 [right next door] Redina [mr. sunshine] Nathaniel || Anthony || Mason [approved names] Nate, Nathaniel, Mason [not-so-fond-of names] Natie, Natie Boy, Miser, Anthony, Neil [others think that he’s] the boy next door, in another world at times, thoughtful, a ball of sunshine, a bit introverted, laid-back, a little clumsy [but he thinks he] doesn’t know himself once in a while, will do anything for a friend, has a mind all his own, is expressive to his own will [my heart beats that of a] male [and my voice sings for the] girls [home sweet home] Ravenclaw [oh, lovely day] February 25th [see, bright stars] Pisces [my, happy years] fifteen [year at hogwarts] 5th [mom and dad] Melissa and Shane Mason [bloodline] Muggleborn [wand] thirteen [inches long, made of] ash [wood, with a core of] unicorn hair [come to me, my] Fallow Deer [best pet in the world] an elf owl [named] Elric [quidditch] No, but “I’m still thinking about it.”  [outward aspect] He has a fair complexion similar to his mother’s, though a bit more tan than hers. His face is angular set, his jaw defined. Pale green-blue eyes and rough light brown eyebrows settle on uppermost part of his face, covered by his messy top of light brown hair. His nose is angled straight, and thin lips below them. His straight teeth are shown when he smiles (which is 99% of the time). He’s not conceited or anything, but he gets a bit conscious of his looks, even though people say he looks just fine. But he’s content with how he looks, and sometimes even jokes about it.
Nathaniel stands at 6” and weighs a good 140 pounds. He’s not exactly lanky, but he’s not that muscular either. He keeps up his weight by doing sports at home with his neighborhood friends, like participating in running, dance, or basketball. Due to an accident in his childhood, he has a rough scar on his right shoulder blade, but he doesn’t show it to anyone to remind them of what happened. It’s covered deep beneath his clothes, and it doesn’t hurt as much when someone applies pressure to it.
His clothing style is simple, a bit rock influenced. He likes to wear polos and sweaters and jackets, but shirts work fine, too. Nate makes sure to wear something that doesn’t show his scar, of course, but sometimes his clothes let slip of that. He has a collection of necklaces and belt buckles, so he always makes use of it, even though it takes up most of the space in his trunk sometimes. [the beginning] Melissa was a Muggle, not knowing of her boyfriend’s magical experience until after a year of dating. They had met on a street in London as she was running to an appointment, bumping into him as he left a certain dark door. She never knew who he was, but they started to talk, and then later, were dating. Melissa was curious whenever she was with Shane, because rather peculiar things happened whenever she was with the clumsy wizard. She never asked, but knew, somehow soon, he’d tell her. Because she knew that he loved her, and she loved him back. It happened at his house where they were having dinner together. Without warning, Shane’s owl, Alfie, darted through the kitchen window, landing on the counter. A package of brown paper was dropped, a rather weird sound coming from in it. Shane’s eyes widened in fear, expecting a shrilling scream – Melissa wasn’t that fond of surprises at times. But instead, he heard her musical laugh. That night, it was the time she was finally in need of some explanation, but she wasn’t angry at all. Melissa was patient with Shane, and after a few years, and with the knowledge of his wizardry, they finally got married.
Nathaniel Mason was born February 25, 1975 to Melissa and Shane. He was the youngest son of theirs, having an older brother, Luke, four years older than himself. Shane was a rather shy fellow, and Melissa was a bit more outgoing. Luke had inherited a mixture of the two, becoming a solemn, yet hard-working, son. But for Nate, he was the same, only his father’s traits being stronger in him. He wasn’t exactly a weak or timid child, but he seemed as if he was in his own world, lost in it. His mother wasn’t worried at all, for she loved her family, no matter how they were. But Shane, being the worry wart that he was, fretted over Nate more than Melissa herself. Over time, his parents introducing him to their friend’s children, he loosened up, turning into a more talkative child, one with a constant smile and face that never seemed to show sadness.
But why did Nathaniel never wanted anyone to be sad? It all happened when he was five-years-old. His family was at the park, Luke hanging out with his friends playing basketball, and little Nate trying to catch up with them. The ball bounced out of the park, and persistent Nate offered in his squeaky voice that he’d go run off and get it. Although he wasn’t all that fast, he knew he had to try and impress his friends and family. But he did the opposite. The ball reached across the road, and by the time Nate had it in his hands, a car nearly crashed into him. The injuries weren’t that major, but it left a scar on his right shoulder blade, something his father couldn’t heal that quickly. The faces Nathaniel saw that day – from his brother’s friends, Luke, his parents – made him realize that he shouldn’t do anything to make anyone sad anymore, or worried about him. The rough scar still remains, but it’s always covered underneath his clothes.
