When [we are] young, what [we do] seems too small to be of any consequence; but the shiver of dust ... expands in time to the planet-sweeping storm... We are - THE REBELLION
The unruly children of a corrupt and unjust government.
With just one protest ...
we started a war.
Now there is nothing left
but ourselves,
and those who want us
exterminated.
Gunfire. That is all that could be heard when the Army attacked. We didn't even know if they're the real army anymore. The whole city was ruined, there was no outside communication, and we were invaded by what looked like military on a daily basis. There was always gunfire, then silence. They'd do a sweep of the whole area. After that, the whirring of the chopper blades filled the air and faded into the distance so that they would disappear as quickly as they'd come. What came before this is no longer of any consequence. All that matters now is that we're alive. Even though the world is falling apart, we're still here.
Let's keep it that way.
Our duty is to protect whatever civilians are left. It was our fault that this happened, now our families and everything we once knew is destroyed. All we have is each other, and until we can get the hell out of here and find out what's really going on, we live together and die together. EXPLANATION:
The city is under quarantine. No one goes in, no one goes out. The last bomb that hit this place left some residual radiation and anyone in the city is supposed to be a health risk to the rest of the world. That's why they do sweeps of this place; to get rid of anyone that might spread radiation poisoning to any 'clean' place. What they didn't count on, was the radiation causing unusual mutations. Instead of dying from poisoning, the humans that were left had begun to develop some odd abilities... Abilities are limited to the natural range of abilities found in the animal kingdom. That's still a lot to choose from if you know your animals...

