This the journal of Aela, a Hououza Kodomo. She was adopted from the shop of the same name, on July 2 2005, here, by Apathetic Nonchalance.

That'd be me, by the way. ^^

At the moment, there's nothing here. If I ever wind up taking an absence for a while, i.e. for a trip or anything similar, then that sort of thing goes here. In other words, it's the OOC info that would affect my posting IC.

Aela has become a teenager! If anything, though, she seems even sweeter-tempered than before, and is taking more of an interest in the rest of the world; she's especially curious about the other Hououza, and it's sometimes difficult for her to focus on her studies. She's daydreaming a lot more these days, and occasionally seems a little distracted; still, aside from the occasional tempestuous pouting-fit, she seems to remain an even-tempered young lady.

Past Forms

User Image

When she arrived, Aela was only a feather; granted, it was a beautiful feather, but still fairly inanimate. Apathetic knew she was something special, however, from the cool breezes that stirred around her, as well as the blue ribbon that came draped around her feather-form.

User Image

Aela, as a child, was a little quiet-seeming, but she's really an outgoing, friendly soul; it's just that her voice, it seems, is perpetually quiet, sounding something like the wind through leaves. She smiles often, though, but is a gentle spirit, and her feelings are easily hurt; just as easily, though, an apology will mend them, and she rarely remains upset for long.

Aela

Entrusted to Apathetic as a feather by Sora Icefreeze, Aela is a sweet, somewhat absent-minded young woman who is curious about the world and about others; she does, on occasion, say something without thinking, but she never intends it to hurt anyone's feelings, and a reminder from Proteus is usually enough to set her right. Her affinity with the wind seems to have carried over; the windows in her room are rarely closed, and her azure hair is almost constantly wind-tousled. She's friendly, but sometimes mistaken as shy, because her voice seems unable to rise above a whisper. Despite that, she seems quite happy.

Apathetic

Somewhat difficult to track down, and known for a rather... erratic schedule, Apathetic already had plenty to keep him occupied; somehow, though, he found himself with a Hououza feather, and not long after, he accepted the responsibility of taking on a second, Aela.

Having moved fully into the House by the Pool, Apathetic is now spending most of his time training Aela and Proteus in their respective elements; he's a little concerned about Aela's lack of concentration, as her magic tends to get away from her during the more-and-more frequent instances in which her focus wavers.

This cheerful maneki-neko sits atop the sturdy shelf mounted over Aela's bed, between two small vases each holding a single flower; Aela changes the flowers daily, and the maneki-neko beckons to bring her good luck.

This ornately-bound book has been specially-prepared with a mix of magic and science, ensuring that it will last as long as it needs to; currently, it is being used as a study-book, where Aela copies her magic-lessons.

This stuffed moose-plushie is one of Aela's favorites; though she has many stuffed-animals, most of them have been moved to the shelves in her room. "Moose-kun" is still in it's place of honor, on the pillow next to hers.

This bottle of perfume sits atop her dresser, and - through usage of a minor wind-charm, which Aela recently perfected - continually wafts the fresh scent of a cool breeze throughout the room.

To keep Aela occupied while Proteus has his weapons'-practice, Apathetic taught Aela the flute; she proved to be a quick study at it, perhaps due to the flute being a woodwind-instrument, and he bought her this - a flute carved from enchanted azure - which she carries with her everywhere.

The majority of the following will be done by Aela, who will make entries in italicized blue, like so.

Whenever I, Apathetic, make an entry, it will be in black italics, like so.

And, on occasion, I might make a comment or two on Aela's entries; if that should happen, then the remarks will be made in black italics contained within brackets, [like this].

Entry 001: The First Journal

Well, it's happened again. I always tell myself that I've got quite enough responsibilities as it is, and yet somehow I always wind up ignoring that; this time isn't any different. I was back in town for a brief moment or two, just a few moments, and thought that was hardly enough time to do anything but check in at the Hououza Institute for a quick 'hello'; instead, somehow, I found myself adopting another Hououza feather, this one apparently a female.

I really SHOULD know better by now, but... There was something just instantly appealing about this little one, though she is of course still just a feather. It's not just her coloring, though it's certainly eye-catching and asthetically-pleasing; instead, there seems to be a, dare I say, air of greatness around her? Similar to Proteus', perhaps, but different, special in it's own way; something about the little feather's aura just compelled me to take an interview, although Proteus himself isn't even out of feather-form.

I assumed I wouldn't adopt her, at any rate; there were several others "auditioning" to be her caretaker, so at first I told myself that it was just a lark. As the time dragged on, though, I discovered that I really wanted the right to take care of this little feather; I felt something in the winds of it's fate, telling me that it would have a great destiny, and I wanted to be there for it. Imagine my pleased surprise when I was informed that I'd been selected as her Guardian!

