Herbs

Burdock Root- Small-stemmed, sharp-smelling thistle with dark leaves. A medicine cat must dig up the roots, wash off the dirt, and chew them into a pulp, which cat be applied to rat bites. Cures infection.

Catmint/Catnip- A delicious-smelling, leafy plant that's hard to find in the wild; often found growing in Twoleg gardens. The best remedy for greencough.

Chervil- A sweet-smelling plant with large, spreading, fern-like leaves and small white flowers. The juice of the leaves can be used for infected wounds, and chewing the root helps with bellyache.

Cobweb- Spiderwebs can be found all over the forest; be careful not to bring along the spider when you take the web! Medicine cats wrap it around an injury to soak up the blood and keep the wound clean. Stops bleeding.

Coltsfoot- A flowering plant, a bit like a dandelion, with yellow or white flowers. The leaves can be chewed into a pulp, which is eaten to help shortness of breath.

Comfrey- Identifiable by its large leaves and small bell-shaped flowers, which can be pink, white, or purple. The fat black roots of this plant can be chewed into a poultice to mend broken bones or soothe wounds.

Dock-A plant similar to sorrel. The leaf can be chewed up and applied to soothe scratches.

Dried Oak Leaf- Collected in the autumn and stored in a dry place. Stops infections.

Feverfew- A small bush with flowers like daisies. The leaves can be eaten to cool down body temperature, particularly with cats with fever or chills.

Goldenrod- A tall plant with bright yellow flowers. A poultice of this is terrific for healing wounds.

Honey- A sweet, golden liquid created by bees. Difficult to collect without getting stung., but great for soothing infections or the throats of cats who have breathed smoke.

Horsetail- A tall plant with bristly stems that grows in marshy areas. The leaves can be used to treat infected wounds. Usually chewed up and applied as a poultice.

Juniper Berries- A bush with spiky dark green leaves and purple berries. The berries soothe bellyaches and can help cats who are having trouble breathing.

Lavender- A small, purple flowering plant. Cures fever.

Marigold- A bright orange or yellow flower that grows low to the ground. The petals or leaves can be chewed into a pulp and applied as a poultice to wounds. Stops infection.

Mouse Bile- A bad-smelling liquid that is the only remedy for ticks. Dab a little moss soaked in bile on a tick and it'll fall right off. Wash paws thoroughly in running water afterward.

Poppy Seed- Small black seeds shaken from a dried poppy flower, these are fed to cats to help them sleep. Soothes cats suffering from shock and distress. Not recommended for nursing queens.

Stinging Nettle- The spiny green seeds can be administered to a cat who's swallowed poison, while the leaves can be applied to a wound to bring down swelling.

Tansy- A strong-smelling plant with round yellow flowers. Good for curing coughs, but must be eaten in small doses.

Thyme- This herb can be eaten to calm anxiety and frayed nerves.

Watermint- A leafy green plant found in streams or damp earth. Usually chewed into a pulp and then fed to a cat suffering bellyache.

Wild Garlic-
Rolling in a patch of wild garlic can help prevent infection, especially for dangerous wounds like rat bites.

Yarrow- A flowering plant whose leaves can be made into a poultice and applied to wounds or scratches. Eaten plain to expel poison.

DO NOT GET:

Deathberries/Yew Berries- Red berries that can be fatally poisonous to kits and elders. They are NOT a medicine. Known to Twolegs as Yew Berries. BEWARE!

Recommended Herb Mixtures

Sicknesses

Greencough - The cat gains a very bad fever and cough. It may only be caught in leaf-bare and many cats die from it.

Chill -
The cat gets a runny nose and a fever. It may be caught from getting wet in cold weather. It is not fatal.

Whitecough -
It gives the cat a bad cough and fever and it can turn into Greencough. It's not fatal unless it turns into Greencough.

Cat's Eye - It makes a cat's eye give off a lot of crusty stuff. It can be caught at any time of the year. It can't kill a cat but it causes blindness.

