About Talathain (Tal)
Orphaned at birth, Tal was raised by wandering nomads in the desert, an upbringing which instilled a love of nature in him and an appreciation of all environments, regardless of how harsh they were. He settled in Khmunu when he was considered old enough to make his own decisions, and offered his services as a healer to the townspeople.
Due to his knowledge of plants, he was also an excellent cook and ran an eatery. He was also often seen feeding the poor, walking through the slums accompanied by baskets of food. However, he never really drew a crowd during these ventures, and only weary travellers who stopped at the town ever ate the food he sold. His strange healing practices made the townspeople uneasy, despite (or because of) the fact that they usually worked, even though they were not "of the temple".
Towards the peak of the sorceress's mischief-making, the temple priests accused him of being one of her underlings, and the few townspeople he had befriended bade him live on the outer regions of town for his own good. Tal, hurt by the false accusations, but knowing that this would have happened eventually, decided to return to his wandering ways. He was already out of town when the curse struck, but he was not spared, for the sorceress was much irked by his curing of her past curses.
Fortunately for Tal, he was spared the worst of the curse (getting turned into a statue); one of his protective amulets shattered, and he turned immediately into a sphinx. He has since lived in the wilderness close to the town, occasionally meeting lions, and always hoping he could somehow cure the statue-ed townspeople.
