I'll admit, it happens to me occasionally. Heh. I remember having one where I woke up freaking out about some of my cities getting conquered playing Warlords (which shows you how old I am ... aren't they on like Warlords IV or something by now?).
I had a weird one last night where some of my friends and I were trying to protect Aeris from some ... ninjas? I think. It was weird. I don't remember much of it now.

(*cough* Unsavory thoughts and visions of Kratos aside... xDDD)
Here's one that doesn't make sense, which I had quite a long time ago. I was walking through the Meteor Herd stage from Sonic Adventure 2, then for some odd reason, I started turning into Shadow. o_o
And in a dream some time after that, there was one where I "woke up" as the character Ivan from Golden Sun. And it was very realistic. Pretty awesome, aside from the awkwardness of being in the body of a boy. xd
Oh yeah, and some Tales of Symphonia dreams I feel like sharing. biggrin
In one of them, I'm standing on a field in front of Iselia next to Genis, and Lloyd's twinblades are at my feet (couldn't tell which ones they were; they were sheathed). Lloyd himself had rollerblades on and twin popguns in his hands (I wonder myself where he got them O___o). He was skating around and doing flips (quite deftly, for someone on rollerblades O_____O;; ) while mouthing off gun sounds and something to the extent of "Death to all who oppose me!" Genis looks up at me with that "jeez what an idiot" look and says, "He's been playing too much Shadow the Hedgehog." I was about to blurt, "YOU GUYS HAVE VIDEOGAMES HERE?!" but before I could, Lloyd suddenly shouted "CHAOS BLAST!!!"...and actually did it. eek Genis and I ducked and covered behind a boulder.
Another revolved around Zelos. It was set here in the real world. I don't know how he got there or even why he was following me around. o_o;; Anyway, I was on a train platform with him, running to board the first car of the train. There was a strict rule stating that first cars are only reserved for women, children, and the elderly, but I didn't want to ride in any other part of the train because it gets crowded and uncomfortable. So I told Zelos to wear a scarf to hide his Adam's apple, so that the guards would mistake him for a flat-chested girl. xd That went off without a hitch, but as soon as we took our seat in the train and more women boarded, his eyes did the heart thing and he went, "Ooooh...ladies..." and grinned. I facepalmed and muttered to myself, "Maybe this wasn't such a good idea after all."
Finally, this very vivid one I've had involving Kratos. It remains one of my favorite dreams to this day, even though the mood was kind of scary. eek
I was at the college I used to go to because my friends invited me over for Anime Night, which took place in the part of the Student Center that was the Rotunda. I was talking to my friends near a pay phone (don't remember what about, though) and then Kratos (of course, dressed up as he normally is, in his default purple outfit) came up behind me and tapped me on the shoulder. The odd part is that my friends looked on him like he was just a normal person in this world.  Oh, well.
So then, I turn around and say, "Yeah?" Kratos says, "I need to talk with you outside." "Huh, okay." My friends excuse me, and one even smirks at me suggestively, which I had a "WTF?! *eyetwitch*"-type reaction to. We then go around behind a wall, where no one can see us. "So, what do you need me for?" I ask. Kratos had this stern look in his eyes and he takes something out of his pocket (I can't see it) and then SUDDENLY comes at me swiftly and grabs me by the jaw! he squeezes my cheeks to force my mouth open and shoves whatever he was holding down into my throat! It felt like a small, round rock with a rough texture, like pumice. OxO;;
I keel over down to my knees, clutching my stomach because with that rock came a burning sensation that went all the way down. It intensified a few seconds after it hit my stomach, which got me coughing madly. And then, I felt...well not exactly a fever...it was something like I could feel my blood running hot in my veins. And I was still coughing madly, working up a cold sweat. About three minutes had passed, and then the feeling started gradually subsiding, so I stopped coughing.
I let go of my stomach and placed my hands on the ground, breathing heavily. I slowly look up at Kratos, and he extends his hand to me. I take it and let him help me up to my feet. I still felt shaky in the legs and a little light-headed, so I just continued to hold onto his hand firmly. I start feeling a combination of itchiness and tickling on my upper back. What the heck is going on?! I think, then I look over my right shoulder.
WINGS. ANGEL WINGS. They were sprouting from my back. They looked like Zelos', but had a gradient of yellow starting at the base to blue out to the tips. My eyes widened with such shock and awe that I swear they could have popped out of my skull. I turn my head slowly back to Kratos, the expression of shock still on my face and this time, squeezing his hand. He had a faint smile on his lips. I ask, "Wh-what the heck was that for?" He opens his mouth to speak, and....
THAT'S WHERE THE DREAM ENDED...DAMN IT. gonk xd
...Wow. That was pretty long. But I love describing my dreams vividly when I can. 4laugh

The only dreams I have had where I've been someone else in them have all been about my various roleplaying characters. Not anyone you people would know, sadly.

Strangely enough, I had this problem for a while when I first obsessed over Final Fantasy Tactics. The characters, story, and visual style seemed to infiltrate my dreams for over a week. I even felt the constraints of being forced to move like the characters, along a grid, as I dreamt of moving around. It was very surreal, and I usually woke up in the middle of a fight (hence why I remembered so much I think).
This is not the first time or the last, but definitely one of the stranger ones. I play a lot of tactics games. I play a LOT of them, and usually at night before bed. Falling asleep whilst playing Advance Wars left me with odd dreams of technicolor wars with odd cut scenes of the commanders. Very much like the game play, but why was I dreaming it? Also, the dreams were of a very three dimensional, detailed style that far surpassed the actual game--it felt like I was living in a newer, higher resolution version of that game environment.
I do notice that the ones I recall all involved conflict or some continuous struggle, probably a mechanism not just of my mind mimicing the game, but if ot taking what I was doing before bed and keeping that same line of thinking going while asleep. Also, waking up with these conflicts going is rather disorienting, which also adds to their memorability.
I will endeavor to add more material as I recall it, but some of that gets into fever dreams and those get ... odd ...

I had one dream where I was in the Pokemon world & was a trainer with 6 high level Pokemon. Something was going on, & I needed to use my Pokemon to help.
I remember yelling "Go, Noctowl! Fly attack!"
And I don't even like that Pokemon. @_@ So I don't know why I'd have one.
My favorite dream would be the one where I was at some place. It was like a huge mall or something. I remember there were lots of stores, but wasn't like a regular mall.
I had gotten separated from my family, & was wandering around by myself wondering where they were. Suddenly, this brown horse came running by.
I looked & thought @_@ WTF?
Then I hear someone else running. I turn to see who it was & it was Link! He was chasing after his horse, Epona. He stopped & wanted to know if I had seen it. I had to pick my mouth off of the ground to tell him which way his horse went, & to say how much I love him!
He just nodded his thanks & ran off with a "Hiyah!" He had his sword in one hand, & his shield in the other.
I woke up with my mouth still on the ground. xd
