besides only Virtual Box OSE is open source the full version is closed source and is the only version that has USB support.

If I hear anything about the open source VM programs adding 3d Acceleration I'll post it in the guild, but as far as share the file system from Host <-> Guest I know how to do this in Virtual Box, glad to hear you got it to work in VMware.
To do this kind of shareing in VirtualBox You need to open the main VirtualBox program and edit the guest OS you want to give access the the Host machines HDD and set up a shared directory, this will be where the Guest OS will have access to so think carefully where it shall be. Once you have this set up you need to mount the shared directory as a HDD this differs depending if you are using a Windows or Unix based OS. It pretty much tells you how to set it up in the dialog box on the setup window.