:CHARACTER PROFILES:Username: Sapphira moonchild Character Name: Kilara Mullis Age: 23 Gender: Female History: Kilara was one of the leaders of the protest about the government's actions, how it used it's money to live in luxury and left the city to go to the dogs even when you could look around and see children homeless... A protest turned into a riot... And that riot turned into an all out war against police, against the government, against the whole country- And more and more people were joining them. When they heard the aeroplane overhead, Kilara and the other protesters knew to go underground to the nearest bomb shelter... But most people weren't so lucky. Kilara's family were all wiped out... Except for her brother, who was sent to military school years ago. Personality: Before the bomb, Kilara kept contact with her brother, taking an interest in his military training and such... Her style now is somewhat militaristic in the way she leads and acts. Kilara used to be open and friendly, a peacekeeper type of person who would do anything for her friends, but she became emotionally hardened beyond repair after the bomb hit; She had an emotional breakdown, and now all she cares about is staying alive. She will protect whoever is left at any cost, but she won't cry for anyone anymore simply because there is no point. The only time she will talk openly about something serious is when she's undergoing surgery. Skills: She can fight quite effectively without weapons, but she knows how to use different kinds of guns. She learnt early that if you can't use a gun, you're already dead. She mostly fights defensively against the military, staying hidden and using long range rifles, but she can easily ambush a group if necessary. Abilities: PRAYING MANTIS Keep perfectly still for prolonged periods of time. Each eye can move independently of the other, as can each part of her body, while the rest of her stays perfectly still. Hears outside the normal human range, can hear the high pitched sound that bats make, for example. Razorlike appendiges run down her forearms from the base of her hand to the elbow. They protrude more when she feels threatened and she can cause quite a bit of damage with them. Font Color: #CC3300Username: Purified Ace Character Name: John Rico Age: 25 Gender: Male History: He was once a soldier...very loyal to the government...then something happened. He was confronted by a girl in the resistance. They didn't fight, he just listened...learning things that disturbed him. When he brought these things up to his commanding officer, he was discharged and thrown out...then the bombs hit...he ended up going to the same bomb shelter Kilara was in. Upon his appolgy, he joined the resistance under Kilara to at least try to help make amends for what he assisted in doing to this place... Personality: A very loyal and defensive person. He cares for him and those he considers his...While he is defensive, he can go on the offensive in a heartbeat if it's needed. Not really much of one to joke, but he can be carefree...every once in awhile. Skills: a rather large man, he isn't lacking in strength. He's proficient in hand to hand and most guns. If he doesn't know how to work it, he'll figure it out quickly. He's also one to be rather creative... Abilities: Bombardier Beetle! Sprays a substance from each wrist that is not only acidic (burning on contact), but also highly flamable. Font Color: OliveUsername: Qianna Character Name: Acantha Strider Age: 21 Gender: Female History: Acantha grew up in the formerly so beautiful city. She lived with her younger sister and two parents in one of the better appartments in the center of town. After finishing an advanced education for military chemistry (making poisons, gunpowder, anti-radiation masks, glow in the dark mateterials, virtually anything that has to do with mixing chemical substances), as well as medicines, she joined the government research group at age 19. Her father was a higher military officer and out of town with his wife, serving as his assistant, when the bomb dropped. Her sister was on holiday with friends, leaving Acantha as the only victim of her family in the city. She was then working on a heat reflecting material, which was the only thing which had saved her life. Virtually... since the redation didn't leave her in tact like a normal human. Since the quarantine she had started disliking the government and military more and more. After previous tests with the bombs used and the spreaded radiation, she knows there are (very expensive) ways of neutralizing the stuff. Yet the government decided that killing people was cheaper. She still has hopes that her father might try stopping the attacks and comes to pick her up, but her hopes are running low, since it had been a while since the bomb. Personality: Acantha is a usually happy, friendly kind of person. She can be extremely naive, or pretends to be just that when she doesn't want to understand certain things. Her personality makes people guess her age lower than she really is, much to her dislike. She naturally likes people and animals, but has a passion for explosions and poisonous chemicals, usually not wanting to use them unless trully necessary. The most contradicting thing about her is that she hates to see people suffer, doing anything in her power to ease their pain, even if she was the cause of it. Either that, or kill them. Her concious does haunt her when she has to do that though. She is a hopeful person, keeping up the spirits and smiling to try to cheer people up, even if she isn't happy herself. When something doesn't go her way though, she can get seriously aggitated. Her being angry usually is accompanied with tears of her own. Tears of anger. Appearance: Acantha has long dark gray hair. In her family it's normal to become gray at a young age. Her eyes are a dark blue colour mixes with gray as well. She relatively pretty, being a tall person she is taller than most. One could describe her as a long, slender woman. She wears a pair of glasses because her eye-sight is very bad. She can hardly see anything without them, everything being a blur of colours when she takes her glasses off. Skills: She knows how to make explosives from any kind of simple material, using keeping a selection of explosive chemicals with her at all times. She also can make medicines, poisons and protective gear for her fellow protestors. She picks new information up quickly as well. She also knows how to fix broken weapons and make new bombs, grenates and other kinds of explosives. Abilities: GERRIDAE / water strider • She can walk on water at extreme speeds (when leaving a body of water, she can maintain the speeds on land). • She can fly short distances. Font Color: #6666FFUsername: ZeineCharacter Name: Zeine DeesonAge: 24Gender: MaleHistory: This young man had always been a lover of sights and had traveled practically all over the world to see whatever he could. He also noticed and memorized every single detail of information that his eyes would grab, even the lines on a human hand. The government, though corrupt, had no real effect on him and he never had thought once about playing against them. But even though he hadn't, they still victimized him. Some random fundraiser had selected him the winner of a paid vacation to a city he wasn't quite familiar with and being a lover of new sights, he hastily agreed to go. Unfortunately for him, the second week of his visit was the day the bomb fell. He was inside his room in the outskirts of the city when he noticed a bright light emitting through his window. When he looked at the opening to see, the incoming blast of wind and debris tore through the glass and tore into his eyes. He had fallen to the floor in agony, unaware that the upper half of his hotel room had slowly disintegrated above him. When he awoke, all that was seen was darkness.Personality: A conserved, quiet man, broken on the wonders that had been stolen from him, cursed by the vision he could no longer have. Although he helps the resistance in any way he can, he hardly appears to be clinging to life.Appearance: Skills: Though he was normally a peaceful being, his travels allowed him a vast amount of knowledge in martial arts, and even slight military training thanks to developing countries.Abilities: Bat -Advanced Echolocation: The combination of his human and bat DNA allow his body to constantly send out sound waves that reflect off of any object and return in milliseconds, allowing him to be aware of his surroundings with a false sense of sight. -Enhanced Hearing: Allows sounds to be heard at the same amplitude between zero to twenty yards, and allows for more sensitive hearing at further distances.Font Color: Green heart Username: -V- is for VIVI Character Name: Khai Morse Age: 25 Gender: Male History: Khai was working privately for the government in the IT section until he got sick of the corruption. He joined the protest instead, the first act he ever did that was against his direct orders. When the first bomb hit, it was only because of two people that he was still alive. Two people that knew the difference between a bomber and a flyer. They rushed a lot of the protest rally into a shelter and as the first bomb hit, whoever was outside literally evaporated... It was traumatic at best, but thankfully, he survived... Actually, because of all that is left, he's not so thankful anymore... Personality: He will protect the people he considers his friends with his life. He finds it very difficult to trust anyone. He is quite antisocial, and he can be quite competitive as well. He is a smartmouth, quick to answer and quick to anger, which brands him as an idiot to people who don't know him... Still, he places high value on loyalty. He will not take instruction from anyone he considers inferior to him, which often creates a bit of conflict, and he will not be put in his place unless he considers the person his superior. Appearance: His hair used to be kept neat and trimmed, but since the bombs he has let it grow long and shaggy, tying it back with a string... He has a short beard that he trims with scissors for lack of a better option. He really looks kind of like a shaggy wild dog. His clothes are more or less black, a leather jacket and a torn button down, long sleeved shirt with jeans and boots. It's a big change from his white-collar IT job, but he can handle it. The picture above with a stubbly beard and longer hair that is slightly dreaded. Skills: Since he completed a 2 year full time traineeship in IT, He is great with computers, not that it really matters in this world at the moment, but hey, it could still come in handy one day... He is fairly strong, humanly strong, as he used to work out with weights every night... His hobbies include camping out frequently, so he's not an entire office-geek. Abilities: :Wolf:
He has a great sense of hearing and smell, which makes him able to track almost anything with his senses. Font Colour: #737CA1 Username: Sapphira moonchild Character Name: Shia Korelli Age: 9 Gender: Female History: I skipped school that day to go exploring the old mining caves just outside of town. It was my birthday!
Both my parents work all day so they'll never have found out! I don't know much about my family. We visit granny once a week and my big sister and I make a mess of her kitchen, making cakes and stuff. Anyway, when I was in the mining caves I felt the ground move and I got really scared. When I came back to the entrance rocks had blocked it. So I kept walking, and crying cos I was so scared. I fell asleep down in the mining caves as well, and then I found some food that someone had stored. I couldn't find my way out so that's where I stayed for a while until I could. When I did though, everything was dusty and broken and everyone was gone. Personality: An intelligent child, optimistic and generally cheerful. She's upset because she can't find her family and her home is destroyed and she hasn't seen many people in the normally busy city. The whole thing is quite a shock and she's not actually sure what's going on.Appearance: Shoulder length blond hair, light skin. Wearing a white singlet top and dark blue cargo pants that she wears for school. Black joggers. Skills: Loves to draw and is very chatty. Likes making people happy. Likes to sing. Abilities: Sparrow Eventually she will be able to fly. However her growth will stop as she will have to stay small. Her development will not stop though, she'll still 'grow up' just won't grow any bigger. She'll also get really really good at finding food basically anywhere. Font Color:Pink.____________________________________________________________ :NPC's:The Military: Only I control the military, including when and where they attack, and communications at and from their home base. :Information: My intro post as Kilara will be from the time of the protest when the first bomb hit. Feel free to respond, adding what happens to your own characters at that time whether you are a part of the protest or separate from it. After that I will fast forward 5 years when all our abilities are developing and we'll take it from there. Just thought I should let everyone know so that we don't get confused when my intro post doesn't match up with the story timeline... [EDIT: Mon 30-06-08] Maybe we will not fast forward quite that much, and watch our abilities grow and develop? Let me know what you think ((OOCly)).

