I was watching reruns the other day when I noticed there are no blond characters (or at least none that i can think of) and very few red heads. theres also very few light eyed characters (green and blue) i no this is a asian based show is that the reason for this?

Yeah, I think it's 'cause it's Asian based. Suki is the only person close to having red hair, though. xD As for the blue/green eyes thing, the water tribes are the only ones who really have blue eyes. Except for Suki, she has dark blue eyes. sweatdrop

yeah and toph has light eyes but thats more to show she's blind (although real blind ppl can have normal looking eyes)

There arent any blondes, idt any redheads either. also there arent any african americans = Guru Pahtik is the only character that is so obviously based off a real nationality [Indian]
Actually there are tons of green eyed ppl in the show. most of them earthbenders. check out minor characters like generals and random ppl on the streets. also, it may be the lighting/time-of-day in which colors appear darker/more saturated.
If the creators were going for realistic, theyre doing a good job. light hair and eyes are recessive traits. in the real world, there arent too many natural bleach-blondes. ppl in the avatar world dont have access to hair dye, so it makes sense that there arent any blondes or redheads. if you think about it, the nationalities in avatar are based off inuit/native americans, japanese, and other asians, all of which have dark hair and features, mostly.
I've always liked this topic :] lol there is always the possibility that M&B are racist but... aha that would be horrible. i think they created their own realistic world where the ppl have very common features. and based off the nationalities theyre inspired by, it all makes sense

that makes sense suki has reddish brown hair i always kind of thought some of the airbenders might've had blonde hair but that kind of died when aang grew hair.

I couldn't really imagine a blonde in the Avatar world simply due to its Asian influence. I agree that before Aang grew hair I thought Airbenders would be blonde, due to their fair complexions and the dispostion of their element.

well, as we see in the episodes some air nomads have really light brown hair... I'd say there might be some blond guy in there

almost all the people in the water tribe has blue eyes, and almost all the people in the earth kingdom has green eyes.

Considering the fact that this take place in a society based on Asian culture most people wounlt have blonde hair. The only likely people to are maybe the airbenders, but obviously it hard to tell.

But a note on the eyes. There's something I've always noticed.
Earth nation citizens have green or brown eyes.
Water tribes (north and southern) have blue eyes.
Air nomads have gray eyes.
Fire citizens have Amber or Yellow eyes.
Of course this varies a bit, like Suki has dark blue even Kyoshi Island is in the Earth area. But you get the point.

And no one thought the Gaang looked odd when they were in the Fire Nation.