Bug Ears -
Little black bugs claw around in a cat's ears. They make it itch a lot and give off a lot of wax. (Ear mites.)

Rabies - Gives the cat a fever, foamy mouth, and dizziness. There is no cure for it. If a cat gets it, it will die. It is contagious and a cat contracts it if they have been bitten, clawed, etc. by a rabid animal. During the rabid state, the cat will go crazy and attack others.

Death Disease - It gives the cat severe pain in every area, it will eventually kill a cat. Cats get it from ticks and mosquitoes. (Lyme disease.)

White Paw - A cat's paw pads turn white, and give off severe pain if they walk on them. A cat may get in leaf bare when their paws are cold for a long period of time.

Scarlet Fever - The cat gets a severe fever. Only kits may contract it. They get it from being cold.

Neetle - They get a high fever and they throw up a lot. They can get it any time of the year, and there is no known cause for it.

Blackcough -
The deadliest form of the 'Coughs'. If a cat catches it, they are most likely to die. Comes right after Greencough. Can kill if not treated soon. Very rare.

Clan's Positions

Kit- A kitten, not yet old enough to be an apprentice (six moons old); they are not allowed to hunt or leave the camp alone; very young kits do not normally leave the nursery, however, older kits are allowed to do so; their names always end with -kit. Snowkit, Icekit, and Foxkit are examples of kits.

Apprentice- A cat who, at six moons old, begins training to become a warrior or medicine cat; they train daily to practice battle and hunting skills, and also care for the elders; one task they usually do is fetch bedding; their names end with -paw; they become warriors when their mentor and leader feel that they are ready. Berrypaw, Willowpaw, Hazelpaw, and Jaypaw are examples of apprentices.

Warrior- A cat (tom or she-cat without kits) trained in the ways of combat; warriors defend, hunt, and fight for their Clan; they also are in charge of training apprentices to become warriors; a warrior may only have one apprentice at a time, although they may supervise the training of apprentices lacking mentors. Blackclaw, Runningwind, Fireheart, Sandstorm, Graystripe, and Squirrelflight are examples of warriors.

Queen- A she-cat expecting or nursing kits; they stay in the nursery until their kits become apprentices (Squirellflight left to assume warrior duties when the kits were weaned), then return to their warrior duties. In the first books in the Original Series, however, it was used to describe all she-cats. Tallpoppy, Brindleface, Goldenflower, Morningflower, Sorreltail, Ferncloud, and Frostfur are examples of queens. They may also choose to stay a queen even after their kits grow to six moons of age to help other queens. Ferncloud, Daisy, and Speckletail are examples of queens that did this.

Medicine Cat- A medicine cat is trained specifically in the ways of healing (but that does not mean they can't fight); receives messages from StarClan and interprets them; medicine cats stand outside of the rivalries between the Clans. A medicine cat will heal an injured cat and can order (On rare occasions) the leader what to do. Each Clan has either one or two medicine cats; they are not allowed to take a mate or have kits (however Yellowfang was the mother of Brokenstar, a.k.a. Brokentail). Sometimes, fully trained warriors can become an apprentice to a medicine cat, but this does not happen very often. Barkface, Littlecloud, Mothwing, Leafpool, Runningnose, Cinderpelt, Yellowfang, and Spottedleaf are examples of medicine cats.

Deputy- The cat who is second-in-command to the Clan leader; the deputy is in charge of organizing patrols and hunting parties, and succeeds the leader after he/she loses all nine lives from battle, age, or sickness. The deputy does not have to become leader, however. If the deputy becomes too old to carry on his or her duties, they may retire to being an elder; in the case that the deputy dies, the leader must appoint a new deputy before moonhigh, or midnight. Graystripe, Brambleclaw, Russetfur, Ashfoot and Mistyfoot are examples of deputies.