The sky was bright on this day, this morning. The day of the protest. Kilara had helped to organise a protest rally in front of the main government building in the city. It was to be a basic display of our rights as citizens, as human beings... This city has had enough of the underhanded corruption that has been going on, while the big guns lived out their lives in luxury while the economy went down the toilet. Kilara was getting dressed and, as she opened up her top drawer of her dresser, she let her eyes fall upon her twin desert eagles that she hid there under her underwear. For a moment, she wanted to take them with her. She felt compelled to... Not today. She told herself mentally. She then picked up her things, including a letter to her brother that she was to take to the post office, and she left, locking her door behind her...
At the post office, she licked a postage stamp she had just bought and stuck it on the corner of the envelope. Kilara slid the letter into the post box and walked off, a light breeze messing up her curly hair. She tied it back. She kept in close contact with her brother, as much as possible anyway. He was a few years older than her and she hasn't physically seen him since he left for Military school; since he was 15, and she was 12. Thanks to him she knew all about Military school... all about Military training...
Kilara walked up to her rally mates who were waiting to start the protest. - "We've got an ex Govvie with us too! This is gonna be good!" Said one of the boys of the same age as her. She was surprised by the number of people that had joined them to make their voices heard. Government people were sticking their heads out windows wondering what the big crowd was about. Kilara looked at her watch. 09:58 - "All right let's start!" Said the boy who spoke earlier as he began to direct the crowd into shouting slogans and words that the rallyers had pre-determined.
This could easily get out of hand... I didn't think there was going to be so many people... Kilara thought passively before joining in the shouts and chants...

