ROLEPLAYING TERMS:
(Your own personal dictionary)Fade to Black: The ending of a scene as written by the players, but when IC action is presumed to continue – sometimes the thread picks up again after a certain point. Is most generally used when characters are about to have sex, although it can be used for other reasons.
Firewalling: Keeping a player's knowledge, separate from their character's knowledge, so that the character's behaviour cannot be seen to be influenced by information that they should not have
Gary-Stu: Male version of a Mary-Sue
Ghosting: Your character is in one place but somehow you are interacting with people in another area. (This is like being two places in once and not like a telephone).
God-Like: Characters who live forever and cannot be harmed or die. Also a form of godmoding
Godmodding: Making your character do something beyond their abilities. For example you character can't be freaking perfect, like all people they must have flaws. They don't have invincible power, and have no control over other people's characters unless given permission
IC (In Character): Obvious one, posting as your character
Immortality: Immortality (or eternal life) is the concept of living in physical or spiritual form for an infinite length of time. This means that the character must be something of a higher being (angel, demon, elf, vampire in rare cases human THINK OF LOTR) Not to mention physical illness, or being stabbed in the face still effect you. Just because you have external life doesn't mean it can't be shortened.
Mary-Sue (Sue): A (female) character that defies the ‘rules’ of the setting, is incredibly accomplished for no reason, can do things that no other can reasonably do, seeks to make themselves the focus etc.
Metagaming: Bringing OOC knowledge into an IC situation, e.g. knowing that a character really likes ice cream, when it has never been mentioned, and your character has no basis for knowing this fact.
Non-Player Character (NPC): A character that is not important to be created, able to be used by any player, and generally only for a situation e.g. the waitress serving a group at dinner, the student a person bumps into while waiting in line.
OOC (Out of Character): Usually posted in double brackets "(())" and used to indicate you're not posting as a character but rather yourself
Original Character (OC): A character who was created does not appear in the canon source, but was created from scratch by a player.
Poster: The person controlling the roleplaying character
Profile: An outline of what a character is like
RL (Real Life): Short term for describing "Real Life" self explanatory
Roleplaying (RP): The actual action of acting as a character.
Wangst: When angst goes bad: either overboard in its severity (as though things were just added for the ‘drama factor’) - ‘My father ate my bunny rabbit because he didn’t like me!’ - and/or is the continual focus of the character (every thread is designed to showcase the horror of this character’s past). There is no attempt to ‘deal with’ their problems, or any sign of ‘improvement’ or character development beyond things simply getting worse. While some people do wangst over things, it is usually limited to a specific period of time, before they move onto the next stage (whatever that may be). A little angst can be good, but angst for the sake of angst (and dra-ma!) is simply wangst.Intro Terms Rulez Dont's Making etc etc

CHARACTER CREATION DONT'S:Most of the time I will provide an outline for your character and tell you exactly what to do. These are the things in detail I DON'Twant to see because it is very Mary-Sue, or Gary-Stu behaviour.Names: 1. Now I don't personally care what you name your character. However don't call them something lame like. "THE DARK ONE" or "NAME UNKNOWN" if I want a title I'll ask for it, not to mention having no name will enable me to call you Doucheface the rest of the game. I'm usually against Japanese names too but go ahead and use them to your preference, just not overly long ones like "Ryhioduodesudesuchan cake"
Physical Attribute: 2. Okay here's where people get a little overboard. NO ******** HYBRIDS OF MORE THAN 2 THINGS. I can understand say a vampire human sure why not. But heaven help you if you're a fairy/werewolf/mermaid/vampire/turtle/dog/carrot because you are an abomination and should have been killed long ago. You can't be the most beautiful, or handsome creature alive. Your character cannot be a 37867862 million thousand vampire, and look 12. Your character must act their age without being an ANGSTY ADOLESCENT MESS for those teen characters. I do allow characters with the race of a God however with sever conditions.
