KyoAni has said that they'd rather this be "a NEW haruhi" So even though it'll likely be based off "The Disappearnce of Haruhi Suzumiya" and may even be named that, it is NOT a second season. (though we all know that it will be forever called that.) So, without further ado: The pictures from the July 2008 Newtype magazine! =D   So, what's your opinion on the new look?

overall, I kinda like the new looks. The girls seem to have been made slightly more shapelier, making them look more "normal". Also I love the black uniform they have Haruhi in.
On the note of the second season being canceled in favor of a "new" Haruhi, I have to say, I feel very betrayed for being strung along, despite it pretty much following what we figured season 2 would be (from what we've seen in the quotes.)

It seems basically that they just dont want confusion to the story, though this is all still unconfirmed. Also, am I the only one that thinks Kyon looks a bit cuter? (strange from a guy, I know.) he seems more like Tomoya from clannad.

oooh.... He cute... reminds me of, I haven't seen Clannad so I can't say that... >.>
Anywho, I like the new look.... i think they made it a bit more marketable w/ the look... idk that's imo... especially since it is or will come to America. As for the fact that 2nd season's canncelled.... I can see why... I mean lately it seems to be popular to have different arcs in the series it seems to me....

NOTE: I'm not sure if this is completely true so don't get your hopes up.
D;I hear that the second season is/was going to be called The Vanishment(Disappearance, same thing. :p) of Haruhi Suzumiya. (is vanishment even a word?) Possible SPOILER? Plot In this novel, the story takes place from December 17 until December 24 a month after the cultural festival. On December 17, everything is normal—the SOS Brigade plans to have a nabe party for Christmas. But on December 18, Kyon arrives at school to find everything has changed—Haruhi Suzumiya is missing, and Ryoko Asakura is a normal student. Kyon is the only one who notices anything different. Nagato is an ordinary human, and Mikuru does not recognize him. The only clue is a bookmark left by the alien version of Nagato, which leads Kyon on a quest back in time, where he interacts with the storyline from "Bamboo Leaf Rhapsody", trying to sort out the mystery and return to his own time line. Although Ryoko is not a humanoid interface she is still a psychotic murderer who does not hesitate to stab Kyon to protect Nagato. I got this from a forum on crunchyroll.com Which was also trying to figure out if the second season is real or not. If you ask me, the outlook is quite confusing. @.@;

Basically, to avoid confusion, they're not going to continue "the Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya" since this is the vanishment of haruhi suzumiya. Same stuff, but different artists and style. It'll be completely different story, continuing from book four of the novels.
