Will Cockroaches Inherit the Earth?

They are a mainstay of urban legendry, evoking shudders of revulsion via oft-told tales of fast-food contamination and bodily infestation. They're virtually impossible to get rid of, giving rise to the myth that they're indestructible. I speak of the lowly cockroach, a species so hardy it is said to be the only one capable of surviving a nuclear holocaust. Could it be true?

There was a study done on this and in fact cockroaches can not survive a nuclear holocaust, but some insects can.

Even then, insects would die out because of a lack of food source

The little dudes keep getting bigger and bigger its scary! I saw one the other day with legs almost as big as pencils!!! gonk I Hate roaches! They are my phobia...so an apocalyptic cockroach ridden future is number one on my fear list...except I wouldn't really be there huh? But its a scary thought and a very likely possibility in my freaked out mind. 3nodding

The most interesting thing about this is that there is no way to prove it. I mean, really. The only way to know for certain is to HAVE a nuclear holocaust. Then, if they survive, either no human will know, or anyone who survives will prove that cockroaches were not the ONLY thing that could survive. Seems like too high a price to pay, if you ask me.

I'm thinking that even cockroaches would suffer from a nuclear fallout extravaganza. I mean what makes people think that they would do so good anway. I do understand being freaked out about something that can be frozen and then thawed and still be alright, but there are other things that can do that. And the fact that they can survive a month without their heads is quite intimidating but have there been any nuclear tests of that level performed on roaches?Sorry I must admit to not knowing as much as I should about the thing I'm scared of. Keep your friends close and your enemies closer...I'd rather beat them with a forty foot pole. Anyway I'm hopeing that they'd die too, after all I wouldn't want creepy-crawlies to inherit the earth.

I say we all arm our nuclear devices and destroy the world so we can find out once and for all!! Who's with me?

Anyone? Anyone?

There is a nice thing called evolution. And there are studies done. They induce the cockroach with a level of radiation even less then the ones they released in Nagasaki and Hiroshima and the cockroaches didn't survive.
