Here is a story I've been writing for a few years now. I haven't really writen it from start to finish untill now so I've barely written any. Here is what I have so far. If anyone wants to know the whole deal and background that the story doesn't offer just PM and I'll be happy to elaborate.
Chapter one
The bell rang and everyone scrambled to get out of their seats. Everyone wanted to be the first out of the classroom. They all wanted to go home. Who could blame them? School is for nerds, right?
I had all my things on my desk when it rang, so I now put them into my backpack. I acted like I was in a rush to get everything in, even spilling a book or two on the floor to take the time to pick it up. No one seemed to notice, until my best friend came up. She was smiling slightly, she had no idea that I was stalling on purpose.
Corall Lamose was four foot three, but her boots added a little more to her height. Her hair was jet black and went down to almost her waist. It was straight with just a tad bit of a wave from wearing it up, shiny as the girls have in shampoo commercials, and perfectly cut at the ends. Today, she wore a black corset with yellow accents and black caprice also with yellow accents and black suspenders. The caprice were the kind that were tight to her thighs and had all the zippers and pockets. They fit her figure perfectly and so did the corset. She was wearing at least ten different bracelets on each arm two necklaces--one with a black and yellow butterfly charm and the other with a black stone-- and a black leather studded choker. She wore thick black eyeliner and mascara making her eyes seem to look brighter in stark contrast. They didn’t need it.
Corall’s eyes were yellow. A yellow that made you think snake or cat. They almost glowed in a dazzling kind of way. They seemed to draw you in, and maybe they did. She was powerful enough to have some uncontrollable vampire powers.
“Did you fall asleep again? Or were you day dreaming?” She said jokingly. Her accent was thick French. It almost added to how pretty she was. Almost like she had to be French or the illusion was lost.
Since Chobok was in the France reign of Vamptoria, there where a lot of French speakers and accents. I was Romanian and French. French on my mother’s side and Romanian on my father’s side. The thought of my parents made me forget all about heritage and accents and so I continued to gather my things, a little quicker now. I didn’t want Corall to get suspicious.
“Day dreaming,” I said. I didn’t have to look up to know there was a small smile on her face.
“Do you want any help?” She asked. I shook my head and loaded the last two books into my bag. “I was wondering if you wanted a ride home today.”
I stood up and bent down to get my bag. I straightened back up, bag in hand and looked at her.
“Corall-,” I started to whine.
“Please? What can it hurt? I let you walk home yesterday,” Corall said, interrupting me. She started to say more, so I held up a hand to stop her.
“Fine,” I sighed “I’ll let you take me home.”
Corall’s face lit up and she smiled again.
“Yay!” She said bouncing on her heels slightly. She laughed a bit telling me she was just joking when she bounced, she never really did that sort of thing. If she did, it would be a fall from grace so to speak, and that was not a good thing for the Princess of Vamptoria.
I stood up and slung my book bag over one shoulder and headed toward the door with Corall close behind.
We headed down the two flights of stairs to the ground floor of the school. The school was now mostly empty except for a few stragglers and the two of us. We walked out the big main doors and into the parking lot. A limo sat parked taking up three spaces. Before that, three other girls stood waiting.
The first one I noticed was Shantell Aqua. She had natural bleach blonde hair with pink highlights and bright blue eyes you could swim in. She was wearing a black sweater and a black and pink plaid mini-skirt over black and pink striped knee high socks and black boots that went half way up her knees. They buckled in three places. Thick eyeliner and mascara bordered the eyes and blue eye shadow accented the blue in her own eyes, making them seem brighter and bluer.
The other two girls were the twins, Gemini and Capricorn Reece. Gemini’s hair usually went down to her shoulders and Capricorn‘s just below that, but today Gemini had her hair in a ponytail. Gemini dyed her hair, so unlike her sisters‘ -- which was dark brown-- Gemini’s hair was jet black. Gemini wore a black T-shirt with red Chinese writing, roughly translated, it read ‘Happiness, Peace, Love’. She also wore black jeans she had rolled up to expose black combat boots.
Capricorn wore a black button up shirt with the long sleeves rolled up to her elbows. She wore dark blue jeans that were slightly bleached in the fronts so the pants had both light and dark colors.
Both the twins wore black eyeliner and mascara around their smoky grey eyes. Neither of them wore eye shadow.
The last person was on the end. She stood kind of off to the side as if she didn’t want to be noticed. And it was completely like her to want to go about life unnoticed. She wore a plain black tank top dress with a few holes in it, black stockings with runs in them, and an old pair of black combat boots. She had black eyeliner smeared under and above her eyes. It always got wiped off as the day went on because the eyeliner she got was so cheep. Black nail polish was on her fingernails and was chipping off in little bits. Under her nails was the usual dirt. She also wore one necklace made of black silk ribbon with an opal charm hanging from it. Corall and I had both pitched in to buy it for her birthday. She deserved something nice in her life.
Raven was one of my best friends next to Corall. She was quite and shy. She lived with her grandmother down the street from the school in one of the poor zones of Chobok. I lived in the other. Raven was more poor then me. He grandmother had a hard time keeping jobs and Raven struggled to keep her own job stocking shelves at the nearest grocery store. She got free food out of it from the things that were going to expire and damaged items, along with a small salary. It was enough to get her and her grandmother barely by.
