Because I'm going to post the only intelligent post here (prove me wrong).
I believe intelligence refers to something unobtainable by the common man. Intelligence is the result of being informed of the world around you... When I mean informed, I do not mean just simply knowing about it, I mean knowing the what, when, how and why about it.
Intelligence comes through research of something... To fully understand something.
I believe smarts is just general knowing... Knowing enough to survive...Street smarts, basically.
Intelligence goes beyond surviving.

4wingedAngel Between Intelligent and Smart. Anyone wish to give it a try? Elaborating on what that Guild-owner-woman said, basically the difference is sourcing.
Intelligence is what one gathers from performing analysis, research and experimentation, therefore one becomes intelligent through study.
To be smart one has to be knowledgeable in a specific area or field, where ones intelligence is applied and referenced by external parties.
For example: "He has become very intelligent through his study."
"When it comes to arithmetic he is incredibly smart."
Therefore, we can see that intelligence is naught but a loose term for acquired knowledge, whereas being 'smart' is a term used to reference as to a person's intelligence when put into the context of one or several specific and defined fields.
Why so serious?

Intelligence is the ability and the brain capacity to not only understand things but to challenge common thinking. Also, you can be intelligent and a dumbass at the same time, look at Albert Eintein, he was a jackass in college and yet he changed the way we think about the universe.
I think smart is what I am, I am an A average student but I am not smart enough to think of theories and stuff like that. I only have the brain capacity to suck in information but not to challenge society.
Those were some words of wisdom from a 14 year old....... And I just proved you wrong Kyu Kyu.
