Even if her apprenticeship was secured, Jiri didn't feel quite confident fighting against a sentient opponent yet. That was why she was repeating the lesson, this time with Korvo. Korvo seemed more apt than Edan, and she knew him better. By that logic, he was a better opponent.

She hoped to receive her lambent crystal in a few days so she could begin constructing her own lightsaber, one that would glow deep purple with a living blade, but for now it was time for a few more rounds with the practice one.
Jiri made her way into the center of the courtyard and looked around. She didn't see Korvo, but she was a bit early and supposed he might have gotten held up.

Oh well, she decided, perching on the edge of the fountain. She could wait for him.

Held up was nice way to put it, since he'd been avoiding a certain other apprentice and his dogged and incredibly determination to turn Korvo's hair an impressive shade of purple, which had him looking over his shoulder and frowning slightly as he finally arrived.
He still needed to secure his own apprenticeship fully, but was working on the process, and his training, in the mean time.
"...Tu didn't come through here did he?" He asked, glancing over at Jiri as he arrived. "I think he's been sniffing fumes or something, he keeps trying to dye my hair..." He asked, embarrassed to be late. "...Sorry. I didn't keep you waiting too long did I?" He asked.
It was his first attempt trying to practice this against another student, which made him a little edgy, and glad they were only practice sabres.

"Tu?" asked Jiri, perplexed. She thought for a moment. "He's the... ah... yellow one, yes?" She shook her head. "Last time I saw him, he had just been assigned kitchen duty. I don't think he'll disturb us."

"I've only been here a few minutes," she continued, motioning with the hilt of the training saber in her hand anxiously. "Still, we ought to start."

She tugged at the blindfold around her neck.

"Edan and I played it first to five hits. That seems to work well, unless you have another idea."

Korvo let out a sigh of relief at this and visibly relaxed, shaking his head slightly. "I don't know what his problem is. He's just weird. He thinks my hair is 'boring', so if you see him coming, you're warned. That sounds like a good plan though, unless you want to go longer. Although hitting anything with a blindfold on isn't easy anyway." He admitted, pulling his own blindfold out of a pocket.
He wondered how it had gone with Edan, but since he wasn't as familiar with the other student, he was putting odds on Jiri having come out with the upper hand. "I'd ask how he ended up on kitchen duty, but I think I can hazard a pretty good guess." He snorted, moving to tie on the blind fold. "Are you ok? You seem kinda... tense."
Well...Jumpy might be a better word for it, she seemed very keyed up, which was making him even tenser in sympathy.
It was a pretty tense exercise, he supposed. Maybe that was all?

"I'm waiting for the supply shipment to come in," admitted Jiri, relaxing a bit. "I've got something coming from home..."

She looked at the hilt in her hands as if that explained something.

"My mother is sending me a Lambent crystal," she said. "They make good lightsaber components. You know that the masters and knights watch this exercise?" she asked, abruptly changing the subject. "Edan and I got picked by one when we finished. As apprentices, I mean."

She fiddled with the controls on the hilt, turning on the beam, shortening it a few inches, and turning it a funny shade of chartreuse.

"Once you're picked, they tell you to build your own lightsaber," she explained. "That's why I'm waiting for the shipment."

She turned the settings back to their default and powered down the saber. "Let's start, then," she said, nodding and putting the blindfold on. "Maybe you'll get a master, too, when we're done."

"Is she? Thats great! You'll have to show me when it comes, ok?" He grinned, cinching the blindfold and retrieving his sabre. he could hear hers, though the conversation made him thoughtful. He hadn't been taken on yet by a master, and he didn't know if that was a bad sign. Maybe he wasn't doing as well as he hoped? Maybe they were waiting to see how he handled it. "I didn't know that they watched, but maybe you're right. I bet you did great." he offered, shifting his grip on his practice sabre.
Build his own light sabre. A real light-sabre. That felt like an massive milestone from where he was now, and even more massive from where he'd been when they started.
"Who are you training under?" He asked, trying to borrow the moment to answer a horde of questions, and to try and feel more at ease, more in tune with what he'd been practicing.

"Kailey Koreco?" said Jiri. It was almost a question. She paced a few steps, keeping her distance from Korvo, and pressed out with the Force. He was a good ways away, his weapon drawn. He glowed brighter than she remembered, but she supposed they all did. They were learning, growing more aware with each passing day.

"I bet they're watching now," she said, the conversation continuing even though she couldn't see him anymore. She could hear him, though, and sense him, so she knew which direction to face.

