QuotesI'm feeling a little inspired at the moment, mostly due to some recent quotes I've been reading and hearing. I figured I would make a thread for everyone to post a quote from a person/book/movie ect. that has inspired you in some way. Also include in your quotes how it inspired you or affected you. ( Don't post lyrics, there's already a thread similar to that here for KoRn lyrics. Any one can feel free to make another lyric thread in regards to other bands, I don't believe we have that yet.) Get quoting!

I'll start. "It was one of those days when it's a minute away from snowing and there's this electricity in the air, you can almost hear it. And this bag was, like, dancing with me. Like a little kid begging me to play with it. For fifteen minutes.

And that's the day I knew there was this entire life behind things, and... this incredibly benevolent force, that wanted me to know there was no reason to be afraid, ever. Video's a poor excuse, I know. But it helps me remember... and I need to remember... Sometimes there's so much beauty in the world I feel like I can't take it, like my heart's going to cave in."~from the motion picture, American BeautyView the scene here. Since I was little and to this day, I have always been fascinated with the smallest, most trivial things in life. The way clouds look, the way the wind blows leaves and trash around and how the grass shimmers when the breeze sweeps over it, how the rain makes everything seem so calm...just all of that. Sometimes I feel like I'm so different from everyone. I see people walk by these things or not even seem to notice the beauty around them. It makes me feel sad and a little lonely, but also I feel so much better about myself by just appreciating these things and being able to see it all. When I saw this scene in this movie, I nearly cried because it was so close to my views.

I'm more influenced by song lyrics - I've neglected my reading for so long and it bugs me -_-. Gah I need to read more or my brain will die crying . But anyway here's one of the quotes from one of my favorite books of all time - Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad:
"The mind of man is capable of anything - because everything is in it, all the past as well as the future. What was there after all? Joy, fear, sorrow, devotion, valour, rage - who can tell? - but truth - truth stripped of its cloak of time."
For some reason, this quote moved me in some way. This whole book is littered with social commentaries and philosophies about the nature of mankind, written in almost poetically and set to the microcosm of colonial Africa during the 'scramble'.
I took this quote to mean that human mind is a marvel, but our emotions can miscontrue and contort anything to the point where the truth will matter not. It is one of humanities great failings, emotions can sometimes get in the way of rationality and the essential and timeless truth of things.

"Because I wanted him to reawaken the evil in my heart. I was the perfect warrior, cold and ruthless! I lived by my strength alone, uninhibited by foolish emotion! But slowly...over the years...I became one of you, my quest for greatness gradually giving way to this life of mediocrity. I awoke one day to find that I had settled down, formed a family...I had even grown quite... fond... of them. Do you understand now? By releasing the evil in my heart, he has freed me of these petty attachments... I wanted to return... to the WAY... I WAS... BEFORE!!!" - Vegeta (Dragonball Z, Buu saga - as it was in the manga) And now prepare for my huge explanation (and believe me, this thing is AWFULLY CONDENSED AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE): As we all know, I'm a huge DBZ fan and the character Vegeta Saiya-jin no Ouji (Vegeta, Prince of the Saiyans) is my favorite fictional character of ALL time across all media. He epitomises the epic struggle some people (me including) face between our actions and our emotions, and dealing with a past that's left us scarred and almost dead to the world. Throughout the series, he's had to deal with a myriad of emotions (or lack thereof); initially starting off as a major villain (the Prince of a nearly extinct race of powerful warriors), he was forced into an unstable alliance with the series' protagonist Son Goku to help destroy a common enemy called Frieza. It becomes apparent that he was taken from his father, the King, under false pretences before the Saiyan home planet and their entire race was destoyed. He was forced to live as a slave to the tyrant Frieza, becoming an evil and ruthless assassin and all-round purveyor of mass murder - until he set foot on earth. Anyhoo... a lot of things happen (people with knowlege of the anime will know) and he finds himself romantically involved with an earthling called Bulma. He struggles with his emotions for months, at first being incapable of any emotion other than anger, jealousy and hatred - he now has to deal with that little emotion called 'love' (lol). He convinces himself that he sees her as merely a lust object, a distraction and potential weakness (he never admits he cares for her), especially after finding out he got her pregnant. He initially abandons her and their unborn child - he fears his attachment to them will compromise him, and he is simply does not want to be, nor fit to be a father. Cell saga happens... people die... get resurrected (cept for Goku) and Vegeta finds himself struggling to accept his rapidly changing morality and in effect his own identity. He eventually returns and marries Bulma (all taking place in the seven years before the Buu saga), and finally accepts their young son as his heir and raises him. He finally accepts he does care for his family... until the arrival of Babidi in the Buu Saga. Hence this quote... The wizard Babidi has the ability to control the residing evil within a person's heart, and Vegeta's conflicted nature makes him easy prey. He allows the wizard to reawaken the evil in his heart, so that he could free himself of his attachments, holding them at fault for his inability to achieve his destiny of becoming the powerful tyrant he wanted to be in the past. Anyway this quote always sent shivers down my spine, Vegeta's wonderfully flawed character in crisis inadvertedly admitting maybe he does care. It would also make his next action more poignant... the act of sacrifice so that his wife and son may live. I'll save that for another time because all this typing has tired me so xD.