Personal Traits: 4. This is mostly based on background stories. I see a lot of things go wrong here. Here's all the common life stories that are honestly unoriginal unless you have a FLIPPEN good reason (bad ex: He's an orphan because he killed his family. UNLESS YOU MAKE A BACK STORY GJ you've copied the rest of the angsty teens out there) - abandoned by caregivers: Iffy but if you make it good allowed - sole survivor of a calamity: Near impossible but allowed - physical abuse: Allowed - sexual abuse by a caregiver: Allowed but not often used - rape: Allowed follow the physical attributes though - member of a "despised" class or race: I consider this stupid but allowed - later parent of illegitimate child: Allowed - Unusual birth or unusual experience in early infancy: Uhhh Allowed but don't make it retarded. A completely happy home is allowed too. Your character cannot have more than one quality they're AMAZINGLY good at. (playing music, arithmetic, etc) They can have other qualities they're good at but not amazingly (see godmodding).|
Powers: 5. For every POWER you must have a WEAKNESS Also again no godmodding, and I will tell you if your power/s are inappropriate in comparison to your weaknesses. Also you have to have fears.
Relationships: 6. Not every character thinks you're gods gift to women(or vice versa), and you can't rape people without the others characters permission. You can't expect to befriend everyone or we wouldn't have a plot (Antagonist vs protagonist) etc.Intro Terms Rulez Dont's Making etc etc

Making Your Own:
Yes, because we are all not advanced players I am allowing others to make their own roleplays as long as it follows guild rules&roleplay rules. Also when you do make one, make sure to specify what type of roleplay you want in terms of writing and genre.
For examples you can look at the ones created here, or head over to Barton town for ideas. Go nuts

ROLEPLAY TYPING://Quote: *rolz up n motersikle ateing bun* hi want 2 c** 2 a prty wit me THE LOWEST ABSOLUTELY STAB YOU IN THE FACE FORM OF ROLEPLAY. (alright in other circumstances but never in a roleplay). The people are obvious noobs who have sex with animals. They have TONS of spelling and grammatical errors and are an embarrassment to the whole roleplay community.
Quote: Naovu walked along the dusty and deserted road. Her destination, nowhere & anywhere. Passing a road sign covered in mud and ash, she reached up and brushed off the muck. Midnight city, The sign read and with that she jumped up and punched the air. Excitement filled her head as she said to herself "3 miles, I can make it." This is Probably one of the more simplest forms of writing technique, usually frowned upon by advanced literate players. However this technique is great for beginners, and though may have its fair share of grammar and spelling errors it is easiest set-up sort of roleplay. Sadly these types don't last very long. (Just for fun sort of thing, no long term commitment)
Quote: Rayne's face stared up to the sky, the little light there was outside illuminating on her pale skin. It felt nice to feel some fresh air on her skin, it was very freeing, as free as she could be at with the position she was in. Her feet were only a slight bit out of the door, she was ready to snap back into the house if she needed to. She had got lost in thoughts and was brought back when a slight gust hit her. As a chill went down her spine she began to recoil into mansion. She wasn't quite ready to go into the house but she felt she had been daring enough for one day. This is something I would consider to be semi literate, usually a paragraph including little to none grammatical errors and typos. These are also usually rather easy roleplays to setup but normally don't have that many players. (though more are allowed). Semi literacy is seen as medium ground for roleplayers and is more commonly used.
Quote: When Cain awoke the first thing he saw was the sparkling of dust. Sunlight was streaming through his window giving it the dust the effect of dancing and shimmering through the air. It was sickening.