Within time, seven-year-old Nate saw Luke about to go shopping with his father. But for some reason, Nathaniel wasn’t allowed to go. He asked his mother where they were going. Shane and Luke paused at the door, staring at Nate. His mother looked at him with regretful eyes. “It’s time we tell him the truth, Shane,” she told her husband. Luke already knew what they had to tell his baby brother. Their father was a wizard, though their mother was just normal, a Muggle. Luke received a letter from the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, where he would attend school there from now on for his next seven years. Nate wondered if he would ever go with his brother as well, if he would become a wizard like him. But there was always a chance, his father said, that Nate would be like his mother. Only time would tell.
The next four years passed by rather slow for Nate. Luke came home during breaks and over the summer, being able to spend some time with his baby brother. Luke knew of the chances that Nathaniel wasn’t going to be able to attend Hogwarts with him, but he still hoped. But they didn’t know that Nathaniel didn’t care either way, whether he was to be a normal Muggle or a wizard. As long as he was happy, and the people with him were, too, everything would be okay. Finally, on an afternoon of February, a letter was sent to the Mason home – Nathaniel’s acceptance letter for Hogwarts. Nathaniel’s family celebrated, knowing that they now had three wizards in the family.
During his years at Hogwarts, along with the help of Luke, Nathaniel was constantly the easy-going guy that he was. There were times when he would become quiet, thinking to himself for a minute to get everything straight. Other times, he would mess up, but although he was flustered, he was still happy. He was a bit sensitive, but he thought to make better use of situations, to keep moving forward. He made friends even before Luke left Hogwarts, making sure everyone he knew was sincerely happy. But all in all, he got the clumsiness of his father, the happiness of his mother, and a world of his own. [personality] Nathaniel is your regular boy next door. He’s thoughtful and caring to the people around him, willing to make anyone smile. He’d do anything – a joke, goofy dance, funny face, or a talk – to make sure people close to him would feel any form of sadness. But other than caring for his friends (and he never forgets to care for himself first), he often reflects on life, wrapping himself in his own little bubble. Most often it pops on its own, making Nathaniel come back to Earth. He’s not often that spacey, but it happens at times.
His father, Shane, was known as the clumsy one of the family, and unfortunately, Nathaniel inherited the clumsiness. He’s not so physically clumsy, but more of using it to bring smiles. Although, he has dropped vials before and made his books fall on the feet of a classmate. Thankfully, his mother, Melissa, was outgoing, which rubbed off to him more than his father did.
Maybe something that Nathaniel wouldn’t admit, though it’s slightly obvious, he’s a bit sensitive. Even though five minutes later after being insulted, he’d reappear with his same smile. He works hard to move on from hard insults, and it has happened before – “What’s a marshmallow like you doing in Ravenclaw?” It happens, but he knows, deep down, he’s smart. Maybe not in academics, or in magic (though he is decent), but he’s smart in life.
Nathaniel’s also an artistic soul. Though he wasn’t allowed to bring his material instruments like his guitar or drums, the one instrument he can bring is his voice. He fell in love with singing when he saw that he could express himself, as well as use it to make others, of course, smile. It was this way, he thought, that he could remove himself a bit from the world and enter his own. He’s not shy to sing to someone, but there are times when he doesn’t like to reveal unfinished songs – he feels like its story isn’t ready to tell yet, just like his. [likes]

Luke is four years older than Nathaniel. Though Shane was a bit shy and Melissa was more outgoing, Luke turned out to be a mixture of the two; a solemn and hard-working son. He doesn't show it much, but he cares a lot for his baby brother. But Nate's accident opened up Luke's eyes more, wanting to protect him at every second. Even when he found out he was a wizard and had to go off to Hogwarts, his baby brother was still the top priority on his mind. It wasn't much of a relief when he had to tell Nate that his big brother was a wizard, but at least he knew. Luke hoped that four years later that Nate would turn out the same, so he'd be able to keep an eye on him at Hogwarts. Currently, he's living with friends not too far from his parent's neighborhood. * possibly soon; Melissa and Shane