Khai had just quit his white-collar desk job in his own kind of protest. He was sick of the vanity, the ignorance of the people he worked for. Currently, he was the main IT guy in the office, the Senior IT man was on holiday at a luxury resort in Fiji, no doubt thanks to dirty money, at the time and left Khai in charge of fixing their computer system's technical problems. Khai had had enough of the lies they told the world and walked out. The protest rally in the street was just a coincidence, but when he walked out of the office building that morning, a crowd of people were standing there waiting for something. "What's going on here?" He asked. -- Who wants to know! -- came the belligerent reply. "Only me, out of sheer curiosity." Khai defended. -- We're protesting! -- "All right then! Go on ahead." Khai said and after explaining that he'd just quit for that reason, he joined the rebel forces. He had noticed a girl show up, she seemed important, seeing as after she turned up, the protest began... Khai felt some pride and laughed inwardly at the confused faces of his ex-coworkers and bosses poking out the windows... So far, so good.

-- "CLEAN OUR WATER" -- -- "SAVE OUR CHILDREN" -- -- "OWN UP! OWN UP! STOP TELLING US LIES!" -- Two of the boys turned a trash can upside down and Kilara, who was considered the best speaker of the original protest group, stood on it, yelling through a rolled up newspaper. "They want us to stay quiet while children die in the street! They expect us to uphold the law while they make our honest and clean money dirty! They want to keep us caged while they go away on holidays, keep us ignorant while they hide the truth-" ...