He pulled himself up into a sitting position and stretched his legs letting his hands wander through the locks of ebony hair that fell upon his pale face. He was still tired. It seemed lately no matter how much sleep he had, his nights were restless and then in the morning he would pay for it. He stared at the empty chair coldly, the conversation he had with Reeve flooding back to him, his annoyance at the man still resided in his cruel smile. "Where is that fool.." he couldn't help but mutter the offense out loud, it always gave him some satisfaction to say what he was thinking. Not much sooner had he uttered the words when the fidgety little maid stalked past the open doorway carrying fresh linen. His cruelty extended on his lips and he called out to her "Could you be a dear, and clean the room, I'm afraid it's a tad dirty," Cain gestured to the dust and pulled his knees to his chest, laying his head upon them. He watched her as she entered the room, and placed the linens on the empty chair. He watched as her face turned crimson and she averted her gaze from his exposed upper half. Instead she busied herself with dusting every corner of the room farthest away from him. The Marquis sighed deeply making her drop the duster on the floor. The clattering that followed turned the girls ears as red as a tomato, Cain pulled the white sheets around his delicate body and moved towards her, wrapping an arm around her he plucked the duster out of the maids flustered fingers. Smoothly he rested his jaw on the tip of her shoulder as he pulled it towards his face for inspection."That should be good," he announced pulling only to hear Reeve politely coughing at the doorway.
The Marquis turned his head lazily and with half lidded eyes pulled away from the girl with an amused look on his face. Her embarrassment was clear as she hid her face and excused herself quickly from the room. "Time to get dressed already?" His innocence act held only bad acting as he slid over to the bed and Reeve sorted through the attire in his wardrobe.
Cain kicked his feet over the side of the bed as he pulled on a pair of trousers and waited for Reeve to finish buttoning his shirt. The reason he wasn't able to do it himself was to an unfortunate burn he had recieved earlier that week. Reeve seemed to be the only one gentle enough as to not tear the scarring skin. As soon as he was in complete order he looked over the schedule prepared for the day. Holding the parchment by his two fingers as if it were a dead rat the Marquis de Carabas tapped his finger on the table where he ate. "Due to unseen circumstances, I may or may not have to cancel some of these plans." Though Cain collected strange looks from his manservant his decision wasn't questions, nor were their any objections.
He had not forgotten about his prior date with the two companions he had met (so to speak) the day before, and was still eagerly awaiting what they would make of his message. He wondered if the two would actually heed what he had said and join him. For a nice lunch perhaps? Then again they didn't seem the pair to be trifled with, and were seemingly clever, from what Cain witnessed. Touching his fork to his bottom lip the Marquis continued to enjoy his breakfast in peace. This is actually one of my own examples. This is a slightly larger example of a literate roleplay. Which usually consists of more than three paragraphs. It can be easy or hard to set up depending on the GM (game master). These have no grammatical errors or spelling mistakes, and only few typos.
Quote: The moon was a quarter full when his parents met. They met on a chance, a happening if you will. Often's mother was visiting France just recently divorced from an abusive relationship, she had turned into a wisp of a thing and was having trouble adjusting to the outside world, a close friend suggested a vacation. With the little money she had kept tucked away from her former husband she made her way to the most romantic place on Earth, Paris. Unfortunately she had no money for a return ticket back to Germany so instead spent her money wisely. It was also well known that she was an extremely delicate and beautiful young woman only the age of twenty-two(she had been wed early in an arranged marriage). Often's father a handsome man had never married being much to busy to indulge himself with a serious relationship and he could never find a girl worthy of his attention, until the two finally caught a glimpse of one another. She sipped coffee from a local cafe and he sat at a nearby table reading the paper, it was getting late and she decided to find a hotel to stay in before dark came, as she collected her things and moved from her table a key fell from her skirt pocket. The slight clanging made everyone stare and look at her in suspicion and embarrassed she left it behind in a rush to leave. He saw the forgotten key and her blond locks twirl and move down the street and picked it up, engraved on it said "The most important thing," checking his watch caught between an appointment and courtesy he decided to chase after her. Sadly he missed he chance to return the key for she was already long gone. Returning to his home he noticed that there was another engraving upon the key it was worn but initials were engraved