It's not everyday that you wake up with two fuzzy tails on your butt and the nose of a dog on your face. Well, considering that Cecil had already woken up from a subway to find himself in an alternate dimension once, you can bet he had some experience in the nasty surprises one can find waking up.

This time, he was attacked by the headrush of the millions of scents from the forest. Cecil rose up and held his nose, his hand soon thrown itself off of it when he realized it was wet, he breathed through his nose again, and another blast of smells invaded his nostrils. Cecil's head felt like it was covered in cotton as he held his head and recovered. His tails were perked up in distress, and it was when the furry limbs rubbed against his back did he notice them. He held his nose and looked behind him.

Two.

Two fox tails.

Well, at least Cecil knew one out of two. He knew they were fox tails. Though he didn't know why exactly he had two of them. He scratched his head, just to notice his ears' new place. They perked at Cecil's realization.

Okay. Waking up with constant headrush, two tails and misplaced ears: Definately worse than waking up in another dimension. He sat on his makeshift bed, careful not to sit on top of his tails.

It was already morning, and leave it to Alex to be up and about already. Maybe it was just the nature of what he was turning into, to be early to rise, but anyways, the pilot turned his attention over to the fox-like thing Cecil was turning into and clicked the edge of his beak.

"Ah, you up already?", he said more as a statement than a question. His taloned hand ran through the feathers that had replaced his hair. "So, feeling better now?" He was curious if Cecil would try to talk, or would mentally 'talk' to him, and tossing a few questions towards the vulpine hybrid seemed a good enough test to see if the mental speech was a fluke. Or maybe it wasn't a good test. But Alex was curious about the results all the same.

"Anyways... you're probably hungry." With that, the pilot walked over to a small campfire and retrieved some fish he'd started cooking. Looks like he'd gone fishing for breakfast, and caught some.

Cecil held his head in pain, his hearing was just as sensitive as his nose, and his brain hadn't caught up in all of the sensual excitement. He turned to Alex, waved him in and continued to stare at the ground as the ringing in his ears faded away. Right. Alright. Okay. Cecil raised his head and put his hands out, moving them in a "Whoa whoa whoa" action.

He tried to manage his new senses by breathing only through his mouth and holding his ears against his head. Cecil looked at Alex and shook his head- Not quite okay.

At the mention of breakfast, Cecil licked his chops. His canines felt a little sharper, but other than that normal.

The fox-kid scrambled around the bed for his bag. After a frantic moment of searching, his hands dipped into the messenger bag and pulled out a notebook. He scribbled quickly in his notebook with a bold marker:

Morning Alex... What happened last night? I remember growing another tail, lot of it's fuzzy but... Where am I? How'd I get here? And I'm really, really hungry right now.

"Ah..." The gryphonic pilot nodded some as he gave Cecil a cooked fish on a stick. Ok, so it wasn't like Alex had made it in a form of a well prepared dish, but his taloned hands weren't much use except for using his talons for scale scraping.

The pilot moved to eat his own fish on a stick, as he read the notebook. Ok, so obviously Cecil didn't remember or couldn't figure out how to talk mentally again. He'd probably figure out how to do that later, but for now, Alex just nodded. "Ah, right... Eat this."

The pilot didn't even chew his meal, since a lack of teeth made that rather difficult an option. After a few bites, he looked back at Cecil. "You changed before we could get anywhere, so, well, I just made a mini-campsite while you were resting. You've been out for a bit. Don't worry about it. You should rest some, and eat."

He paused a second as he finished the last of his fish, tossing the now fishless stick into the fire, before he looked back to Cecil. "Do you remember much from last night?"

Cecil snatched the fish-on-the-stick with one swift hand-paw swipe. He took the fish with his teeth and tore off the piece, chewing on the crisp scales and spitting out the bones. After he was done with breakfast, he wrote in his notebook,

I remember changing.... Everything else is fuzzy. What happened after that? How do I look? You got a mirror?

Cecil rubbed his face. There was even more orange fuzz than before. His fingers seemed thicker as well. He stared at the claws. They didn't even seem remotely human.

"A mirror?" He smirked, or it looked like he was smirking. Having a beak did make the look he gave Cecil hard to read, since beaks weren't exactly the most dynamic for expressions.

"Sorry, but I don't have one on me, or the pockets to carry one even if I did." He shrugged his little winglets and pointed off to the side. "There's a small stream nearby. You could go look there. But uh... you look fuzzy. At least you don't look quite so distorted like myself."

If Alex was trying to cheer Cecil up, it probably wasn't succeeding. The pilot sat there a bit more, tail twitching. "You look like some sort of fox. Never seen one with two tails though. Guess it's better than growing feathers and scales as well. Anyways, let me know when you're ready to leave."

Cecil shrugged. Alex had a point. Looking like that- with the wings and the feathers... Well. Cecil waggled his tails. Yeah. Lucky. His senses were going nuts, but at least the cosmetic changes were alright. Still, he wanted know what he looked like. See how much he had to hide. Another tail waggle. The two furry limbs on his prosterior were going to need some work.

