I love how adorable and genuninely pretty Lolita fashion is.
I'm going to get my first real Lolita pieces soon. I wish I could make my own...
Has anyone read The Gothic and Lolita Bible?

I got volume two of The Gothic and Lolita Bible today and it has a pattern for a cute skirt and blouse. I need to learn to sew! gonk

Heh. I'm in the Reader's Snap in Vol 2 of the English one.

As for the patterns that they put out-- the blouse in Vol 2 is too over the top with cheap lace/design (it's stolen from Marble, which is a pretty hideous brand 90% of the time). Balloon collars really aren't very flattering on people, and something like a Peter Pan collar (like so) is more standard for Lolita, anyways (Or a high neck).

The skirts are wonderful, though (if you don't use the same bright fabric for the polka dot one. That's a little hard to coordinate with, but pink x white or something like that would be sweet). smile
Once you have a basic knowledge of sewing, it's actually very easy to put together a simple gathered waist skirt, and I'd be happy to help anyone who wanted to try.

That's so cool that you're in the book.
I like the blouse even if it is kind of tacky and unflattering. I don't know why. mrgreen

Is In the Starlight a decent quality brand? I was shown some of their dresses and I'm thinking of ordering from them when they reopen.

They have good quality, yes. smile I don't know about how they will be once they reopen but they've improved a lot of their designs and quality over the years. Their best item, though, has always been their petticoats.
Other than ITS, there's also FanPlusFriend (based in Hong Kong), who is a little more questionable with certain designs as they also sell cosplay and there has been trouble with their standard sizing. If you order from F+F, always always take advantage of their free custom sizing to have things made to your measurements.
Anna House is a brand based in Hong Kong (prices are in HKD, not USD, so don't freak. It's actually really cheap) that's also very good, and they also offer the ability to do some customization.
Candy Violet is another American brand like ITS, but most people seem to shrug at them for anything other than their printed casual shirts or if you need a REALLY fluffy petticoat (great for super heavy fabrics). Not a bad brand, but they're not viewed as anything spectacular-- mostly because of their pricing. For only a little more, most people prefer the more creative designs from Japanese brand labels.

You're always going to get what you pay for-- so going with cheaper alternatives won't be the same quality as what you might purchase from a -good- Japanese brand (or certain seamstresses based in America even), but it's all still pretty nice.

For used Japanese brand clothing (punk/lolita/general street fashion), there's also Closet Child. They do ship overseas and they accept paypal, but you can't use the "cart" method.
Updates with new items are on Tuesdays and Fridays, if you can manage to snag an item before it sells out. The site IS in Japanese, but it's easy enough to run it through an online translator.

If anyone actually decides to order from them, they're welcome to message me with any questions on how to do so. smile

Wow, thanks again mrgreen
I'm going to wait to see what In the Starlight has before I make any decisions. You've been really helpful though.

The jumperskirt's my new favorite thing to wear. It's so comfortable and still cute.
