With the recent assassination of the emperial family, excepting Lady Trysten, the country is in turmoil. Many doubt the abilities of the youthful Empress and believe that they should turn to the council at this time. Some are hopeful that the young empress will surprise them all. The Empress herself discovered the assassin in her younger sister's room. She had awoken from a nightmare and run to her sister's room to find it was true. She apprehended him herself and interrogated him. He finally told her that it was King Rayne of Vvraeden that had sent him. Trysten was shocked, but the council confirmed his story. They suggested to the empress that she demand compensation from the king or, preferably, declare war.
Empress Trysten plans to visit the king in Dalstad to discuss the assassinations and a way to remedy the problem. A small party is travelling with her. Most of them employed by the council.
Over the last month Servants to the council and guards in the prison have been disappearing. Empress Trysten has placed Her 'spirit' guards in both places, much to the council's dislike. Because of this many are becoming suspisiouse of a cover up and most who believe that believe that the council has become corrupt.