Elder- A retired warrior, queen, medicine cat, deputy, or leader; elders are usually cared for by apprentices. They amuse apprentices and kits by telling them stories of times past; however, the elders may still fight and defend the nursery during raids. Patchpelt, Smallear, Dappletail, Halftail, Heavystep, Mousefur, Longtail, Rosetail, and One-eye are examples of elders.

Clan Leader- The Clan Leader is the cat who leads the Clan; their names always end with -star; new leaders take a trip to the Moonstone or Moonpool. There, they receive their nine lives and name, always ending with -star from StarClan. Firestar, Tigerstar, Tallstar, Leopardstar, Blackstar, Crookedstar, Bluestar, and Onestar are a few examples.

Other

Loner- A cat that chooses to live neither in Clans nor with Twolegs. They live and hunt alone. Loners can be friendly and even helpful to the Clan cats. Term also used to describe a friendly rogue.

Rogue-
Another term for loner, but more offensive; a cat, usually more hostile than a loner, who is part of no Clan, or a cat who was exiled from his original Clan, banished for crimes against the warrior code. These cats are usually hostile and live as outlaws onthe Clan territory or on the outskirts. Rogues will sometimes live with other rogues, but they generally travel alone or with their mate.

Kittypet-
Cats that live with Twolegs. They wear collars and are usually timid, soft, and scared of Clan cats. They are fed by twolegs, and so have no need to hunt. They have a vague sense of territory beyond their Twolegs' garden.

Fighting Moves

Back Kick- Explosive surprise move to catch the opponent from behind. Judge the opponent's distance from you carefully; then lash out with your back legs, taking your weight on your front paws.

Belly Rake- A fight-stopper. Slice with unsheathed claws across soft flesh of opponent's belly. If you're pinned down, belly rake quickly puts you back in control.

Front Paw Blow- Frontal attack. Bring your front paw down hard on your opponent's head. Claws shealthed.

Front Paw Strike- Frontal attack. Slice downward with your frontpaw at the body or face of your opponent. Claws unshealthed.

Killing Bite- A death blow to the back of the neck. Quick and silent and sometimes considered dishonorable. Used only as a last resort.

Leap-And-Hold- Ideal for a small cat facing a large opponent. Spring onto the opponent's back, and grip with unshealthed claws. Now you are beyond the range of your opponent's paws and in position to inflict severe body wounds. A group of apprentices can defeat a large and dangerous warrior in this way. It was deployed to great effect against BloodClan's deputy, Bone. Watch for the drop-and-roll countermove, and try to jump free before you get squashed.

Partner Fighting- Warriors who have trained and fought together will often instinctively fall into a paired defensive position, each protecting the other's back while fending off an opponent on either side. Slashing, clawing, and leaping together, battle pairs can be a whirlwind of danger for attackers.

Play Dead- Effective in a tight situation, such as when you are pinned. Stop struggling and go limp. When your opponent relaxes his grip, thinking you are defeated, push yourself up explosively. This will throw off an unwary opponent and put you in an attacking position. This is dangerous, however, since your attacker may give a killing bite in the seconds that you relax.

Scruff Shake- Secure a strong teeth grip in the scruff of your opponent's neck; then shake violently until he or she is too rattled to fight back. Most effective against rats, which are small enough to throw. A strong throw will stun or kill them.

Teeth Grip- Target your opponent's extremities--the legs, tail, scruff, or ears--and sink your teeth and hold. This move is similar to the Leap-And-Hold except your claws remain free to fight.

Upright Lock- Final, crushing move on already weakened opponent. Rear up on back legs and bring full weight down on opponent. If opponent does the same, wrestle and flip him under you. This move makes you vulnerable to the Belly Rake, so requires great strength and speed.

Ceremonies/Gatherings:

Naming:
When it is time for an Kit or Apprentice to become the next rank, the clan holds a small naming ceremony. The Leader will call to their clan, and they will gather around, with the said cat(s) to be named up infront, along with the Deputy and Medicine cat. The leader will give the cat his/her new name and the cat is to touch noses with the leader, then after the congradulatory praises, the cat is to sit Vigil for the night. He/She has to stay awake to watch for signs of danger and can not speak till He/She is releaved the next morning.

