A gate to Oblivion.I debated whether this thread should be in the Catacombs, but as we're talking about walking between planes of existence, I thought it should appear here.
In the Elder Scrolls world, Oblivion is a world that is somewhat like Hell, but you can physically exist in there. Gates to Oblivion pop up all over the world, and you're obliged to enter those gates and to shut them down within the main towers in each plane.
Daedra exist in the planes of Oblivion, and they for all intents and purposes, demons. There are various types as well... * Atronachs * Aurorans * Clannfear * Daedra Seducers * Dark Seducers * Daedroth * Dremora * Golden Saints * Hernes * Hungers * Morphoid Daedra * Ogrim * Scamps * Spider Daedra * Vermai * Winged Twilights * Xivilai * Knights of Order
There is some information about them on the Unofficial Elder Scrolls Pages.
The realm of Oblivion doesn't seem to be "Hell" exactly, but more a realm associated with it perhaps? The UESP talks about the realm of Oblivion which is home to the daedra - Tamriel: Oblivion.
Daedric Armour This is Daedric armour which you can wear in the Elder Scrolls games.
 A dremora in daedric armour.
Remember, this thread is not just about the Elder Scrolls games, it's designed to include any and all realms that fit in with the thread's topic. Oblivion is just one of those topics and should be discussed alongside other relevant topics.

Sorry Mel but I can't think of anything to discuss for the moment. That's probably why nobody else has posted either... sweatdrop
Edit: Ok, gotcha! I'm gonna think about this one... sweatdrop

Yeah, I've seen the first one but I don't think I've seen the second.
It's certainly a demonic creature, but I was disappointed that you NEVER find out what it's meant to be, where it came from and why it's there. All they did was throw it into the wilderness when a couple of teenagers are driving out there. It just "appears" as if from nowhere and just kills. It's unnerving, granted, but the storyline was utter cack in my opinion. All they tried to do was get rid of it (understandably), but there should have been more to it than that.

I agree with Mel! Why wasn't there some kind of origins story to the so called creature? It was weird not knowing what sort of demon it was at all! I must say I haven't seen the first one but I did see the second one and they didn't say or showed, anything about it. rolleyes
BTW, I was browsing some kind of CV encyclopedia and found out that an enemy there called Malachi/Ctulhu is actually one of 4 great demons and how it slumbers somewhere.

The name Malachi is from the Bible. I don't think I've read the story yet though. We'll have to look into it.

Ctulhu you say? I belive it/he/she is also refered to as ktulu and there happens to be a song "The call of Ktulu" that shares it's name. Thought that's a bit irrelevent.
Anyway I think the planes of Oblivion are a bit like some conceptions of "the Abyss" seeing as it is possible to physically exist inside of them and creatures similar to what people might call demons inhabit them. Also if I remember correctly the planes of Oblivion are controlled and exist because of the Princes of Oblivion. In addition to that, the gates themselves are held open in some way using stones( by the name of which has slipped my mind). I guess this would suggest that some form of magic is held in the stones or is channled into a gate using the stones.
I wish they woud write some kind of complete elder scrolls history confused ...because I'd like to learn presicely why,and how these Princes of Oblivion control planes of existence.
and on a side note,WHY IS THERE NO ELDER SCROLS FIVE?! gonk

There is no Elder Scrolls V because it hasn't been made yet. Oblivion only came out a couple of years ago, give Bethesda time to do it!
Here - http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3157366
However, that piece was release in February last year, and I've read on a messageboard (no point in posting one of those here) that it's in development but isn't likely to come out any time soon.

The "Jeepers Creepers" comment reminded me of another creature that's similar to that. It's supposed to actually exist though, and has been sighted a lot since. It's called the Jersey Devil, and there was a student film I watched on it years ago that got me interested. I did an expository speech on it too. There are a lot of versions about what it looks like but it boils down to a demonic chicken/llama with bat wings. (My comical rendition of these descriptions) in any case, there seems to be some variation in the story because it's so old, but everything adds up if you check up on it historically. Like the names of the people involved, and the area names changed around a bit, but you can find the grain of truth in the story when you look, and I think that's what creeps me out the most, next to the 200 or so sightings.
