Read that and be informed...

Anyway, I think it's really stupid. I think that whoever decided that just made China's rep worse than if they'd used the little girl who actually sang. It's terrible, treating people like they can be replaced so easily...

:/

What do you think?

By Western standards, that could be considered odd.
It could be a cultral thing that we just don't understand.
I don't know enough about China to say, though.

Although:
"It was not the first time an Olympics opening ceremony involved lip-synching."

Definetly Maybe

I find it just plain awful. It makes it seem all girls who aren't pretty or cute may never be as famous as those who are considered cute.

I do understand what you, Kuro Fur, about it could be a cultural thing; but have a picture-perfect child lip-singing simply doesn't seem right.

Why do we have stuntmen standing in for actors in movies, rather than just having people who can do the stunts star in movies?

Some people are just better at making an appearance than others. How many times do we get told who did what stunts for which actor in every movie we watch? We don't; you only get five seconds of proof that the person was in the movie at all, and you're never outright told which actor's performance the stuntman augmented.

Not to mention the amount of actors in movies who have had other people sing for them while they lip-synced, the amount of people in plays...it's not like this is a new phenomenon, nor is it a long-forgotten practice to put the "pretty" people in front and the not-so-pretty people in the background. So I don't see the big deal. Neither kid seemed horribly upset about it (both just seem happy that they played some part in the performance), so I don't understand what was so horrific about it, compared to anything else any country ever does in its entertainment industry.

I understand what you're saying, but that doesn't make it right.

And on the topic of stunt doubles, I think that's different because just because they can do crazy crap for a camera doesn't mean they can act. And they aren't used to make an image better or because of how they look. And it seems sort of logical, too. An actor can't jump around and freak out, find someone who can so that no one hurts themselves...

I didn't say it was right. Just that it wasn't necessarily "wrong." Or uncommon. I don't hear uproar about the fact that we don't get told in movie credits what stunt-kid stands in for Daniel Radcliffe during his stunts, so I don't get why this incident is getting any more uproar, except for the fact that people just don't like China that much.

And just because a person can sing, doesn't mean the person can also create a good stage presence. Some people can sing terrifically but look like loonies on-stage.

It's the same concept; using the unknown to do the things the one with the better visual performance can't do.

But they give credit where credit is due, China simply wanted to hide the fact that they think the actual singing girl was unattractive.
