Amongst the new autumn foliage, wandered a lone mouse. He was out of place in the crisp red, brown, orange leaves that crunched under his zori. The mouse - not a young one, but not one of aged status, wore a hakama of light green with criss-crosses top and dark beige bottom, as well as the traditional white tabi, comfortably fit into his zori. Tucked under his right arm was a length of rope. Under his breath, he muttered something about 'kono shakai'. He pushed the stubborn branches out of his way as he trailed throughout the forest, seemingly looking for something.

Magical Girl Homicide Detective Lass was stalking her prey. Next to her, Forensiclad, branches tied to his head for camoflauge, looked fed up. "Why are we following this mouse again?!" he whispered loudly. Magical Girl Homicide Detective Lass shot him a pained look. "Be-cause, he looks like the kind of person who would commit a homicide!" she informed him. Forensiclad rolled his eyes. His "mentor" said that about EVERYONE. Now that she was LEGALLY fighting crime she was ultra-paranoid about it. Back when she was just Magical Girl Love-Love lass, she wasn't. He missed the days when she was just ditzy and not ditzy, paranoid, and murder obsessed. "Shhhh now." the crusader told him. "And let's keep following him."

As dried brown leaves crunched under his feet, Zetsubou continued walking through the heart of the forest. His eyes scanned the trees, looking for an ideal tree. 'A-' he exclaimed, a light sigh under his breath. He approached one large oak tree about three feet in diameter. The tree stood too tall for it's height to be estimated and the crown was impossible to determine under the spilling over of trees into one another. Of course, none of these were truly the reasons for Zetsubou's choice. Instead, there was a sturdy branch within the Zetsubou's reach. Hastily, he approached the tree and removed the rope under his arm. He began to set up the rope and the tree, continuing to mumble something about 'kono shakai', along with some mumbling about how he couldn't believe his students hadn't come to stop him yet.

Magical Girl Homicide Detective Lass gasped. "ForensicLad!" she exclaimed. "He's putting his plan into action!" Forensiclad peered at the man. "It looks like he's commiting suicide, not homicide." he said flatly. Magical Girl Homicide Detective Lass deflated. "Oh." She paused. "Do you think that's illegal?" she asked hopefully. ForensicLad shrugged. "I don't know, maybe." he stated in a noncomittal tone. "I guess we'll find out if the Inspector yells at us about it again." Magical Girl Homicide Detective Lass looked much more cheerful. "Oh-kay!" she said. "Now we can stop him, right?" ForensicLad thought. "Sure, I guess..." he offered warily. "It's pretty obvious what he's doing..." A look of glee crossed Magical Girl Homicide Detective Lass's face. She leapt out of their hiding place in a flash of pink sparkles and inexplicably cheerful theme music, which was being played from a portable CD player by her young ward. "In the name of the Homicide Investigation Bureau!" she called out, running towards the other mouse. "I-SHALL-PUNISH-YOU!"

Zetsubou stopped with a jump. He had been peacefully going about his buisness until he heard cheery music and some bumbling foul yelling that she would punish him. Zetsubou found it ironic. After all, wasn't he punishing himself? He really didn't need any help in that area. Oh well. He turned around to face the now approaching bumble of pink sparkles. It hurt his eyes. In fact, it reminded him of one of his students, but surely his student hadn't been part of the "Homicide Investigation Bureau"... Mumbling a little more, he stepped away from his position near the tree, hoping he would be out of her direction as well.

Gleefully, Magical Girl Homicide Detective Lasss screeched to a halt in front of the miscreant. "Hello, sir!" she announced blithely. "If I am talking to you, you are planning to, are in the process of, or have committed a suicide. We are not sure if this is illegal, but my young ward," she motioned to ForensicLad who waved halfheartedly, "thinks it probably is. Probably." She looked at the other mouse and continued. "So were you aware that you may probably have broken, been in the process of breaking, or were thinking about breaking the law?" she asked. "It's serious business, Mister. Plus it's so hard to clean blood off of a nice outfit like yours, although I guess of course it would match the green, and then again there might not even be any, but you know it's just so... So bothersome." she decided. "You'd have no idea how many outfitss I go through in a work week, let me tell you."

Zetsubou stared at the rambling girl confronting him. Something about the law or something rather. He felt like screaming out, kono onna ni zetsuboushita! But he figured this was not the ideal time. "Blood? There would be not blood." Sheesh, what people didn't know about suicide these days. Zetsubou passes for a moment, tugging his hands on the rope to reel it in. "After all, is suicide considered a homicide?" Zetsubou himself wasn't all that sure. "If it isn't, is it really okay for you to stop me?" Once again, of course, his suicide attempt had been foiled, by these "do-gooder" people.