into the side of the key. Soon after the key became an obsession, at first he had been amused by the riddle but it grew to irritate him, he wanted to know the meaning behind the message. Could it be the key to her house? A secret hideaway? What?! It came to the point where he couldn't bear to not know of the secret. He began to search for the woman dropping by the cafe every day to see if she returned looking through various phone books phoning everyone with the same initials. It almost drove him to a point of madness. She was devastated she had lost her key, she returned maybe an hour later looking for the trinket but when they told her it was no where in sight she gave up. The next week was a point of depression it seemed her whole life was a streak of bad luck; her husband, her home, her family, and now her key. She remembered crying herself to sleep because she had lost it and everything she had known. Gradually she strengthened, she had come to Paris to start over, there were a few promising jobs already lined up for her and she seemed to have colour back in her face again. Her french had also improved and she was finding it more easy to make friends and speak with the locals. Her life seemed to be back on track and improvement from her former one. She was returning home from a job interview when it happened it seemed that her beauty hadn't gone unnoticed. A quarter moon hung high in the air as a group of drunken men made threatening and suggestive slurs and chased her down a few blocks. Of course being drunk they didn't truly mean any harm only wanted to frighten her. Giving up they went back to the bar they had been only earlier thrown out of. She however was scared like a baby chick who had fallen from its nest. She had broken a heel and her hair was a mess and she had torn her skirt. Sitting on a park bench she held her broken heel in hand and began to cry, silent tears streamed down her face it looked like an angel crying. He was in the car, a rough day had befallen him. First he had missed an important business meeting and the cleaner had completely destroyed one of his better suits, not to mention there was still no sign of him finding the woman or solving the riddle. He twisted the key around in his hands a calm expression etched on his face, he rarely got angry he knew how fortunate he was. Sighing he looked out the window only catching a glimpse of blond curls before he told the driver to stop. Before the car had a chance to come to a complete halt the man bolted from the seat and to the park bench where he sat beside her. He in his dark pressed suit, she in a torn skirt and button down shirt her hands hid her face from view. The heel and shoe were in her lap and the man gently took them from her seeing the damage. She looked up and shrank to the other side of the bench looking frightened thinking it was one of the drunkards come to harass her again. When she saw him she immediately apologized and stood up to leave. Without a thought he grabbed her wrist and when she seemed shocked pulled the key from a string around his neck and passed it to her. "Where did you find it?" She asked and he told her he had seen her at the cafe, again he fished in his pocket for a handkerchief and passed it to her "Angels should not cry," he added finally realizing how beautiful she was. In all honesty he had never cared for silly rich women they were fools when it came to love, she was different. Holding her broken shoe he laughed and she joined him and together they held hands to buy a new pair. The riddle of the key no longer mattered, he had found the answer. Often, out of all the stories he had been told as a child loved that one the most. It was a true fairytale. Every time he heard it he begged his mother to show him the key that she kept on a simple chain around her neck. Unlike himself and his father Often's mother had never taken to the fancy lifestyle they kept, Often on the other hand was used to the royal treatment and never thought he should be treated otherwise. From the time of his birth through out his childhood he had been given anything he wanted and spared everything that displeased him, he was head of his own staff of servants ready to jump to his every whim. Often, spoiled rotten as he was believed with all his heart in the story of his mother meeting his father and because of this looked up to his father who even in his old age was still a very handsome and rich man. He didn't see his father on a daily basis, him and his mother took residence in Japan while his father worked in Paris, they wouldn't have done so if they didn't believe Often needed proper education and school. He needed these things in order to take over his fathers business as he grew older. And as Often grew older he was carted around to many different activities by his parents will, he learned to play every instrument imaginable, joined every sport there was and was taught all about life and the things in it. Except one thing, Often had never learned what it was like to live a hard life. He had everything handed to him on a golden platter and soon grew quickly of the serving under that golden cover. However he wasn't one for keeping complete wealth, he wrote checks and gave generous donations to charity events, all