Two slender hands grabbed the rim of the curtains, sliding them open to reveal the bright sun and a beautiful blue morning sky. The day was beautiful. Regretfully she'd only be able to enjoy it on her way to work. A soft sigh escaped Acantha's lips. She quickly got herself dressed in the most simple pink, sleeveless shirt imaginable, a simple pleaded dark gray short skirt and a pair of ballerina-type shoes. Finally she put her pair of glasses on her face to make the world around her sharp rather than blurry in her vision. She brushed her dark gray, straight hair and went on her way to the kitchen to make breakfast. Her family wasn't home this week. Her parents, both working for the millitary were on some sort of mission outer town. Her sister was on holiday with a couple of friends. That would leave her alone in the large building which made their house. One couldn't deny that her parents were rich because of their respected jobs for the government...
She had a simple breakfast before leaving the house and getting on her bycicle to ride to her work. The government research group... She was still rather young in comparison to the other researchers, but having finished the millitary accademy and having studied chemistry and medicines, this was the perfect job for her.
The sun was shining brightly, yet the streets were surprisingly crowded.
"A strike?" She wondered as she tried to pass a large group of people. Overhearing words which strongly resembled anti-goverment statements, she let out a soft sigh. Couldn't these people block the roads elsewhere? Since her family was all military, and therefore working for the government, she automatically disliked these protest movements.
"Hey! Please watch out!" She yelled, sounding too polite to be angry as a couple of rally guys crossed the road without paying attention to her.
She sighed softly, avoiding collisions before heading to the research lab in the center of town. She parked her bike and with an entrance pass entered the building. She headed straight down the stairs, feeling how it was getting colder, the lower she got. At least three floors down to the basement where the lab was situated.
"Hey princess!" One of her workmates, an old man, greeted her. "Good morning Bob." Acantha greeted him back as she put on a laboratory-coat and entered through a heavy lead door, entering her id and sliding her pass through an identification-opening.
Once the door opened, she found herself in the laboratory she saw every day. That of the Millitary research group. The group consisted of five people, including her. Three were old man, one was an older woman. All were scientists. That included herself.
"Where's everybody?" She asked the woman who was working on a gelly substance. "Getting coffee." The woman answered, looking in Acantha's direction with a smile on her slightly wrinkled face. "Speaking of which... I'm going to get some myself." She said. "The four of us have been hear since seven. It's time to get a smoke outside." Acantha shrugged. "Whatever. I'll just start working on the heat reflectors." She said, moving over to several plates of metal on which she would be working. Heat reflectors could be made by mixing several chemical substances. The ones she made so far were only for one-time use. Now she was trying to work on one which could be used more often than that. It would be great shielding for fire-fighters...
She had no idea, while she was quietly working on a material to help the government, the protests were roaring outside even more than she had experienced on her way to work. She expected that her four workmates would probably go and watch the activities or something. Old people liked to do that, watching the young and talk quietly about how they were young and what they'd have done... Nothing fancy.
[[It might indeed be interesting to watch the abilities develop, rather than all characters all be fully in control of their new powers. ^_^]]

Khai laughed belligerently at all the confusion and listened to the girl stating their cause. Wow, I never realised it was that bad... "They live their sheltered lives while the rest of us suffer!" He heard the girl yell as if she'd read his mind. Sounds about right... He cheered on with the rest of the crowd... Someone near him threw something at the building. That made him laugh, and as the gooey substance came from the object, he realised what it was and grinned, picking up another egg to peg through the window. The mob started getting fired up, the organised yelling escalating to uncontrollable shouts...
"Please, Stop!" Came the shout from Kilara, but they were all already so loud that they drowned her out. If they got aggressive, the whole group would get arrested... Her fellow organisers gathered off to one side with her... "How did all these people get here?" -- "They just saw us this morning with the signs and wanted to protest too." -- "This is getting out of hand. We're gonna have the cops on us." Sure enough, someone had rung the police the moment things started getting thrown at the building... But no one would comply. after an hour of this, riot teams came to control the large crowd that was getting more aggressive with every attempt at controlling them... -- "You're just as bad as them! You're just as corrupt!" -- someone shouted at the police squads...
What have we done... Kilara looked up in disbelief at something in the sky, moving through the wisps of cumulus cloud. Words she had read in her brother's letters to her echoed in her mind; ~We saw the bomber planes today, they are so awesome, Kila. They're big and heavy and their engines sound really deep and strong, but still really hard to hear from way off... I took a photo, I managed to save the polaroid before my camera was taken off me... Have a look...~ Kilara hadn't taken much notice of the picture of the plane that her brother had sent her, but she was definitely noticing it now...
((Ok, just waiting for Ace to post and then we'll trash this place!))

From out of no where a tall pale man in a trench coat jumps out of the crowd. Reachin in his trenchcoat, he pulls out a pistol. While many may not have noticed from all the commotion, one set of eyes caught it immediately. A rather large tan man bolts from the crowd and heads directly for the man. In a simgle motion he tackles the man and knocks the gun from his hand before rendering the man unconcious. The gun slides over to the feet of...a police officer... The darker man, John Tyler Rico (former marine), stands and casts a look to Kilara...
Things are getting too far out of hand far too fast...it may be a good idea to just get outta there...

