Does anyone know the meaning of "Hiei"?? I read somewhere it means "flying shadow" but I just would like to know if that's truely correct or not. Thanks for any help!!!!

I have also heard that he was named after a mountain or something. like, the author-person was kinda lazy, and just named Hiei after the mountain.

"Hiei" means "flying shadow", or "fire shadow", I've heard. About that mountain thing, it was a joke, in a way. Kurama is also the name of a mountain located in Japan.

Yup, Hiei means "Flying Shadow." Kurama and Hiei are both mountains in Japan. I believe that Mt. Hiei had some significance in Rurouni Kenshin, I believe.

[i]YYH volume 7[/i] I don't give much thought to the character names. I flip through the dictionary and combine the kanji I like. Yusuke's name is practically a joke, Kuwabara's name is a combination of two baseball players, Kurama and Hiei's names wre also suprs of the moment."

It's not weird that you named your puppy after Hiei. I named my ferret Hiei! Actually, his full name is "Hiei's-inner-innocence-that-I-ripped-out-put-in-ferret-form-and-locked-in-a-cage", but I just call him Hiei.

Yes, I'm pretty sure it does mean "flying shadow". I've seen it on several sites and on rosewhip.net (which I completely belive is right).
By the way, Hiei and Kurama are names of sacred mountains in Japan, so maybe that's where he got it? Perhaps someday he'll share with everyone the info on how he came up with the names.

I thought it meant swift. Not sure though. But I have there is a mountain called Hiei somewhere. sweatdrop