Highstones Cave/Moonrock:
The Moonrock is a stone inside a cave that the Medicine cats go to see once every couple of Moons. Only Medicine cats and their appretices make this long journey to speak with StarClan. This is where they go to learn about any phrophacies or predictions.

Gathering at Four Trees:
The Four Trees is a group of well - four trees - that surround a large boulder. The Gathering at Four Trees is where all 4 Cat clans meet beneath StarClan to discuss whats going on in their territory, possible threats, share predictions/prophacies, and to name new Apprentices/Warriors/Medicine Cats/Deputys/and on occasion leaders. Each Cat clan leader stands upon the large boulder, and adresses cats of all clans.

He/she has trained hard to understand the ways of your noble code, and I commend him/her to you as a warrior in his/her turn. (Apprentice Name), do you promise to follow the warrior code and defend this Clan, even at the cost of your life?

Leader: Spirits of StarClan, you know every cat by name. I ask you now to take away the name from the cat you see before you, for it no longer stands for what he/she is. By my authority as Clan leader, and with the approval of our warrior ancestors, I give this cat a new name. From this moment she/he will be known as (New Name).
*The clan usually commences into cheering of the new name. The cat will need to stand silent vigil for the night and guard the camp.

Medicine Cat Apprentice Ceremony:
(In the Moonpool/stone at half-moon, the medicine cat gives ceremony)
MedCat: "(Apprentice Med Cat), is it your wish to enter the mysteries of a medicine cat?"
Apprentice: "It is."
MedCat: "Then come forward. Warriors of StarClan, I present to you this apprentice. She has chosen the path of a medicine cat. Grant her your wisdom and insight, so that she may understand your ways and heal her Clan in accordance with your will. Now, crouch down and drink from the pool."
*Apprentice obeys, and has her own dreams with StarClan.*

Medicine Cat Ceremony:
(at Moonpool/stone at half-moon, medicine cat gives ceremony)
MedCat:"I, (Medcat Name), medicine cat of ThunderClan, call upon my warrior ancestors to look down upon this apprentice. She has trained hard to understand the way of a medicine cat, and with your help, she will serve her Clan for many moons. (Apprentice Name), do you promise to uphold the ways of a medicine cat, to stand apart from rivalry between Clan and Clan, and to protect all cats equally, even at the cost of your life?"
Apprentice: "I do."
MedCat: "Then by the powers of StarClan, I give you your true medicine cat name. (Apprentice Name), from this moment on, you shall be known as (New Medcat name). You have proved to be a true medicine cat by finding the Moonpool."
*All medicine cats call new name.*

Elder Ceremony:
Leader:"(Warrior Name), Is it your wish to give up the name of warrior and go to join the elders?"

Cat Names:
NOTE-All prefixes in names must be realistic, which means it must be something that cats would know. (For example, a cat would not have a name with words like "eclipse," "ghost," "phantom," or "celestial," because cats wouldn't know what those things are. And names like "Hawkfire," "Rainfire," or "Mistylight," for example, because they aren't practical.)

For Newborns/kittens your cat has to have a name ending in kit - such as
Hollykit
Ebonykit

For Apprentices, your cat's name ends in Paw - such as
Hollypaw
Ebonypaw

For Warriors/Deputies/Medicine cats
your name ends in whatever the leader of your clan decides to end it with (If you have a suggestion you want, you can always PM the Cat Clan Leader and ask them to give you the desired name, but this only applies when you are becoming a warrior from apprenticeship. Not when you are creating a cat.) - such as
Hollyberry
Ebonyfur
Talltail
Ravenclaw
So on..

Leader cats awlays end in Star - Such as
Hollystar
Ebonystar
Shadowstar
Nightstar
So on..

Exception to the rules are Rogue cats, they can be named whatever the RP'er decides - unless they wish to join the clan, then their name has to follow the naming rules - Their name is then decided by the cat clan leader.