"Rico!" Kilara shouted, and pointed up into the sky. at the looming threat. He's ex-marine... He'll know what it is. She didn't know much about him, but she still felt a bit guilty that because of her he got kicked out of what could have become a wonderful career for him... Especially after what he had just done. But it was too late for that now. "Get as many people as you can OUT of here!" Somehow Kilara felt that it was all her fault. She assumed command of the situation seeing as no one else would, and now their lives were in danger. "Anyone who is here that is interested in the resistance and not in the riot, come with me NOW!" She yelled, commandingly, but to no response. "Hello-o?! People!?" Her heartbeat sped up, it was only a moment but it felt like an age. They're not listening... Don't they care that they're all about to die? Her eyes began to well up with tears, she cared so deeply about people. Feeling weakened, she raised her voice to one last plea... "IF YOU WANT TO LIVE, STOP THIS NOW!" Unfortunately, her last statement was interpreted as a threat and the gleam of a pistol was noted in the crowd, only for a split second. Then Kilara felt immense pain in her right leg. She screamed, falling onto the ground. Son of a... As she fell, she looked at where the shot had come from to see a blue uniform and anti-riot gear. Her tears had blurred her vision- he wasn't actually in the crowd, he was attempting to contain them, and he was somewhere along the line in between the mob and the building, close enough to hear her yelling. He didn't even seem to know about the aeroplane that was so high in the sky, black against the wispy white cloud and light blue background, gleaming in the bright near-midday sun... Kilara looked up into the sky. Any minute now, the place was gonna blow, the sparkling buildings soon to be turned to rubble... A bomb shelter... We need a bomb shelter. My house has an underground.. That won't work... Too far anyway... She looked at the people she was with, but they were just getting frightened and backing away- they hadn't noticed her getting shot, they just thought she fell. She looked at Rico, her eyes pleading for someone to save them all. Hoping he might know somewhere that they can go that's safe from this evil...

"Holy Crap, Dude!" The IT professional yelled out, but his voice was drowned out by the hundred people pushing and shoving around him. He pushed as many people as he could out of the way and finally broke free from the crowd. "Holy Crap! Are you Okay?" What do you think... "We gotta get you to a hospital, come on!" "No..." "Whaddya mean no! you've been shot!" He proceeded to try to pick her up. "No s**t, but there's no time for hospitals, you idiot. Need a Bomb Shelter." The guy ignored her comment of calling him an idiot, his eyes widened with shock when he heard her say bomb shelter. "What? They're gonna bomb us?" This one's hopeless. There's no time... Kilara limped over to her fellow Resistance group and got them to follow. -- "Holy crap! What happened to you?" She really didn't feel like responding to stupid questions. All this took place in a matter of a couple minutes, trail of blood following her. "Let's GO!"

Rico casts an eye skyward to see what Kilara spoke of. What?! That's the new prototype bomber! That thing's got enough on board to recreate Hiroshima! Then it happened... --BLAM!-- Rico's eyes widen as it seems to happen in slow motion. Seemingly almost horrified as he watches the flame spout from the barrel, Rico watches the bullet as it enters her right leg. "Kilara!" Rico immediately begins shoving people (cops and rioteers alike) out of the way to get to her. Upon reaching her as she limps away, he grabs her arm and puts it over his shoulders before actually picking her up. ...She's gonna hate me for this... He looks to the crowd and lets his voice fly. "ENOUGH!" It almost seems more like a roar than a yell. "There are bombers on the way! We have got to get out of here!" Rico looks around a moment while the crowd fills with mixed emotions from the simple word "bombers." "I know of a shelter a few blocks down. Everyone follow me!" Rico then jumps out to begin a fairly swift trot towards the shelter...