So, I brought her home; she's added to the leather wrist-band that holds Proteus, a blue ribbon tied loosely but firmly 'round this new feather... Apparently, it came with her. She gets nightly moonlight, just like Proteus, and I've decided to name her Aela... After the Greek diety of the Winds, as something tells me there's much of them in her future. Even now, although she's still just a feather, it's as though there's a perpetual cool breeze around her, so Aela it is; I hope she likes the name, whenever she decides to manifest.

Entry 002: Preparations

Well, the house is coming along nicely, for one thing; soon, I hope to have it finish. It would be ideal to have it cleaned up, furnished, and ready to move into sometime during the next two days; having found out that the full moon quickens their growth, and considering that the next full moon is not a week away, I must hurry things along a little. It wouldn't do for Aela and Proteus to arrive, then have nowhere proper to sleep, would it?

Which brings me to my next dilemma, then: Should I furnish their rooms, as well? Proteus, I'd likely have little problems with, but Aela, being female, is outside my realm of experience; the other female adoptions I've taken in grew quickly, in the main house, and decorated their rooms themselves. I've no real idea of what Aela would like, so perhaps I should just furnish both rooms with basic necessities, then let them customize it to their tastes later? Yes, that seems a wise course of action.

In other news, I've secured Aela's feather alongside Proteus', but it proved to be slightly tricky at first; the cool breeze I mentioned the last time, the one that seems to constantly surround Aela, would blow harder at odd moments, as though slightly mischievious, and would loosen the ties. Several times her feather broke free of it's moorings, and I had to catch it before it floated away on it's on breeze. I've solved that problem, by - if you can believe it - addressing it sternly, admonishing her not to do such things until she's older, because it isn't safe; she seems to have listened, somehow, as we haven't had another incident like that yet.

I'm not sure how she'll react to those last rooms, however, which seem to elicit a reaction in Proteus; I expect I'll find out soon, though.

Entry 003: The Setting-Up

The work on the house is going nicely, and the behind-the-scenes efforts are quickly making it livable; some of the rooms further from the main walk-through are even being homey already, which is of course a good thing as the full moon creeps ever closer. I've concentrated on setting up the childrens' rooms first, as they ARE essentially the reason for this building being converted in the first place, and they're nearly done; since I decided to go with the 'spartan-basics' plan, they're rather bare, but I've taken care to make them comfortable nonetheless. Besides, lack-of-decoration now means that they'll have less to remove when they decide to decorate on their own, especially concerning Aela; after talking to Sukiko, Karina, and several of the others, I've decided that allowing her expression in her room room was most important, and refrained from doing it myself.

As to where she'll sleep, I've decided to give her the room to the north, on the second-story; it looks out over the wind-swept cliffs behind the house, and while there's a railing and such (newly-erected and constantly-maintained) to prevent accidents, I believe she'll enjoy the winds that sweep through there almost constantly. The breezes surrounding her feather have only grown stronger, and she seems almost eager to go dancing off with the winds that pass us by; I've had to double-secure her to the strap at my wrist, lest she fly off somewhere and get lost.

Perhaps I worry too much, but it IS a parent's concern, after all; when she grows up, I'll be a little more relenting, but for now, a feather can't fend for itself.

[the following occurred 24/09/05]

* * *

Aela, newly-emerged from her feather, seemed to enjoy the walk back to the house; perhaps it was just the novelty of being able to walk around, but the young Hououza girl seemed bubbling over with enthusiasm, and the return took longer thank it could have otherwise, as Aela insisted on stopping every time she saw something interesting, and Apathetic could only smile and humor her. What might have been a brisk walk became a meandering trail that took the better part of an hour, leaving Apathetic's pockets full of the odds and ends that Aela had picked up along the way; pebbles, leaves, bird-feathers, and anything else that might have caught her fancy.

At last, they came within sight of the house, and Aela paused a moment; Apathetic, a short distance behind, halted as well. "Aela, are you all right?" he asked, slightly concerned; perhaps the walk had been too far for the child?

Aela, however, merely shook her head and smiled, tilting her head back to look at him. "I'm okay," she assured him, waving the five-petaled flower she carried in one hand as emphasis. "Is that where we're going to stay, Papa?" she asked, pointing at the house with her free hand.

"Not quite yet," chuckled Apathetic, as they skirted the pool and entered the building. "It still needs some finishing-up, so we're going to stay in the main house until it's done. I just came back to get a few things," he explained, quickly retriving the backpack lying just inside the door. "All right," he said; "We're done!"

"Where's our new house, then?" asked Aela curiously. "Nearby?"

"Not really," laughed Apathetic, taking her hand. "But we'll get there in no time if we just go outside..." They did so, and he cautioned, "Hold tightly to my hand, Aela."

"'Kay," she said, and when he was sure she was ready, a brief mental command caused the nearby tree-branches to bend in a sudden strong breeze. They vanished from where they had been standing, deposited by the magic before a large, semi-Victorian house, on the grassy green before it.