without really understanding what it all meant. Besides his wealth Often had always gotten along well with people; a charming boy bubbling with excitement for new things and new people, he was well loved. The years passed him by quickly and Often started to attend a prestigious middle school. He learned many new things about people especially of the female variety, his experience provided him with many eye opening truths about his own life in general. He had never realized that his parents meeting was a chance in a million and that most people in general weren't attracted to the kind of person you were, but what you had. Thus his first terrifying ordeals began. In elementary he was watched over and taught with a gentle guiding hand, his mother had also been ready at hand volunteering often. However in his new school Often was all on his own. In his first year at middle school, Often began to discover girls and also that they seemed to be attracted to him. He was confused as to why for he had never spoken to any of them in choosing. He also discovered that the boyfriends of these girls did not like that. It was difficult for Often to make friends despite his loving and open personality, and the friends he did make were obsessed with increasing their social standing. In his second year he began to receive notes stuffed in his locker, love confessions mixed with threats. Soon Often began to fear for his life, occasionally there would be a group of boys who decided to wait for him after school, and it was hard to wash the blood out of clothing. Ignoring these threats Often instead asked to be picked up after school and driven before instead of walking, the boys soon left him with empty and void threats. However the girls were still a problem. In his last year of middle school used to the heart shaped notes he found inside his locker presents. Someone had found his locker combination and was now using it for their own personal uses. Some were the regular gifts of chocolate and flowers, others scared him; Pictures of him in his backyard, at the store, and pictures of the girls pasted in them. Often started to carry all his school work with him, he hardly used his locker anymore. On one particular day because of Often's tendency to nap, he fell asleep in the library only to awaken and find a gift beautifully wrapped at his table. Seeing his name on the ribbon that wrapped it, he opened it. A small journal lay inside, interested he flipped through it only to find it described his after school and home life, his classes, interests, favorite foods, and every move he made(it even described his nap), most alarming was the last passage at the very back. Carefully tapped in, a bundle of his own hair entwined with a clump of brown hair. The inscription underneath stated, "Together forever". Often immediately bolted out of the library as if he had seen a ghost and the next day transferred schools. After that Often had no need to be alert and constantly in fear. Onwards he worked hard in his studies, everything but business which he had never had a fondness for and became lazy. His true talent lay in student council wanting to make a better school for all his peers, he chose to do this remembering his past experience and wished it upon no one. Popular and handsome Often organized charity events and parties still unknowing of how other people suffered. He acquired few girlfriends attracted to his power and money but the relationships were frivolous and short. There was only one time Often had ever realized that something was missing from his perfect world. Forgetting his phone to call for a ride he was forced to take the bus. It all started well enough he found a comfortable seat and watched out the window at the passing scenery, the only problem was Often had never taken the bus anywhere and soon ended up lost in the worst part of the city no less. He walked around aimlessly ignored by those few people he asked for help, when it started to get dark he started to panic. Shoving his hands in his pockets he sat at the bus station bench reminded much of his mother's story except there was no one to rescue him. Unexpectedly a corner of the bus station that he had mistaken for rags started to move, the bundle obviously hadn't seen him because it started to sing to something it held. It was the most beautiful thing Often had ever heard, the melody was sweet and happy he briefly wondered how someone clothed in rags, dirty, and obviously homeless could sing so lovely. As he climbed on the bus he realized that he had the whole world in the palm of his hand, but he had never been truly happy. He remembered returning home and hoping more than anything that one day he would be as happy as a homeless woman and her baby. ALRIGHT. Few last one. This is another example of my own, HOWEVER this is only a character outline and not an actual post. This character outline was for an advanced literate roleplay, and was acceptable. Usually advanced literate posts are 4-5 paragraphs and up. They consist of HELLA editing, no spelling/grammatical errors, and NO typos. These types of roleplays are hard to setup and usually for people who have been roleplaying quite a while. BTW this is only half of the outline.Intro Terms Rulez Dont's Making etc etc