Watching the man practically carry the woman away, Khai grumbled slightly to himself. He himself was helping her, not that guy. Then the guy had said something about a bomber. Khai moved his head to look around, but only to be pushed forward by a small group of people who broke away from the crowd to follow Rico. They practically stepped on Khai to get past. "Losers." Khai groaned under his breath before turning to walk the other way. If there was going to be a bomb, wouldn't the police know about it and get everyone to safety? What would the resistance group know? The government wouldn't kill them all like that. It was about sleazy, behind-your-back and under-the-table sort of dealings, never in your face. Khai continued to wander around oblivious to the looming 'black cloud' that was about to fall on them all. Never did it occur to him at this time that perhaps the local government that he had worked for didn't even know about this... Until he was sufficiently away from the crowd to be able to hear the whistle of something from above. At first he thought it was just the wind, and then... Holy Crap, dude.
Kilara, along with Rico, ordered everyone inside the shelter. It was a square door on an angle to the ground with stairs inside it that went straight down. It was difficult to get people in quickly, the door was only wide enough for one or maybe two people to pass through at a time. Once inside, it was evident that they would all fit and remain quite safe within, as the shelter itself was 10x10 meters of double-reinforced steel complete with support beams and a steel-trussed roof. It was dark, however, and quite cool in temperature. Kilara, still outside with Rico as they made sure everyone following them got in to safety, looked over her shoulder. Even the birds were silent, dogs far off were howling before, but they were now silent too. She felt a strong wave of sadness as she thought of how those innocent animals would die... "Rico, it's happening." She said as everything became quiet, except of course for the crowd they had left behind that was still acting up... She took one last look outside before moving into the safety of the shelter and waiting for Rico to seal the door.
It seemed it was time for some quick thinking. Khai's adrenalin levels were skyrocketting and he basically piss-bolted for his parents house in town, he wasn't that far off anyway, and his father, being a conspiracy nut, had built a small shelter underneath the house. Khai never took him seriously, but it proved that there was some merit in the old man's stories. Khai pulled out his mobile phone while he ran, calling his parent's house. "Dad! Dad, where's mom!?" -- At the store grocery shopping like always... -- "Get her home... And get into the shelter! Something bad's happening... I'll meet you in there!" Khai hung up and kept running. Just as he opened the steel trapdoor under the house, climbed in and sealed it shut, he felt the earth tremble... "Dad?" He called out, but to no answer... Everything shook around him, but the small 6x6 ft wood-framed, underground shelter stood up to it... He curled up in one corner with his arms around his knees, and stayed there for several hours, filled with feelings of guilt and fear.

Curled up in a corner, Khai stayed staring blindly as the world began to darken. He began to feel cold and that's when he started looking around for a heater of some kind. Didn't his father talk about installing a generator in here? where was it? If it were a computer, he'd be on it in a second, but he didn't even know what a generator looked like... That's when he saw it... A rifle of some kind, mounted on the wall. He didn't recognise any further details about it, except that it was a long range firearm. What's dad doing with this? he wondered. He then looked to the left of it.. And there was another... some other kind of firearm he didn't know the name of. To the right of the first one, was a third, a shotgun... Holy Crap... Filled with curiosity and itching to find out more, Khai began to open drawers and boxes in and around the small bench that his father had built to work on... in a box, hidden underneath some old curtains, was a handgun of some description... and another in a drawer... Khai didn't know anything about them, so could not describe them further... just... Holy Crap...

Acantha had completely emerged herself in work once the older people had left. The heat reflectors she had been working on could only work when an energy-source would first fill it up with energy. It was honestly like some sort of battery. She would not know that her own invention would save her life later on... She turned on the switch of the machine, waiting as the chemicals on the metal plates slowly started to glow because of the amount of energy it received. It would be risky to touch the heat deflectors now... she'd probably be electroshocked alive if she'd try. It had fried an insect once before, the creature having ruined her experiment yesterday...
Once an indicator told her the battery-like shielding had finished fully loading, she turned off the switch of the operator. She walked towards the other side of the room, turning on a timer which would, after about twenty seconds emit a dangerous blast of heat in the metal's direction. The safest place for her would be behind blast doors, but since she obviously didn't have them here and she had faith in her invention (since it had already worked once before) she would sit behind the metal plates to observe the monitors she had placed there. The metal would never be damaged, but the heat deflecting coating on them would... at least if the experiment went wrong. If it all went right, the metal and coating would both appear untouched... And she, she'd be completely safe...
She hurried to sit behind the metal and the monitors. Still at least twelve seconds left for the experiment to be set in motion.
Acanthe, as busy as she was down here, was completely oblivious of the riots and bomber outside...
[[Did the bomb frop already or will it still fall? I didn't quite understand.. XD Sorry for the late reply btw.. XD]]