I used to carry a note book with me everywhere, and whenever I heard a quote that intrigued me in some way, I wrote it down. . . So I have tons. xd
"Now let us step out into the night, and pursue that flighty temptress: Adventure." -Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
"The only thing to fear is fear itself." (I have no idea where that came from)
"Play your games and walk away, your integrity don't mean s**t." -Avenged Sevenfold
I'm to lazy to get the notebook, though. So that's all I've got at the moment.

"Music is alive, music is electric. When you're feeling down and you put your favorite song on and it lifts your spirits or it reminds you to be angry about something, I mean it's an empowerment to the soul." -Otep Shamaya And this quote my friends, reminds us of why we are Korn fans. Power to Otep, she clearly understands how we feel about our music and what sets us apart from the idiots who just ride the fads as they come and go.

"I love you too much to even think about distance."
My boyfriend said that. . . We're 260 miles apart, and at the time I was worried what the distance would do to our relationship. Sometimes boys are the cutest. (sorry for the cheesy factor XD)
"You didn't know he had a crush on you? Hell, darlin Hellen Keller could have seen that without her cane."
And that is what another friend said when he found out we were dating. I can read that when ever, where ever, and no matter what mood I'm in it makes me smile. Cause its just so flippin great.

"Your Father was a great man, even though he had a low rank in the army, Will. Don't judge a man by the position they serve. He asked me to help your mother. Unfortunately, I was too late to save her. I took you Redmont where I placed you on the doorstep with that note." From Ranger's Apprentice: The Ruins Of Gorlan
The quote means so much to me each time i read it. it means don't give up on your life, and you'll always judge people fairly.

''...And I'm amazed at how many of them [emos] claim that Gerard Way saved their life. Maybe he used to be a paramedic but I'm pretty sure he's just a douche who writes emo rock songs.'' - Josh Thomas (Australian comedian) I just thought this comment was funny. Back story is that he dressed up as Gerard Way on an Australian comedy gameshow for a halloween special. Aforementioned gameshow is called Talkin' 'bout Your Generation, where 3 teams represent the 3 generations for hilarious fun. Josh represents Gen Y (aka, our generation) and decided to make fun of the emos that have given our generation a bad name by dressing up as Gerard Way. After the show, a bunch of emos started hurling attacks at him (mainly via twitter), calling him a 'p***y' and a 'f**' and even going as far as threatening to kill him. Pretty spunky for a bunch of depressed teenagers eh... Anyway, I guess he sees what we the enlightened of our generation see. Way is nothing but a poseur with NOTHING going for him except for making annoyingly depressing pop-rock. The weird obsession emo teens have with him and MCR is totally unjustified.