"Let's start on three," she said.

"One..."

"Two..."

"Isn't she the one who bowled over Tu when we first arrived?" He asked, trying to be sure of his memory, then it was the count and his pulse skipped slightly at the idea that they might, now, be being watched, and that just for a second, he was in resultant doubt of where everything was, then he pressed forward to attack. It was Jiri, so he was confident in her ability to defend, and somehow sitting back and waiting for her seemed like an insult to her, but maybe he was over thinking it.
As attacks went it was as basic as they came, more energetic than artful, but he had developed some raw idea of what he was doing from fighting with the droid.

Jiri sprang forward, quick on her feet, and heard Korvo's saber whiz through the place she had been seconds before. He was behind her, then! She pulsed out with the force and found him, a few feet away, and whirled, the saber pointing from her outstretched arm. She didn't want to hurt him, but all it would do was shock him a bit...

But her attack was undirected and she missed him - she must have misjudged the distance. Well, that was a lesson in itself. She had to be more careful, more calculated. Edan had been an easy opponent. Korvo wouldn't be.

"Let's not go easy on each other," she said, biting her lip. She needed her mind sharp for this. He was still a few feet away. She could hear him acutely when her sense sharpened in response to the pain. Time to press the attack. She lunged forwards.

He heard it come close, humming past, jerking slightly back even as it whirred safely past. She was fast! And better than the droid definitely, but then it was just a droid. She barely gave him enough time to consider this before attacking again, She felt different suddenly, a little sharper, catching him across the upper arm while he was still trying to change his bearings, which made him hiss in pain, but move to try and attack again.
Don't be so careless! He chastised himself, arm stinging with as much surprise and humiliation as anything else.

"One-Oh," said Jiri through clenched teeth. She'd hit him, and it didn't feel good. Fighting was for when someone had insulted your mother or thrown dirt in your hair in the med center line, not for your friends, but at least these wouldn't hurt him forever. They only singed.

She drew back a couple of steps, anticipating an attack. A fair fight was give and take. Where was he? Where was he?

She pressed out with the force. He was still where he had last been.

I'm sorry, Korvo, she thought, teeth clamping down on her lip. Her senses were like a razor's edge. She waited.

"You're really good." He noted, trying to dismiss the sting of the burn and the embarrassment. "Did Edan score on you at all?" Silly question, he should be concentrating, he really didn't want her to think he was completely hopeless, and moved to press a new attack, trying to feint first, then maybe he could actually score a hit himself. If it didn't burn, he would have felt less guilty about the entire thing... but he couldn't think of a way around it, unless all they did was focus on crossing blades.
But if he couldn't learn to block her attacks as is, how would he ever manage a real opponent? Damn, the more you thought about it the more complicated the entire thing became.
It forced things into focus though, the idea of what could happen if they'd been using real blades. That was why they were practicing, wasn't it?

Jiri raised her blade to block, but was a second too slow. Korvo had already gotten through her defenses and his saber hit her bare forearm. She hissed and leapt back.

"One-One," she said. "Edan scored on me, but it took longer."

Give and take give and take. That was fighting, wasn't it? But if you had an advantage, didn't you have to press it to win? Wouldn't the stakes be higher when the weapons were real? The Jeedai in the stories never went easy. The Ganner never let a few warriors slip past.

She pressed the attack again, aiming low, for where she thought his knees were. He'd be covered there, so she could hit him but not hurt him as badly.

He felt a mix of elation and guilt when he felt his blade actually connect, a unique sensation compared to just returning blasts from the droid, not one he was entirely sure he liked.
"Really?" He asked in surprise, jerking in surprise as he felt her make a low swing and trying to block, which came far too close to his taste to not working at all. "See I knew you'd be good at this." He noted, trying to force her blade back. Maybe he could briefly keep her blade in one place, buy himself a little time to think how to go about this better.
Had he really scored a point faster than Edan? Maybe she was just being nice.

((Trying to make this a little close just for suspense? C_C))

Jiri was a bit surprised when her low blow was met with a parry - she'd thought she was being clever. Still, fair was fair and he'd successfully fought her off.

"I wasn't so sure," she admitted, taking a few steps back. She was disoriented now, unsure of where they were in relation to the fountain and how he was positioned. She thought she had a few seconds to regroup her thoughts, so she pulsed out with the force. The fountain was a few steps behind her - if he pressed the attack, she'd be in it, and he was only a few steps away from her.

"I'm not good at it," she added. "It just takes... focus."

With that, she bit her lip and lunged.

((Close is good.))
