Statistics say (I can't remember the numbers and forgot the site) that a serial killer is most likely to go after the people s/he was close to before becoming a killer. So it was only natural for him to kill her, since he was crazy.

the thing with most serial killers is that their loved ones are actually recognizable

it happened all by accident.
mrs. lovett told sweeney that lucy drank poison, so he suspected she had already died.
but then in the end, he killed lucy without knowing it was her.
i guess you don't know your sweeney todd facts.

*sigh* Again, I state: I KNOW WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENED!!!!!
I'm not stupid, okay? I just got really really super bored, was posting on gaia, and got a text from a friend giving the statistics about serial killers murdering loved ones and asked if I'd kill her. The it sort of occurred to me. I thought it was really random and silly and posted it for lack of anything better to do. IT WAS A JOKE, I WAS KIDDING!!!!

He killed her because when he got beaten upside the head in the marketplace by the cops, she stood there like a moron and watched instead of kicking those cops in the balls.
One word.
Revenge.