"Wow!" said Aela, obviously enchanted with the magic way of traveling. "That was fun! Can we do that again?"

"Eventually," smiled Apathetic, leading her up the path to the house, where the lights on the porch signaled that the rest of the family was waiting for them. "You might be able to learn how to do it yourself, Aela, although that won't be for a while. First, you're going to meet the rest of the family. Okay?"

"Okay, Papa," smiled Aela, letting go of Apathetic's hand to half-run, half-skip to the porch-steps.

This is my first entry in this Journal - I mean, the first I'm writing on my own - and I can't think of anything especially neat to say! Eep!

Well, I guess I'll just write down what's happened, and we'll see where it goes from there, right? That's what Papa tells us to do when we get stuck in anything, so...

Well, Proteus emerged from his feather! He's my older brother, because Papa got his feather before mine, but then, I emerged before he did, so maybe that makes ME the older one? Proteus acts more like the older one, though; he's kind of stuffy sometimes, and doesn't talk as much as I do, but he's nice anyway. Maybe he just doesn't like talking much?

Um... We're still living at the Main House, although Papa says we'll be going back to Vicus'ab Lacus soon. The house there isn't all finished, yet, though, so we're staying here until it's done; I don't mind, because we get to stay with all our brothers and sisters that Papa's adopted, and I always have somebody to talk to or play with. Papa says that a few others Hououzas are nearby our other house, but I haven't met any of them yet, even though we go there sometimes for picnics and things.

I have to do studies now, which is kind of boring, but Papa insists. He says that the first thing I have to know, before he'll teach me any REAL magic, is how to concentrate and focus on something, or else I won't be abloe to control my magic anyway; I guess controlling it's a good thing, because I don't want to mess up, but copying down all the magic-lessons is kind of boring, even though the book Papa got me is pretty. Proteus has to do the same thing, but he doesn't seem to mind as much. Also, his book looks different from mine.

I guess just writing stuff worked!

We're back! Yay! X3

Um... Although, I guess I forget to say we were going anywhere, right? ^_^; Um.. Okay, let me try again!

We just got back from a long stay at Somewhere, which I can't spell out because I don't think I can even PRONOUNCE it; it's where Papa comes from, though, and it was neat!

Most of it was neat, anyway; some things around the edges kept changing around, like you'd be standing there and suddenly there wouldn't be any ground except where you were standing, which was kind of scary. Otherwise, though, if you stayed in the house and just around it, it was fun, because you could make the changes yourself! Papa says that's because the place is so close to the Maya, so everything practically made of "dreams" there, anyway. I asked him if that meant HE was made of dreams, too, but he just laughed.

Anyway, we were there because Papa had some kind of work to do there; I think it was family stuff, but I didn't see anyone else there the whole time we were. We didn't even see Papa's parents, although I thought from what he said earlier that they were still around, but maybe they were just somewhere else? Or maybe he just doesn't get along with them.

Anyway, we were there for a while, and Papa let us explore most of the house; it was bigger than it looked from the outside, and lots of neat stuff were there, but I'll talk about it next time; we didn't have to do any work while we were there, but now that we're back we have to catch up. XP

Waaaaaaah~! We've been studying so MUCH!! gonk My hand is starting to hurt from all the writing, too, 'cause Papa says that we have to do all the writing in our spellbooks with quill-pens.

On the other hand, my pens all look like MY feathers, so that's neat. ^_^

Um... I haven't written forever again, but we've been so busy catching up our studies that Papa says it's okay to let our Journals slide a little. I finished early today, though, so I thought I'd write a Journal just to do it, so I remember how to write one. ^^

Well, last time I didn't have a lot of time to write about the House, but now I guess I do, so I'll talk about it. Hm... Well, it was very big, bigger than it looked, like I said, and there were lots and LOTS of doors inside it, but most of them were locked. Dad gave Proteus and me a ring of keys, and all of the keys looked different, and said we could go into any room whose key was on the ring; that was fun by itself, because all the doors looked different, too, and each matched the ring, so you knew which it went with. We made up a game where we each chose a key, and whoever finds the door that matches their key first wins. Proteus won some, but I won more! Yay!

There were more doors than we had keys, though; we couldn't open a lot of them. One of the doors was made of big, heavy wood, like the one to Papa's study, while another was also wood, but I think it was still alive. One was made of mist, except you couldn't walk through it; while Proteus was in the library or something, I tried to get through it, even though I didn't have the key. A lot of wind started coming down and the hall and pushing away some of the mist, and it was almost thin enough to walk through... but Papa came and told me that I shouldn't go into rooms without a key on the ring, because it mightn't be safe.

That's kind of a lot for now, so I'll stop; I want to go play with some of the others before dinner, so I'll write more later! ^^
