Sonic The Hedgehog - a drifter who lives as he wants, and makes life a series of events and adventures. Unfortunately, this often leads to feuds with Knuckles the Echidna. Sonic hates oppression and staunchly defends freedom. Although he is mostly easy-going he has a short temper and is often impatient with slower things. Sonic is a habitual daredevil who is honest, loyal to friends, keeps his promises, and dislikes tears. He took the young Tails under his wing like a little brother, but is uninterested in the marital proposals from Amy Rose. In times of crisis, he focuses intensely on the challenge as if his personality had undergone an astonishing change. -
Miles "Tails" Prower - a very sweet-natured and humble fox; who, before he met Sonic, used to be picked on because of his twin tails. As a long time friend, he admires Sonic and dreams of being just like him. Though he lacks courage, he wants to prove he can be counted on. He loves mint candy, tinkering with machines, and flying mechas. Tails has a fear of thunder and a tendency to ramble. -
Knuckles The Echidna - as the last survivor of his clan, Knuckles lived most of his life in seclusion on Angel Island, an island floating in the air; and as such he is something of a loner. His inexperience with off-islanders leaves him very honest, and also gullible. Knuckles is shy around girls; while some official sources claim that Rouge the Bat has a secret crush on Knuckles that she would never admit to. Although he is cool and determined in battle; his short temper gives rise to situations in which Knuckles, often instigated by the trickery of Dr. Eggman, begins fighting Sonic the Hedgehog. Additionally, Knuckles has been tasked all his life as being the Guardian of the Master Emerald, as only descendants of his tribe are capable of controlling it. If Sonic exemplifies the wind, then Knuckles is the mountain: stern and anchored to his duty. Although they started as antagonists, Knuckles sees Sonic as a friend, he finds Sonic's adventurous lifestyle enviable and considers him a rival. He also is described as hating strong light. Various literature from the early games list his favorite food as being fruit, or to be more specific, grapes. -Sigmaflamewave
Amy Rose - the bright and overly cheerful self-appointed girlfriend of Sonic. She loves soft-serve ice cream and hates boredom, has a natural initiative, and a strong competitive streak, but gets into trouble often. Whenever Amy and Sonic are somewhere together she says, "*sigh* Wouldn't that be... romantic?" With her strong sense of intuition and great passion Sonic has difficulty escaping her. -
Cream The Rabbit & Cheese - portrayed as being naive because of being brought up like a princess by her mother, Vanilla. She always politely minds her manners but sometimes acts childishly. She is always found with Cheese, who distinguishes himself from other Chao with a red bow-tie, and he often attacks for Cream by ramming into her adversaries. Cream can achieve flight for short periods of time by flapping with her two large ears. The character of Cream was conceived as a "sweet girl", so Cheese was created to avoid having her physically attack enemies to keep that trait. -
Christopher Thorndyke - the son of Nelson Thorndyke, the CEO of a fictional engineering corporation, and his wife, actress Lindsay Thorndyke (born Lindsay Fair). His parents do not spend much time with him due to their own hectic lifestyles and he was mostly raised collectively by his grandfather Chuck Thorndyke and the house servants Mr. Tanaka and Ella. -
Rouge The Bat - a jewel thief who gets caught by the government while looking for a Chaos Emerald. Despite previous jewel thefts, it signs her on as an agent, even allowing her to keep her stolen gems. Teamed with a human agent named Topaz, Rouge sets out to acquire the Chaos Emeralds and challenge Dr. Eggman. She often spies on Eggman from the rafters of his bases. -
Doctor Eggman - experimenting with Chaos Emeralds when Sonic attacks his tower base. Eggman's experimental machine malfunctions after being damaged, and the entire cast is sent to Earth via a giant Chaos Control. Eggman decides to conquer this new world instead, and repeatedly clashes with Sonic while looking for the Chaos Emeralds. -
Shadow The Hedgehog - created long ago by Prof. Gerald Robotnik to be the Ultimate Life Form. Sharp witted and seemingly always on the edge, Shadow is described as the dark incarnation of Sonic the Hedgehog. Once he has set himself to a goal, he will do whatever it takes to accomplish it, regardless of any danger. After the trauma of the death of his first closest friend, Maria Robotnik, Shadow strives to fulfill his purpose and keep the promise he made to her, despite his general loathing of mankind. Although his relationship with Sonic seems to have developed from antagonistic to friendly rivalry, animosity from not understanding their different mindsets continues. Shadow is ageless and immortal. However, Shadow shares a lot in common with Sonic. Although Sonic's speed is described as "second to none," Shadow can skate at speeds fast enough to rival the speeds the world's fastest hedgehog can run. He can also perform spin attacks common to Sonic, which are a variations on the tendency for hedgehogs to roll into tight balls for protection.
