~The Introduction~

Welcome to Muggle Studies! This class will help you learn about the strange creations that muggles use in their daily life, their lifestyles, and much more! Now I know muggles are quite peculiar ones, but they are people just like you and I! They’re simply a bit more eccentric in their means of living! Don’t worry, I’m sure you’ll find this class to be one of the most interesting classes you’ll be taking!

~The Lesson~
“Fairy Tales”

Muggles are quite the strange characters, as you all know. They don’t believe in magic, and think that witchcraft and wizardry is just a bunch of “fairy tales”. Now you all know that fairies don’t speak human tongue, but muggles have the strangest notion that they can write long tales. This is a tad confusing for everyone here, I know, but you’ll catch on soon. You see, “fairy tales” is the name that muggles decided to give the children’s stories. They don’t read the stories which you’ve all grown up on, instead reading strange works of fiction which, if looked in a wizarding perspective, is completely inaccurate.

Their “fairy tales” don’t always have fairies in them, and when they do, the fairies often vary in appearance. The typical fairy in muggle stories looks just like a human, but are about the same size as the average fairy. (If you don’t have much education about fairies, I recommend you go to Care of Magical Creatures, there is a lovely lesson on fairies this month!) They often have powerful magic, even carrying their own wands. Wands often do not look like our own, instead being a colorful stick with a star on top. (Muggles consider stars to be good luck)

Then there are creatures called “fairy godmothers”, who often help out the main character (normally a beautiful maiden). They seem to have the same power we have, even being the same size as the average human. “Fairy godmothers” are either depicted as a beautiful young woman, or an old grandmotherly character. It’s unsure as to why they’re called fairies, but fairy godmothers are often popular characters in muggle’s fairy tales.

There are many more strange versions of our own magical creatures. Most people have grown to believe that the muggle stories are due to muggles having seen the creatures before the Ministry enforced the Muggle Protection Act. This is the most probable case as most of the “classic” stories originated hundreds of years ago, where muggles often came across magical creatures.

~The Homework~

Worth 15 points!
For homework, each one of you will be required to take one of the muggle fairy tales out of the pile to the right. You are to read the story and, as best as you can, explain the story in one paragraph. Each paragraph can be no less than five good, full sentences. In another paragraph you will point out any magical creatures in the story. Compare the muggle’s interpretations of magical creatures to actual magical creatures as well as write your opinion of the story.

Private Message me the homework, and they will all be pinned up for our next lesson.

~More Information.~

You may do this homework until Monday, August 18th. Homework will not be accepted after that, and on Tuesday all homeworks will be posted for your reading pleasures. (If you do not wish for your homework to be posted up, tell me! I don't mind : D) These will be up and open for discussion until Monday, August 25th. On that day I will put up a very easy quiz worth an extra 5 HP. This quiz will be optional, although I recommend you take it! Once the quiz is posted up, you will private message me your answers. You will have until the end of the month to give me the quiz.

Quizzes will get harder, as will the homework, so I recommend you try to get "easy" house points now!

Good job on the homework [ Geeker ]! I enjoyed it.
You have actually been the only one to hand in the homework so far though. I hope to get more papers in.
