Sunlit Abyss
She turned her back to the sunrise and began to walk away from everything and everyone she knew. This girl was lost to the world and ther was no one that could save her...Kira put down her pen and stared at the words that she had just written. A sad laugh escaped her lips, sounding more like a choked sob than an actual laugh. 'My god,' she thought ', This is the story of my life.' Laughter bubbled up through her throat. If anyone were around they would have thought her a derranged lunitic bordering on the line of falling off into an darkly hopeless depression and jumping off into the abyss.
Her laughter gave way to giggles that quickly turned into sobs. It was the same old story, only this time it contained a cast of new characters with the exception of one. One always remained the same fated to make the same mistakes with different people over and over again until the end of time. Kira stared down at the page for a second, tears still running down her face as she faced the hopelessness of it all. A slight rush of anger filled her limbs as she in that one moment not only hated herself, but that of everything that she had ever written. With a crash and a brief scream she cleared the desk of all of it's contents, the shear hopelessness of it all finally taking over as the bulb in the lamp shattered as it hit the floor. All of it leaving her with the cold truth that things always remained the same.
Chapter One
-Sweet Beginnings-
IT started with a kind word and a promise. Things couldn't have been more perfect. They met in the clocal coffee shop in a small and out of the way town.
Kira was a wreck as always, things had once again taken a turn for the worst as she held not only the most recent letter from her editor saying that her work was sub par and that no one was interested in buying her most recent book, but also the eviction notice. And on top of it all, she was cursing herself for making yet another bad decision in her joke of a love life. 'Stupid girls mistaking a smile and a few compilments to be the start of something great,' she thought as she took a sip of her scaldingly hot coffee, wincing at the pain of the liquid burning the flesh of her tongue. Her thoughts wandered in off in the direction of her latest mistake.
This time she truely regretted sleeping with her most recent loser of a boyfriend. She had expected a little more than a note pinned to her bullition board saying,
'This just isn't working. Sorry but it's over. -Skyler.' The regection stung, even more so when he had left her appartment without a word to her. Sighing she took another sip of her coffee, this time being a little more careful as she knew that the liquid was still quite hot. The aroma of the white chocolate mocha soothed her senses.
"Are you okay," a voice asked from across the table. Looking up Kira managed to mutter a 'yeah I'm fine,' before returning the man's smile. He had a kind face, though he had startled her quite a bit. She had purposely chosen to sit in one of the back corners that was dimly lit. Few people actually sat in the back of the shop so she had had it to herself for quite a while. "Do you mind if I join you," the man asked as he gestured to the chair across from her, "You look as though you could use some company." Catching her brief nod, he pulled out the chair and slipped onto it with the grace that one would normally attribute to a dancer. "I haven't seen you in here before," Kira said softly, struggling not to receed back into herself. "I'm just passing through," he replied and drifted off into a slight explanation, leaving Kira's mind to wander. Sure the guy before her put off that 'you can trust me vibe.' Kira didn't trust it, or more of didn't want to trust it. Blind faith in her instincts continued to put her in compromising situations that had attendancy to get her hurt. Hell that was how she had hooked up with Skyler in the first place.
"Are you sure you're okay," The man asked softly, his tone implying that this was the second or third time that he had asked. Kira sighed and shook away the rest of her thoughts before they overwelmed her yet again. "It's just been an overly long week," she sighed into the rim of her cup before taking a sip. He laughed, it was a good sound, a friendly sound and to her frazzled nerves it was overly comforting to hear something so normal. "Tell me about it," he said sarcasticly, implying that she wasn't as alone as she thought she was.
