faces? er... I use my insticts to draw, but I usually do these steps, forehead, frontal nose, under-nose, upper lip, underlip, chin, jawbone/cheek, and then ears, all that there is to add is the hair and the eyes, also the mouth, if you want to draw separately, I'll show you one by one...
Here's how for me for Side View looking right (the person's right):
I start with this forehead, looks kinda like a line XD
Next I curve it down to make realistic bend for the skull of a person to work and flows down to the frontal nose should look like an S
Next, I make the under nose, it has to be a curved line, otherwise it looks weird.. unless you are making Pinocchio...
Then I would continue to the upper lip, ppl tend to combine them, but I separate them to make it look good XD
Then continue to the bottom lip, which is more like the upper lip but nearly mirrorized, I mean, imagine the lips of an anime that is about to kiss

Then I continue to the chin, depending on how you lengthen it (Chinny or regular) just don't make it too short, unless it's a chibi ^_^
Then make the cheek, it depends how cheeky the person is XD but it is a smooth line, not straight... just try to make a curve or something, 'cuz our jaw bone ain't straight
the ear is just a piece of cake, but in this example I don't have the ear, since it's cut off by the hair, but here's the final result I added a few hair, the eyes, and the mouth and all those good details ^_^.