Corall and I kissed each of them on the cheek except Raven, who didn‘t really like the whole hugging and kissing thing. When that was all taken care of I spoke.
“Do you two work today at Le Café?”
“Oui. Mother has us working all week.” Gemini said. I nodded.
Le Café was the small coffee and tea shop the Reece family owned. They made a living off the shop and so the twins where obligated to work there after school and on weekends. They got paid like an allowance and their parents let our band, Childish Intentions perform every other Friday.
Everyone but Corall was in the band. Corall spent too much time being Princess. She was lucky enough to be allowed to go to this public school. Shantell sang lead, Capricorn played piano and keyboard, Gemini played electric guitar, Raven played bass and I played drums. The regular gigs gave us a lot of good rep and we had a lot of fans now. When we played, the small café would be packed.
Small talk was exchanged for a few more moments then we all said our good byes and went off on our own separate ways.
“Don’t forget about rehearsal at my place tomorrow!” Shantell reminded us as she climbed into the passenger seat of her mothers car. Her mother waved us good bye and drove off. I watched Capricorn and Gemini disappear into a crowded bus and then turned to the limo.
Raven climbed in the limo followed by Corall then me. Corall had volunteered to give Raven a ride to work today since I was getting a ride too. Sometimes me and Raven walked together on days she had to work since she was going to same way I was. The limo started up and we where on our way.
My house was the first stop. I said good bye to Corall and Raven then got out of the shiny black limo. I watched it drive off then turned to the mobile home I hated to call my house. There was no car in the simple gravel drive way. My mom was at the strip club she worked at most likely.
I took the key out of my pocket and unlocked the front door. Once inside, my first reaction was to lock the door again. I did so then headed to the mini fridge to get a soda, then the small pantry cabinet for a few cookies. Then I sat down on the ugly lumpy green recliner to watch one of the few channels we had in black and white. I was waiting for the hundred year old television to just explode and finally die from its long abused life. None the less, it was noise and it filled the quite whirr of the air conditioner. At least we had an air conditioner.
I had left my back pack next to me on the also lumpy love seat. The love seat was blue with many stains and tares in it. I took out my home work and began the rest of my afternoon.
***
The mobile home is quite inside at night when the TV is turned off. The only sound is the constant sound of the air conditioner. A few dogs bark next door and I heard a car door shut. My neighbor was probably leaving for work.
I had my dinner sat out in front of me and the history book open off to the side. Dinner tonight was left over mushroom pizza and another can of soda. I took a bite then read a paragraph of the history book. Bite, paragraph, bite, paragraph. I was finished with the pizza before I finished with the chapter. I guess I better take smaller bites next time. That, or Madame Bernard needs to assign shorter homework to us.
I finish my soda quickly and burp, then pick up the book and walk to my room. I leave the plate and soda can on the table. The two of them had friends, there where other dirty plates and cups and bowls all about the kitchen. Some of the dishes I was afraid to look into for fear of what might be growing in them.
Once at my room, I closed the door out of habit even though no one is home. My room is barely big enough for my bed to fit in it. There is enough room where I stand for a small dresser and the door to my also small closet. The little patch of floor I have is covered with old wrappers and dirty cloths. I needed to get to the Laundromat. I usually put it off for a while because it was so far away. I wad through the mess and climb onto my bed.
I finished the chapter and then realized I needed to write a summary on the chapter. My back pack was still in the living room. I got up and waded through the mess again, opened the door and walked to my backpack.
As I bent over to get it, I felt the headache starting to come on. I had only a few seconds to stand up straight and get to the couch before the headache hit me full on. I didn’t make it and the headache brought me to the floor clutching my forehead. It felt like it always did. Like my head was trying to split itself into two. The headache grew stronger and I swallowed back a scream. I had my eyes closed shut to the point I thought they might be stuck that way later.
Then I started to hear the voices. Almost thousands of them. Everyone’s thoughts in the area of the mobile home park. The voices were so mangled I couldn’t make out just one and the headache was still so intense I couldn’t focus enough to concentrate on just one.
One second, I was in pain and ready to scream, the next second, the world had vanished and everything was calm and quite I was in the dark and couldn’t see anything. Then, color began to swim into my view.
I was in an ally behind a small stretch of houses. The one in front of me was falling apart. Paint was chipped off in long big areas, weeds cluttered the house all around so you couldn’t see if the house had a basement or not. Knowing this part of Chobok, none of the houses had a basement and no more then a room or two not including the bathroom and main room.
The house had no fence and since this was the back I couldn’t see the address nor recognize who’s house this might be. I took a few steps forward. The way my body moved was different. I was not in my own body!
Once I realized this, I came back to my senses. I opened my eyes, gasping as I came back from the vision. Back into my own house, my own body.
I stood up breathing heavily. My heart was beating hard and my hands were shaking. I went to the mini fridge and took out a small pack out blood. I sank my fangs into it and drank until the package was crumpled and empty. Then I threw it away into the over flowing garbage. I felt a little better now.
I had never had a vision where I wasn’t in my own body. The thought scared me. It was bad enough seeing what was going to happen to me. I didn’t want to see someone else’s life. I picked up the phone, ready to call Corall. But I looked at the clock first and found it was late. Corall would be sleeping, I didn’t want to bother her now. I would tell her tomorrow.