His ears twitched at the word "Fuzzy" It was a pet peeve of Cecil's to hear his written words repeated. It was equivilant to someone reading his words out loud.

I still feel a little sore, but I think I can walk. Cecil wrote, standing up, Let's check out that stream.

Alex nodded some. "Oh, sure. You do that. I'm gunna see about putting out this campfire." The pilot moved to push some wet leaves and dirt atop the smoldering embers that had been the fire. He made sure that the fire wasn't in any chance of starting up, before he moved to follow Cecil to where he'd gone down to the stream.

The pilot scratched at his winglets as he looked down towards the vulpine at the river's edge, waiting for him to say something.

When Cecil looked at his reflection, he raised an eyebrow. He turned to Alex, his face twisted into a "Do not want" expression. Cecil looked down on the stream again.

Well, it really wasn't as bad as Alex's in terms of hidability. He just looked... Odd. For one thing, his hair was a bright orange- a long way from his regular brown, He could still cover his ears with his hat, and his eyes... They weren't his eyes. Include the two tails, and he was some freakish, real life anime character.

At least anime characters with what he had didn't look so... beastly. Or as dirty.

Cecil frowned.

What the hell. He thought. Unknown to him, his thought would be heard by Alex.

Alex watched as Cecil looked at himself in the stream. Frankly, Alex was of the mind that Cecil had it much beter off than he did. Indeed, the fact that the pilot had grown not only a tail but two little winglets was all sorts of awkward. But for now, there was nothing he could do about it, so he just let Cecil return to staring at himself in the water.

It was the mental speech that snapped the pilot's attention once more to Cecil. "Huh?", was all he muttered to himself, only to realize that the voice was spoken into his brain. Alex had become so accustomed to Damian talking that way, that it took a second to realize that Cecil was again speaking that way.

"What do you mean, what the hell, Cecil? You look fine. Ok, you didn't look as fuzzy before, but...." The pilot waved his distorted clawhand dismissively. A small smirk formed at the corner of his beak, realizing that he knows that Cecil's talking mentally, and wondering how long it'll be till he figures that fact out for himself.

Cecil's ear's threw themselves up instantly to what Alex was saying. Repeating what was written was one thing, repeating what was thought... Cecil was kinda freaked out.

Does Alex have mind reading powers or something now? Gerta did say that there were side effects, but I didn't know that- His thoughts were being heard, What if he's in my head right now? What if he's hearing everything I'm thinking? Ack! I better stop thinking. Just be all cool and stuff, like there's nothing infiltrating my mind right now.He looked at Alex with a calm indifference and shrugged, his thoughts were saying otherwise.

Uhh Alex, if you're in my head right now, could you get out? Please? Cecil backed up very slowly, his face was still indifferent but his tails were tense. It was apparent the guy was stressed about something.

Alex grinned just a bit more, enjoying seeing Cecil a bit bothered by his 'mind reading'. Maybe it was just the feline nature that he had picked up, but it did seem to cheer him up.

But alas, Alex shook his head, "I'm not in your head". It was as honest an answer as any, but it didn't help that Cecil hadn't 'spoken' the question to Alex, only mentally projected it. He did chuckle though, his tail twitching behind him as he leaned against a tree, watching Cecil's actions.

"Honest, cross my heart...", he said, holding up his distorted hand-claw, while the other made a cross motion over his heart, although with the talons on that hand might have made it look like he could be prepping for a medical procedure.

"You're mentally projecting your thoughts... or something like that", he said, deciding to reassure Cecil before he ran off thinking that the pilot was some brain eating bird-cat thing. "My friend Damian talks the same way."

Stop doing that! Cecil's ears dropped. He was holding his head protectively, as if he was expecting Alex to suddenly break out his eye lasers.

Cecil was thinking to himself, unknown to him, they weren't broadcasted to Alex. This was insane, Cecil didn't know whether to be ecstatic or panicked. He should be happy, he was blessed with a new way to communicate- at the cost of having every personal thought heard by everyone around him. He wasn't sure if this was a gift or a curse.

What do you think about that? Cecil thought out loud, assuming that Alex heard his thoughts.
PostPosted: Fri Jul 25, 2008 6:02 am

Alex waited for Cecil to say something, and then waited some more, and a bit more. His eartuffs twitched as he leaned against the tree, wondering if Cecil was going to speak again. "Uh, what? You're not talking to me now? Listen, if you're mad at me, that's fine. Not like half the folks here haven't been mad at me at some point..."

The pilot's tail twitched slowly, as he wondered if Cecil had scared himself into not 'broadcasting'. Or maybe he'd learned how to control it. The chances of the latter were pretty slim though. And so he moved from his spot, to Cecil, offering him his taloned claw.

"Come on Cecil, we should at least head out. Hell, maybe Damian can teach you about talking."

Damian... That Wolf-lizard guy-thing? I remember meeting him... Briefly. Cecil remembered running away from that... Whatever he was. Their first meeting was shakey- He was with Evi at the time, and her sass didn't seem to make things go any smoother. So Cecil bailed out of fear.

With Alex apparently on speaking terms with Damian, it seems that Cecil would have a proper meeting with him.

Cecil nodded. Lead the way.
