So, I've been getting a heck of a lot of people sending me random PMs asking for donations and comments asking how I got all the stuff on my avi.
My response is usually "STFU" to the donation requests, and "I buy Gaia Cash" to the other question.
But this made me think.
I seem to get more friend requests, guild invites, random PMs, and random comments when my avi is dressed in expensive items.
Does this happen to you all as well? If so, why do you think it is, and what item causes it?

It happens to me when I dress my avi's age. Usually it's caused by the mini angelics or the angelic sash, but really, if I put enough monthlies on it, it's bound to go eventually.
This doesn't happen since I've started to go with the nun avatar more. 3nodding
I generally tell people who ask in PM that I can donate a little, but despite my appearance, I'm broke, which is usually quite true; I have stuff, I'm just not good at hoarding Gaia gold. I tend to give it away more than save it.
Guild invites almost never come to me based on clothes alone. This is probably because I live mainly in ED, and if anyone there wants me in a guild, it's based on what I say and not how I look. The random comments though, yeah.
Although the olympics did overturn that trend; I got a LOT of response to the nun look there. biggrin

I really do love your current avi, Byaggha. It always made me happy when I saw you in the event forums, to be honest. XD
I'm mostly a Chatterbox and Writers forum regular, so that may be part of my problem. I'm a bit hyperactive at times, and the CB is one of the places I can effectively exercise that part of me without getting in trouble for it. The Writers forum lets me help out others in need, as well as giving me ways to overcome writer's block.
CB is my main cause of problems, I'm sure. sweatdrop

I'm not sure the Chatterbox is the whole problem, really. I think that everywhere on Gaia, there's people who will gladly assume that someone with more stuff on their avatar is wealthier and therefore willing to share the wealth. It's kind of a goofy conclusion, as most people (even if they do have the wealth) aren't inclined to share with completely random strangers who PM them and beg for gold. xd

Very true, very true. I've actually been considering donating to someone I'd seen in a thread before and had them PM me asking for a donation. I was kinda upset by that, and didn't donate like I had planned to. I mean, sometimes I donate to people who are making art or who have a birthday coming up soon or something, but not the people who beg.
I had a guy ask me earlier today "well how much did it cost for you to buy all that?", on the subject of my current avi, minus a few items.
I replied "Well, I donated for most of it, but a heck of a lot of gold has passed through my hands. sweatdrop I also bought the Alruna's Rose with Cash, as well as the Furugasa and Death Whisper. So, $15 for the MCs, $20 for the Cash Shop items, and a smidge of gold for the others, discounting the Yellow Body Dye, which was the thing on this avi that cost me the most gold." This was before I bought my second Alruna's and the two imps, which add about $11.50 to my cash total. I spent like, no gold on this avi, really, and people just assume that I had the gold for all the items on it.
While I'll readily admit that I buy Cash Shop items so I can sell them later if they inflate, I am by no means rich. I've got about 11k, total, which is all tied up in a quest. Even though my avi's worth two and a half mil, I've got almost none of that in pure, and I <3 my items.

According to TekTek, I'm currently worth well over 82 million gold. You'd never know this based on what I commonly wear, or my pure total, which is about 300 right now. xd
I give away gold frequently, so I'm always broke. I don't generally give to people who PM me, but to quest threads. This is probably a personal bias; I don't think someone who PMs me out of the blue begging deserves my gold as much as thread maintainers. Thread maintainers prove they're willing to work for it, guys who PM me just want a work-free handout.
I did earn most of this stuff by being here for so long, had it given to me by friends or bought it in the form of monthlies. I think I've bought at least two of those for every month I've been active; I keep a minimum of two of them (one for each item, more if I want to equip more of them) and hold one for later emergency liquidation.
I've not bought cash so far, but I've been fairly lucky at getting my hands on most of the cash shop stuff I wanted through liquidation of the stuff I didn't want anymore. With careful gold redistribution among my own inventory, I generally do alright for myself.

That's a lot of gold.
I like avi art, so I blow some gold on that. I also tend to just randomly buy things because...I can. I never sell my items unless I have duplicates. I'm a hoarder. D=
I try to get a lot of gold built up, and then...I just end up blowing it on one thing or the other. I have gold ADD or something. I'm trying to get the body dyes, so I'm semi-focused right now. I've built up 11k over the past week or so, plus the ink.

I rarely get those PMs.
It's probably because I rarely go outside the Art Freebie forums and any threads that I participate in. And my outfits usually rarely have a lot of the expensive items on. XD Probably two or three max most of the time.
Although I do get random guild invites sometimes. .____.;
But, the times where I usually do get those PMs is if I'm wearing my w.anklets and staff of the angels or have a quest thread showing that I have a large amount of gold on hand. (>___> I should start lying about that.)

*nods like hell*
T-T....i love everyone but its soo annoying. I usally dress like a new person so that people wouldnt treat me like a bank. ALTHOUGH i have noticed i get treated like crap just because i looked like a n00b..the way people feel they are superior to someone who has just started out is just...well idiotic. Everyone has to be a n00b at some point on gaia O.o...
anyway yeah people just assume i have gold, when in fact i do but im not about to spend it on you XD! is my usual answer. AND Lying is a great thing to do..
* sorry lil durem nun, forgive my sinful slander*
but pretending your poor usually works. XD

I understand about the poor thing, believe me. Like I said, I get asked for money directly a lot less when I dress like a nun. People assume I'm broke, or that it's some kind of bad karma to ask a nun for cash. xd
