Just as a conversation topic, I was wondering what people's opinions are on Marshall Ferrets. Whether the ferrets they sell, or the products. Like I said, I'm really just curious. My ferrets happened to be from Marshall Farms, but that was only because I was really impressed with the pet store we found them at, and I trust the people there.

Yeah, the store I got mine from had a really great reputation and the people there were in business a long time and they really knew ferrets. Plus they sold their ferrets at a kind of expensive price.
Anyway they sell marshall weezils. I don't really know, I don't think I like marshalls much. They neuter and descent their ferrets at an extremely young age. And my ferrets hate their food, which is kind of funny. I'm sort of indifferent, but leaning towards dislike.

I heard marshall does chemical testing on ferrets, and I am totally against that, but my ferrets only like marshall stuff so I am kind of stuck in the middle.
I have two ferrets!!!

Ehhh... I'm definatly not for them but I'm not sure if I'm 100% against them either. I really don't like their practice of fixing/descenting their kits at such an early age. It's believed that that's at least part of the reason American Ferrets are so prone to all of the 'classic' fuzzy diseases. Some of my European friends say that Adrenal isn't nearly as common as it is over here.
I also refuse to feed my fuzzies their food since I learned a little about basic ferret nutrition. The second ingredient is corn for crying out loud. ><
Although I do like and enjoy their other products. My furkids love their Super Thru-Way and most of their other toys/hammocks/bedding/litter are all made by Marshalls. So I at least like their non food products if nothing else.

Have you tried mixing it with some other foods? We have a couple that would only eat one food. We added it into the mix we use, and then slowly took it away. They eat our regular mix now.Anyway, this cake is great. It's so delicious and moist...

I'm with Chie when it comes to their breeding/care and the food. Having worked at a pet store for 3 years, I'd have to say I'm really not fond of Marshall's breeding practices. We had too many babies coming in too young- we'd have to isolate the kits for a week or so to get them stronger. I'd found the Marshall's food gave the store kits a horrible fecal and body odor. I'll use/buy the non food items, but will buy superpet or handmade hammocks and blankets when I can. My weezils get 8-1 ultimate (45% protein) mixed with the ultrablend for food.

It's so delicious and moist... yeah i tried that a couple of times shes really a picky eater mostly cause of the food shape if it a round pellet like most ferret foods are she doesnt touch it or she flips her dish into the littler box so the food dish is empty though i don't have a problem feeding her Zupreem. oh yeah im going to be making a small topic in the Health, Nutrition, and Medical sub forum about the foods so we dont get off topic to much for this one

Both of the ferrets that reside in my home are Marshall's Ferrets. I've had mine for almost a year and a half now and she's as healthy as can be. The only thing wrong with her is that she's deaf. My girlfriend's ferret is still just a kit, but she's happy and healthy and we've had no problems with her at all other than typical kit behavior. I don't use the food that Marshall produces only because where I live, it's a tad expensive at 18 dollars a bag for the small bags. My babies, however, refuse to eat any treats made by Marshall.

All of my ferrets have been Marshalls. Granted, if I had had the ability to get my fuzzies from just a reputable breeder, I would have taken that course of action gladly. The fact that Marshalls has been breeding the heck out of them due to their popularity as pets, causes me to wonder if they really have the ferret's health on their minds. Rapid breeding can cause all sorts of medical issues and birth deformities that no owner should have to endure if it could have been avoided with a slower birth rate.

All three of my fuzzies are Marshalls and they are small compared to a lot of ferrets I have seen. I do not like Marshalls practices of sending the ferrets out at such a young age as well as fixing/descenting at such a young age. It's believed by a lot of vets , in my area at least, that is why american ferrets have so many health problems. Not sure if it is true or not but it does make sense. Have you seen the ferrets from Canada or Europe? Huge! My little girl, Miss Lilah is two years old and she weighs just over a pound. That's as big as she is going to get. I also do not like their food. The ingredients are poor as well the protein content. I feed my crew EVO Innova for ferrets and they love it. The treats are not great either.
Can you tell I voted against Marshalls? LOL rofl

I really don't have a preference. As far as products goes, as long as I can save money, I'm good. And as for ferrets, as long as I can get a healthy ferret in the color, gender, size, and markings I prefer, I'm good. I don't really like my ferrets to have tattoos, but pretty much every ferret you find around Michigan is from Marshall Farms so the tattoos are gonna' be present.
